Flinders Ranges: Hidden Secrets - Blinman Pool Alpana Station- Hey adventurers, welcome to the final episode of our journey through the Flinders. In this episode, we're hiking the beautiful 12km round trip to Blinman Pool. Plus, we'll be comparing the Garmin InReachMini 2 and the Zoleo to see which one can get a SOS signal out in Blinman Gorge. Spoiler alert: I also make friends with an echidna!
But that's not all - we're checking out Alpana Station, which is new territory for me, and tackling their toughest tracks, Mt Samuel and Buggery Gorge. And to cap it all off, we're spending an unforgettable night at the secluded Nugarwutina Hut on Alpana station.

Thanks Stefan, we stayed at @AlpanaStation on our last Flinders trip. Got to see the hut and go for a walk from there to see some ancient indigenous rock art. Will definitely be going back to say enjoy Dave and Sally's hospitality.

Hi Stefan - Regarding your test of satellite devices, I'm sure you're aware that having them strapped to the backpack near to your chest may not be the most ideal position. These devices need a clear sky view to connect to satellite(s), and your head or upper body may be of obstruction. This may be the reason you had to wait 10 minutes or so to send the messages, hand-holding them in front of you certainly increases the chances to successfully connect. Else great videos, thanks for that.

thank you I'm glad you enjoyed it, yes you can cut firewood at Moolooloo otherwise we would not have done it. I rescued a few Echidna over time but never had one follow me.

Thanks again Stefan, as always you give a thorough view of the location and it allows people to make decisions about how the could or not tackle the tracks. Your test in the gorge between the two messaging units certainly brings out some interesting challenges if you had had a fall and were looking for help. Your comment about waiting for a satellite to come into range, had you checked what the movements were for each unit and potentially how long you might have to wait? I suppose what I’m asking is whether for one unit vs the other if this is a relevant scenario or not and the time to wait was plausible in a particular situation? Thanks again. 😁👍🏻

that is hard I don't think I could say as they all have their different appeals. Merna Mora has some stunning tracks in front of the Pound so I definitely rate them very high.
