This is inspiring. I wonder if you can create a closed loop, solar option for charging a wheel on a daily basis. The idea is - you keep moving during a no-gas / no-grid event. It would be interesting to find the perfect wheel that would use less power, but give you good range and utility to be maintained by solar. While everyone else is walking, you are riding.

a different sort of fun certainly. personally I like the effort, as well as the looks that people give me when I roll up somewhere in weather that people don't even want to walk in, I remember once being unable to talk because icicles had bridged my lips from my mustache to my beard 🤣 I had to cup my face with my hands to melt the ice. "there's no such thing as a free lunch" it is possible to charge the LiFePo battery from the alternator while you drive as long as the BMS supports it. where do you start running into a bottleneck is that the roof only has so much surface area, and being flat-mounted is the least optimal orientation for a solar panel, in addition to the flexible panel also being less efficient... additionally nobody wants to park their vehicle in the Sun if they can avoid it, and charging from solar panels kind of requires it. I had my bike trailer rigged with a Goal Zero folding solar panel and the power bank, and what I learned is that while you're in motion you just never get enough Sun. any tiny bit of shade anywhere on the panel acts like a resistor for the entire panel. the panel needs to have completely uninterrupted sunlight. it is possible to design a panel that doesn't happen to but unless you build it yourself you'd have to be a government entity to afford one.

Your Plug and play looks way easier than wiring up guff, probably safer. I always aim for cloudy day operation then it's likly to work all the rest of the time easy. A flat lithium battery might not charge once flat, simply jump start it for 1 minute with a lead acid battery or some battery and Bingo it starts charging again. not to shift people away to another KZbinr, but you'll learn so much from DIY Solar With Will Prowse, and I know he would appreciate any quality data you can provide via his forum... like yourself he only does honest reviews, including if somebody sends him a free product to keep he will also buy one on his own in case they send him a hand-picked flaw-free device. however he also does not do paid reviews, instead choosing to monetize himself using affiliate links on items that he has handpicked himself. his forum is a wealth of information

it is quite the rabbit hole... look up→ DIY Solar With Will Prowse. if you like honest reviews then you'll like his content. he even goes to the length of anonymously buying his own review items, just in case they send "special" review units to influencers. for example with a unit like Adam got, Will would actually cut that sucker apart after he's done his performance testing, and once it's open he would check all the connections, test the heat sensors with ice water and the heat gun to make sure that it stops charging at the appropriate extremes. he's also done a lot of testing of really cheap batteries and it turns out that most of them are derated batteries that are already swelling on delivery which is fine as long as the capacity stats given have been adjusted to the derated value. but those batteries are going to have a shorter life, and are going to be heavier for their given maximum rating. and there's a lot of times where the sensor only works for overheat, not cold as claimed... and in fact even though the sensor is there, it's not hooked up to anything, and not even a pad for it to be soldered to. and it's THIS sort of thing that is the reason I recommend him, and he has a huge active community on his forum, sharing information tutorials, and tips

If you run a variable amp wheel charger you might be able to slow charge at a low 1.5 amps.

Usually people charge those stations from 12v car outlets either through solar port or using dc-ac converter to convert from car 12v to 220 ac while the engine is running

Oh yeah, when russia started bombing our electric infrastructure grid hoping to freeze us all to death I and many others learned that the regular electric cattle draw like 1500 to 200 watts of power and overload most DC to AC power inverters.

Off topic question: is it fine to charge a wheel with two chargers at same time but with dif amps? for example a lynx that has two ports, with the original charger at 5amps on one port and another charger at 10amps on the second port?

Why the heck don’t any of there wheel manufacturers add a power outlet to an EUC? It’s literally less than $100 (maximum) additional cost because 95% of an electric battery generator components already exist within every EUC.

Adam, btw, you don’t need another solar panel… one 300W panel is sufficient if you’re using the excess power generated from the alternator to charge your LFP generator while driving. This way your limitations are purely storage capacity… in which case, you could integrate your EUC battery capacity into the system (which would require an experienced solar electrician to protect all devices and convert voltages as appropriate. {for now, charge both your LFP generator and your wheels (mostly while driving) and then you’ll have surplus power for off-grid use. Basically, just charge your wheels while driving and the the electric generator module to manage the power distribution. Good luck

​@@grb1969 I think solar chargers and inverters would cost more than $100 and certainly add more weight to any wheel. Maybe all that is excess could be an offboard accessory and just have like jumper cables you hook up to. But then you have to have specific inverters for each wheel voltage. It doesn't sound like Wrongway is really driving much, 300 watts is pretty lame to fill 2500 wh battery. Driving to setup camp and spending a few days exploring the trails and area sounds amazing fun.

If only i could be charged up at the vehicle charging stations it would be perfect. Where I live, there are No mains outlets, but there are electric vehicle charging stations where we could buy power.

I bought something that I might be able to wire up, (If I can find the design philosophy of the charging station) but it was the wrong gender.
