With Naruto pinned down, Jiraiya and Kakashi dead, Shikamaru's leg broken, Tsunade is KO'd, the toads have all their bones broken, Team Guy still on the outskirts of the wreckage that remains, someone has to step in. And Hinata is that someone, the woman who at the start of the series was demeaned for being too timid and weak spirited is now standing off against Pain. It's an impossible fight, but it's the most important fight of this very moment. Even if she cannot win against Pain, even if she cannot hit him, she can still fight to free Naruto from the rods. Naruto though is powerless but to watch as Pain throws her around like a ragdoll, and once he's done, impale her with a rod too. He feels Pain, he knows Pain, Pain consumes him, and in that instance: the Nine Tails takes over Naruto isn't here anymore.

I just can't get over how good the 166 episode is directed and thought out compared to the manga, where this moment was very quick and simplish and didn't leave big impact and evoke strong emotional response, but here in the anime..god damn it's good. The build up, the struggle, appropriate flashbacks, the soundtrack and great animation. The people behind Naruto anime adaptation really good at what they do. They really know how to make a great show and work with what they were given without changing much from the manga, but improving on it. Also the next episode is gonna be something else..

Jiraiya came to a foreign land as a spy and saboteur. He tortured its inhabitants and kidnapped one, sending him to be tortured. Pain protects state secrets, protects himself and the villagers. Why does everyone hate him so much for this? He correctly prioritized and defended his people, his country, in which he invested a lot of money and soul. It deserves respect. Most of those who hate Nagato for this would not really like it if their country was infiltrated in this way. Hinata... Pain just defend himsel from crazy woman (you can see that clearly in the manga). Kakashi chose to call the ninja from Amegakure "bastards", even though it was his country that made them that way. He was just brainwashed by propaganda, that's all, that's why Pain killed the enemy ninja.

Well, it's sort of like someone who's fully equipped with weapons, skills etc goes up against someone who's so weak they cannot stand, yet the weak one still choose to fight. The strong wonder why they'd even bother, there's no point. You know the outcome, so why? Why fight? That's how Pain is viewing this. He's so strong that someone as weak as Hinata have litterary no chance. Compared to average ninja, Hinata is pretty strong and skilled if a bit to timid. Against Pain? She's nothing in comparison in his eyes.

The fight animation is not a problem, quite the opposite it's nicely done. But the art style and facial animations pretty much ruined the fight for me. Just too much unintentional comedy with the overly animated faces. I remember being so excited for the next episode but personally was so let down by how cartoony it looked, especially after what we had already leading up to this point.
