Power Regulation Disability: Due to psychological trauma and physical injury at a young age, Cyclops is unable to control his optic blasts. In connection, his eyes have become more reliant on the ruby quartz he uses rather than affecting change to the injury. Emma Frost has claimed the psychological trauma of losing his parents and being separated from his brother are primarily responsible for his inability to control his powers. Mister Sinister has also claimed that his eyes have become reliant on the ruby quartz sunglasses and visor, therefore making it hard for Cyclops to control the blasts on his own. After overcoming the trauma, he was able to control his blasts and open his eyes for a period of time. However, he gradually began losing control of the blasts and had to revert back to using the sunglasses and visor. His inability to control his power only worsened when exposure to the Phoenix Force altered them to an even more unstable and powerful state.[240] Due to this, his blasts are now flawed and can be either stronger than before or turn off in the middle of a battle.[304] While wearing his visor, Cyclops has bad peripheral vision.[305] Surplus Energy: Cyclops has mentioned that he needs to fire blasts frequently, because he gathers surplus energy within him if not. He apparently needs an outlet for that energy.[5] *Never was Sunlight charging ever mentioned maybe its-* Former Weaknesses Recharge Intervals: Scott once required time between his optic blasts to recharge.[306] Now due to possession by the Phoenix Force coupled with internal tampering from Nanotech Sentinels the flaw has become more assertive than ever before, his optic blasts erupting powerfully one minute and then falling dead depleted the next, physically exhausting him in the process.[307] As an after-effect of exposure to the crippling energies of the Phoenix Force, his powers seemed to have altered beyond their original state of being. Not only is Cyclops a great X-Men leader, but he’s also a brother to everybody he befriends with because whenever they’re in trouble, he stands up for them. Also, he never backs out from a fight, even if it means putting himself in danger. For those who think he should be in the MCU, I definitely agree because he’s very selfless and dependable when it comes to fighting powerful enemies.

@@rondakidd5274 Thank you, I never understood this until now, it's the only version I've seen where he does this. This actually looks easier and more logical. In X-Men '97, he's touching his visor again - I thought maybe the no touching the visor thing was done due to corny writing, like how Storm can use lightning to apparently transform regular clothes into her X-Men costume. *Edit:* I just saw the scene in the mall with Storm, and I realise now that the electricity burns her clothes off (though it's not very clear as her clothes' remains can't be seen).

I am in the process of making my own cyclops story and his tactical strategic mind is incorporated. For example, Cyclops is fighting Wolverine and keeps his distance when fighting him because Wolverine has no subtlety in his fighting style; just quick ahead charge. Cyclops fires optic blasts on the ground, pretending that they were intended for Wolverine but they aren’t. Why? Cyclops shoots the ground to make Wolverine think that cyclops is missing when in actuality Cyclops is firing the ground to make a dust cloud to not only give himself some cover but to also see where the dust is blowing in the wind so he could know which direction is downwind. Why? Cyclops will move downwind and perform surprise attacks on Wolverine that are unexpected. Why? Wolverine sense of smell can’t detect Cyclops if cyclops’s scent is blowing downwind. Cyclops strategic mind at work.

The quietest he can fire his blasts are optic blasts about the size of twine or short blasts the size of maybe a pebble. He would have a backpack filled with rocks, right? Since he can’t use his powers in stealth, what if he held a rock in his hand and fired a twine shaped optic blast at the rock to shoot that rock into the heads of the enemy in the stealth operation? Using his powers in unique resourceful methods?
