@@razkable I think it's bullshit that you said that a lot of fans love Ace only of his looks. It really makes me angry. Because there are a lot of "handsome" character but when someone tell that Ace is their favorite character everyone think that it's because of his look. But why no one paid attention how good he written? He made his 1 appereance in intresting way when he showed his narcolepsia, how he used that wpman skirt, how badass he was whrn talk to captain Smoker and then his funny face when Luffy pushed him and Smoker in the wall. Then we are learn that he is very strong but not intrested in a position of King of Pirates. And his adorable relationship with Luffy. His badass power. His hat with smiling face and sad very interesting. He more smart and badass than Luffy and despite that he had freckles what is very rare for anime at all. His neckles is also very unique. His fire power and badass voice are incredible. And what more important is his story. It was one of the best and sad story for me. And very funny how in contrast with Luffy he more serious and it was heartwarming to watch how he made his friendship with WB pirates. And how he tried to killed WB is one of the funniest part and how he became a famous and powerful on his own without his father name. How good he was to people. How much he love Luffy and how he always worring about his younger brother. When he wants to die only for WB pirates and Luffy to not come. How he blame himself. How he never run away. And even when he know that BB may be stronger he said " I wouldn't run away. Otherwise, what was the point for me to be born a man." It make me to respect him. And how in the end he said "Why now..Tears just won't stop?!..Why only in that moment I understood that I want live??" It was amazing character development if we remember how it Alabasta he said "I don't wanna live a 1000 lives, if I live through today it will be enough" Even when he was shown in alabaster as cheerful at some point you can especially see his serious looks and posture, which speaks of his poor self-esteem. He is amazing character. His flashback, his power, his plot with prison and how he was searching for BB as a commander, his development, his unique look, his voice, his narcolemsia, his strange feature as he runs away all the time without paying😂, his love for Luffy and others, his kindness and in the same time his coolnes. So it's veey sad when someone tell that it only because "he is handsome". He's character it much much more

Well i think that is true with the first half. But its clear as hell, oda is not shying away from death any more in the 2nd half of the story. Which is fitting because it shows the terror and hardships that the new world brings as opposed to the paradise area of the grandline. Maybe this was oda's intention all along? who know's.

Don't get me wrong. Ace's death was sad and prolly the most shocking moment in OP but to me the scene was more shocking than sad (it was still really sad obviously). Robin's flashback or Chopper's flashback was much more sad to me

I think it's because many think that what ace did was stupid, immature, and unnecessary. So it didnt really hit hard to most fans. That's the thing i like about one piece , they gave the main character a realistic reaction to losing a loved one. Usually in anime the main character would enter a rage mode. but here he enters a state of shock.

Although Ace was reckless (in tune with his character, as many others pointed out), the events that followed weren’t consequences his actions alone. Two important factors played important parts here, and commonly slip through the first viewers mind after Ace’s mistake. First, Akainu’s Devil Fruit is superior to Ace’s . As Akainu just explained (but somehow wasn’t very clear, maybe because of translation issues), in One Piece, magma fruit > fire fruit. Oda himself made it clear in SBS that this is the case. It works in a similar way to the way Luffy’s Devil Fruit interact with Enel’s, it is “super effective”, in good old terms. I think it is clear that Ace didn’t know about that. Don’t get me wrong, Ace is weaker than Akainu, but that wasn’t the only factor in play here. Ace faced Aokiji (that has a power level VERY similar to Akainu’s) in similar manner, but the results were completely different. That being sad, the direct/immediate result of his faceoff with Akainu was simply his defeat and his burned hand. If that was the only problem here, I think (I don’t know anything, ofc), things could’ve still gone “fine” with the escape, seeing how things turned out after that (I won’t dive into that to avoid spoilers). Maybe not, but who knows… That leads me to the second factor/circumstance. Luffy’s stamina was over, and we can all understand that. After so much time fighting, since Impel Down, and with all of Ivankov’s shenanigans, it was over for Luffy’s strength. I don’t think Ace knew exactly how bad the situation with Luffy was, but, granted, he could have been way more cautious. Well, he still sacrificed himself to save Luffy. At this point, it was the least he could do, but he did it, and this deserves to be noted. Everything Luffy did for him, he would have done for Luffy, and he kinda did. In the end, although sad, Ace’s death was good for the story overall. Not only does it provide development for Luffy, but it makes it clear that reckless actions not always go unpunished in this series. I don’t really know if Luffy learned this lesson completely, but that’s a talk for another time. It also shows that sometimes we fight hard and give our best, but, well… sometimes we lose. And that's important to understand here-Ace never had a father figure(Garp was one but he was out most of the time)WB was that father he needed and raised him in his toughest times. He was ready to risk it all which is kinda selfish of him but its understandable. If akainu spoke ill of Dadan then Ace would have definitely also confronted him

Remember before these episodes Garp said that Roger would never run from a fight, because those that he loved were behind him. Ace does the same thing here: Luffy, his crew and all his allies were at his back and he couldn't run because he felt the need to protect them. People say Luffy is like Roger and Ace is different, but Luffy has shown (Saboady for example) that he is okay to swallow his pride and run from a fight if he sees a bad outcome; whereas Ace is just like is father in that he won't give an enemy the chance to attack the people he loves.

Love how much you cared and got emotional. You even picked up on the name Ace mentions as he's dying (which so many reactors miss) Also having watched this scene plenty of times, I just find myself getting more annoyed with Ace. Btw, Akainu didnt use haki (doesnt matter if he did), the thing is that Ace didnt use his DF, otherwise Akainu wouldve reached luffy... he stopped Akainu just with his body...

Ace PISSED ME OFF!! When I first watched this I felt so much anger and sadness for Luffy and everyone because all that sacrifice was for nothing, Luffy went through impel down and the marine corps and basically destroyed his body just to get to ace only for him to get himself killed
