How to run a 4l80e behind a 4.8/5.3.

Really appreciate the info. New to LS stuff just picked up a 2004 GMC Sierra 2wd 4.8 short bed. Doing this swap shortly. Not sure if the long crank is year specific or not but I can cross that bridge once it’s apart I suppose. Thank you again. Great vids keep em up!

i think if the motor had a manual tranny from factory it had a longer crank flange.

Nice video. My 2000 was built in late 99 and it required the spacer on my 4.8, also when I called the GM dealer for the torque specs they said it was 74ft-lbs. they never mentioned a step up torquing method

I think I pulled the torque specs from jegs or summit. I’m sure either way would be fine.

Stepping is not required sometimes. But it's very recommended, especially if you are dealing with selling surfaces or softer alloys. Also it's recommended because it's not a good idea to keep torque values high between any neighboring bolts/fasteners (metal deformation due to higher clamping force in small particular area).

The adapter is already pressed into the flexplate. If you look in the first picture of the Amazon link it is in there. Hope this helps. Second pictures shows the heads of the bolts as well.

Yes you just won’t be able to put a bolt in it.

Great video bro, i have a question how did that torque comverter worked on your swap? Cause i did the same swap on a 2001 gmc sierra 5.3 4x4 and the torque comverter started to make a noise, i pull it out and it was ribbing with the spacer.

Should be able to run the dish flexplate and be good to go.

I did a 4l80 swap on my 5.3 and when I accelerate my truck starts to slip thinking it was my torque so I changed the torque converter to a 3200 rpm but it didn’t fix the issue I also don’t think it’s my transmission it’s a new one

Was the 4l80e originally from a L31 5.7? Or was it from an LS application originally? I have a L31 4l80e originally from a 2000 5.7 van I need to bolt to my 4.8. Any info is appreciated thank you !

Mine is a 96 4l80e. Trans bolted up with no issues to my 5.3 using the flexplate listed in the description.

Yes sir, the only issue you may run into is, if you have a long crank 4.8, then you would not need the spacer.

@@3rdGenC10s hey, so I was fitting my trans n engine together with this flexplate. when I have the trans all the way next to the engine. Torque converter makes contact with the flexplate and it only movies with the flexplate. So I had to back out the trans little bit in order to line up the torque converter bolts at that time I was able to spin the torque converter by itself. Is there something wrong ?

It’s a sending unit for a electronic oil pressure gauge. I used it to verify oil pressure when running the motor before installing the body.

I am also building a Lm7 5.3 with a 4l80e. Ordered the same flex plate as you but I am having too much gap between the flexplate and torque converter. I have a 0.385” gap. I know I need about 1/8 for tc to move. Thinking of using a 1/4” spacer. Do you or anyone else have the same problem?

Yes I currently have same issue with 4.8 to 4L80e I have same gap .385” and know you can’t move TC more than 3/16 ahead, not sure what’s going on as everyone says this is the FP I needed. Thanks.

I never measured gap or was concerned, bolted it up and gave about 3000 miles on my swap so far. No issues

The bolts came with the flexplate kit I bought. If you are going to run a 4l80e you’ll need to purchase the longer bolts for the spacer.

Any year 4l80e should work but you will need to have the ecu tuned for it and change out the trans plugs as well

I’m running a 5.3 with a 4l80e so I had to use a 4l80e flex plate which requires a crank spacer. If you’re running a 4l60e you need to run a 4l60e flexplate.

4l80e flex plate is made with a spacer. 4l60e is dished. He probably had a vibration cause he had a 4l60e flex plate on a 4l80e transmission.

You are correct Previous owner used 4l60 flexplate with 4l80, I just put the correct one on.
