Teardown and review of the allocacoc PowerCube. Just put an extension socket into a strange shape and give it a cool name and you have a business :). It can have a remote control, but the remote is being sold separately. It has a plug, 4 sockets and an ON-OFF switch with LED indicator. It can switch up to 16A at 220 / 230 / 240V. Its own power consumption is 0.25W in off state and 0.59W in on state. The remote probably works at 433 or 868 MHz. The PowerCube has a 5V switching power supply with a proper fuse, EMI filter and an 8-pin chip. The RF receiver has an unmarked 16-pin chip, that may be a Synoxo SYN470R. There's also a third chip, S003F3P6 microcontroller. The power is switched using a 16A 250V relay with a 5V coil. Strangely, one of the 4 sockets has German Schuko F style guides, despite it is a French style E socket. Only universal European plug fits into it, not the pure E or F. plug The other 3 sockets are normal French E sockets.

When i see the length of the Antenna it must be 'RF' or 'Bluetooth'. A tear-down would be very interesting to see the power-supply function. - It sounds like a piezeo electric design about the click two times (Push button in and out). - The micro controller could be an ATTiny? - 06:19 - Backside of the print. The right thumb is over the 4 pin wholes J1 named on the top side. GND, 3V3, and the two for RX and TX looks like That could be the programming interface for the ATTiny.

Very practical. I never travel without it, anymore. I found myself in hostels or hotel rooms or even at friends' and families' places too often, where I wasn't able to load all my stuff overnight because there was only one socket. I got the one that doesn't have the remote, though, but one more socket. There's also one with a 2m cord.

It's funny that the power supply safety bonus is defeated by the mains relay leads on the back side of the PCB, and all you're left with is extra complexity.

This thing looks practical for huge AC-adapters ( alias "wall warts" ) Yes, the one socket is unusual & makes no sense and are this French ground Pins in this configuration even more likely to break ?

Please do a remote teardown! I have a pair of them, but the remote is broken and I'd love to find out how I might be able to fix it. I really liked it otherwise. Thank you so much!

A few months ago there were a few remotes for this powercube for 0,7 euros each in a local shop for sale, if I knew you were insterested in it, I would have been able to send a few ones.

What is the fuse it uses? I have the US version that is 4 years old that just stopped working last week. When plugged in my led slowly blinks. The reset switch doesn't seem to work.

Found this video as I was curious to know how the remote works. I would guess it uses the Piezoelectric Effect?
@DiodeGoneWild
@DiodeGoneWild 7 жыл бұрын
Not sure how the remote works. The receiver looks like a standard 433 Mhz or 868 MHz receiver. The transmitter probably contains a standard transmitter at one of these frequencies, and the power is generated by something like piezoelectric generator, but more likely magnet and coil... or, is it solar? I have to get the remote. It's quite tacky to sell those without the remote.

Hi 24CaratSurvival and DiodeGoneWild The PowerRemote is batteryless and works on kinetic energy with a Wi-Fi signal of 2.4GHz. Since the PowerRemote can pair to many PowerCube Remotes and vice versa we sell them in a set and separately (which is excluding the PowerRemote). @DiodeGoneWild I think what you have bought is the PowerCube Single. If you check the packaging it should say if the remote is included or not. Hope that helped.

I recall Techmoan reviewed an inexpensive Chinese wireless batteryless doorbell button that used a piezo - he didn't figure out the power supply circuity though. I've seen schematics of people following up the piezo by an inductor or a transformer.

Did you ever get the remote? I have one at home. I'm quite certain it uses a piezoelectric effect to send an RF pulse, but that's all I managed to find out. It would be interesting to see the RF output on an oscilloscope... 🤔

The reason one of the sockets is different is because they have an adapter to mount the cubes on walls or under desks and it twists under those german plug style indents.

@andricode

Voltmeter in parallel with the circuit, Ampere meter in series with the circuit.The power is V x I. If you wanna test more than 10 amps, you will need a clamp meter or measure the load resistance ( not for motors )

The reason one of the sockets is different is because it's supposed to be support the mounting accessory - it goes in, you screw it and its plate goes underneath these guides.

Hi Против Глобал, Actually we sell them as a set (PowerCube |Remote| and PowerRemote) however the the one that DiodeGoneWild has bought is an extension pack therefore the PowerRemote was not included. The PowerCube |Remote| has a One-to-Many and Many-to-One feature so you can pair the PowerCube |Remote| with different PowerRemotes and vice versa.
