I worked at a sleep lab at my university for a few years. One important tip is sensory deprivation. I recommend ear plugs and/or eye masks. Even the slightest noise and/or light can awake you enough to disrupt your sleep cycle and that will affect your quality of sleep. Also, if you get up in the night to pee or get a drink, try not to turn on lights. The light will halt your melatonin production which will also affect your quality of sleep and may make it more difficult to fall back into a deep sleep. Sweet dreams, everyone!

Please make a follow-up video once you finish your 8 hour experience. Did you feel like you could wake up without an alarm by the end of the week? Do you need to go to bed and wake up at the same hour every day? I personally wake up feeling the best if I have completed a sleep cycle. So normally one cycle is around 90 minutes and I feel great if I sleep 6 or 7.5 or 9 hours, never 8. ❤️❤️

Seriously guys, and Kayln thank you so much for talking about this and please take this with a lot of heart! If you are not getting enough sleep, it doesn't set you up to be a good student, blogger, mother, daughter, Etc. It also doesn't respect your self very much since you feel cruddy about yourself. I relate so so so much to the bit where you talk about how it is almost a badge of honour when people don't sleep, eat crap, are stressed and so on because they are so busy. I feel this is encouraging the really unhealthy belief that you're only adulting right when you're hustling so hard that it is taking a physical and mental toll. The real achievement is to go get everything done and still sleep enough, eat well and decompress. Functioning on four hours of sleep and a coffee to go is nothing that should be romanticised to the point where it becomes something to brag about. just no.

Loving this Kalyn! 🖤 I am really happy it seems like you found your groove back with posting videos. This also has the look and feel I have come to love so much about your channel. Nice background, easygoing talk, you just being yourself and the whole thing looks so pleasing and inspirational. I immediately started burning a candle and after this I will be taking some time to make my space look pretty. As for sleeping, I use a wake up light. You can use bird sounds but I found that the light itself is enough to wake me up in the most gentle way possible. It takes a while though, before you get used to it. As for sleeping, I always thought I needed more sleep than others because I am what they now call a "highly sensitive person". Impressions take a lot of energy and especially new events do that! So I found that sleeping 9 hours or at least between 8 and 9 works best for me. Recently I have found out that according to Ayurveda (traditional Indian medicine but there is also some science behind it, you can find studies about this) your body uses all your energy to digest food for the first 4 or 5 hours of sleep. After that it starts replenishing and nourishing and healing your body and cells. So imagine sleeping for only 6 hours. That means your body won't get enough time to heal and refresh itself. So interesting! There is a link with intermittent fasting as well. When you eat late in the night just before you go to sleep and only sleep for about 5 or 6 hours. It means your body never gets a break from using energy for your digestive system. Definitely worth researching this, and perhaps a topic for a new video :)

A consistent noise during the night can help you fall and stay asleep. You don't want music or tv shows that have changes in pitch, but a consistent sound can also drown out other sounds (like if you live with a noisy roommate).

My sweet spot is about 8-9 hours of sleep, which is why my night time routine includes a hot shower at around 8:30pm, an herbal heating pad to rest on my back or stomach, an actual "pillow moat" surrounding my body and about thirty minutes of ASMR before I drift off at around 10:30pm. Oh- and a fan for some white noise. Plus I keep the apartment at 68 degrees. I wake up feeling like a freakin CHAMPION!! Last summer, after i graduated college, i had about a month before starting my adult job. I used it to experiment & listen to my body to see what healthy habits it needed. With sleep, the biggest thing i found was how it affected my appetite! it was crazy! I would wake up every morning around 6 am, based on when my body naturally woke up, and then ate breakfast. If i got enough sleep, i wouldn't get hungry until around 11:30 am. If i didn't get enough sleep, i would get hungry as early as 9:30 am. My body was fighting for more energy and the only thing it could think of to for an energy boost was food. Our bodies are crazy

I definitely find it's quality rather than quantity for me. If I've slept deeply then 7hrs is enough to consistently feel good. But I've noticed that when I am on holidays if I go to bed at the same time each night then my body naturally wakes up after 8.5hrs sleep. So maybe that's my optimal amount. Also highly recommend ear plugs for people wanting to have a deeper and better quality sleep. It's been a game changer for me!

I needed this video today. I’m having my morning cup of coffee about to head to work after a second night of no sleep. This happens to me throughout the month, sometime lasting up to a week. I have some hormonal issues, so I think it might be linked to that. Nevertheless, I need to be better at prepping my body for rest. In terms of the food tip, I use to do this, but I would up waking up with SEVERE stomach pains each morning. Now, I make sure to have something small at least 60-30 minutes before bed. Outside of the spiritual aspect, sleeping is so important in regards to dreaming because that is how you’re mind creates long-term memories. One night of lost sleep means you could lose out on making memories from that day etc. Then there is the whole job of sleep being the time your body repairs itself. No sleep equals reduced performance quality, as you said, and increases your risk for illnesses.

I have struggled most of my life with sleep, I have insomnia, so it is challenging for me to fall asleep at night. I do use an app called pillow that tracks my sleep, it is very similar to bedtime. I can program a wake-up time, and it will wake me up within 30 minutes before that time if I am in a light sleep. It also plays ocean sounds until I fall asleep. I still struggle with sleep thought. It is a very anxiety-inducing task for me. The times I find I get the best sleep are when I am in the same bed as my fiance since he provides comfort to me. However, he is in the army and at training, so these moments are few and far in between. I am working on my sleep and will always continue since I know how vital it is for my mental health.
