@@bamahabir In my experience it's the most polished charger I own. Have yet to have any PD compatibility issues with it. Doesn't get too hot. Uses a standard power cord that's long. @AlexanderLindoАй бұрын
Great work letting us know which power adapters are great and which ones aren't. Have you ever come across the Anker A2613 PowerPort Atom III GAN 60W USB-C power adapter introduced in 2019? I've been using one consistently for 4+ years now with a MacBook Air, instead of the included 30W power adapter. The MacBook Air can pull up to 47W + an additional 7W taken from Apple's official USB-C multiport adapter. When using the included 30W power adapter with the hub, additional power would be pulled from the notebook's battery when processor or graphics-intensive tasks occur. I've known Anker to make good chargers reinforced by your testing of the Anker GanPrime A2343, Anker Nano II & III Series, etc. There is one product that got me concerned, and that is the Anker A2672 317 100W power adapter. After watching your video with the 317, I became a bit concerned to know that Anker would make such a poorly designed product (I almost bought one). It is currently a top seller on Amazon. I am now curious to know how "clean" the DC output is on my Anker A2313. Anker now appears to be using the 3, 5, and 7 series (3 being budget, 5 being middle class, and 7 being high class). I do not know which tier my A2613 falls into. In the near future, I was planning to upgrade it to the Anker A2679 Nano III 100W power adapter, but I am a bit hesitant as I am seeing quite a few customers claiming that it has a high failure rate due to heat. New Anker power adapters have shown up on Apple's online store, but their prices will probably hold them back; for example, the 30W Anker is the same price as the official Apple 30W power adapter. I don't know about you, but most Apple customers will likely choose the bulkier Apple power adapter over the smaller Anker GAN power adapter given that prices are comparable.
@AllThingsOnePlaceАй бұрын
I don't think I did that one, I did the 45W one, and the more recent slim 65W one, they were both okay. I think I have that in the pile of adapters to test eventually, ha. Yeah, the 317 is not great but what it is, is cheap. That appeals to people. Most other Anker chargers I have looked at have been in the moderate to good DC output range. Some are on the lower voltage side but still function fine. The apple adapter has some other advantages but yeah it's interesting that Anker is essentially releasing similar products through apple. Thanks for the detailed comment!

Yeah, so both Apple adapters are grounded if you use the extension cable. UGREEN has some (zero-ish ohms though), but the high wattage chargers aren't great. Not sure how doable it'd be to obtain them, but a video on the stock chargers sold by Motorola would be highly appreciated by us in Latin America. There's a lot, and i mean A LOT, of them in the market making the rounds. And while the lower wattage ones are probably fine, the 60w and 125w turbopower ones feel like a temptation for charging laptops over phones. I'm personally curious on the ac to dc test on the 125w one. Thanks for all the videos, been going through them and they're great info to learn! ❤

Yeah, I have one or two of them here, I tested the 30W one, it was fine, I think I have the 60W and never tested it. I think I tried getting the 125W but I couldn't get it, I'll have to look again. It will certainly be a while if I can get it, but I will add it to the list at least.

In another comment about ensuring the longevity about our devices you mentioned getting more wattage than you need as the device will last longer and run cooler and said if we need 50w get 100w. Is double the wattage a good rule of thumb? Or just higher wattage in general like 100 watts if I need 65 watts? And does this also apply to power banks?
@AllThingsOnePlace2 ай бұрын
65W out, and 100W available is a good size bump to keep things cooler and longer lasting. For power banks, they can suffer early failure because of overheating electronics too, most of the time that's what breaks not the battery (baring dropping or abuse conditions, charging it when it's frozen or been in the sun, those kill the battery), the Anker 250W power bank is an example, in reality no ones going to push it to 250 watts. Under a normal workload it might see 150 watts continuously, which is still a lot but it can handle that. At 250 it overheats quickly and shuts down.

Yeah, a video covering instrumentation is probably not a bad idea. I've tried covering it in pieces of videos but like here, if I did, it would get skipped, so maybe dedicated pieces may do better (they'll be very low performing videos but help the people who do want to learn a little more). I am mostly pointing to voltage for modes of operation, or power consumption / power being supplied. Units change on the displays also so, it's a lot to pick up on. I've been reading instruments like this for so long I just move quickly through it.

You put the power in power user. I don't know the power needs, but assuming a moderate charge rate is okay, a power strip and 4 Ikea chargers will get you 8 ports and not a lot of money spent, limit being they won't be too high power each. The power factor will be dismal and so it will suffer efficiency losses from that, but cheap and lots of ports. The Anker 240W x2 would be the opposite end of the stick. Lots of ports and lots of power.

All the ports are listed as MAX watts. 400 watt power supply with no fan in a tiny sealed box. I have some of these ultra high wattage temporary chargers here also. Thanks for doing all this testing but I still have questions. I want an adapter that can handle 100W sustained for at least 2 hours and Can do PPS so like a real versatile adapter that can replace a laptop adapter but still charge basically everything at max speed. I want it to be as small as possible what would you recommend? I'm also open to something bigger than the anker 2343 if it is way thermally better but I do want it to be small and I'm unsure how quickly it throttles. You said the new one throttles in 30 mins but the old one you didn't do the same type of thermal testing in the old video from what I saw.
@AllThingsOnePlace2 ай бұрын
Visually added thermal testing later on. It ran for an hour. If you need a 100 watt sustained output though I would upsize the power adapter, so at least 1.5 times preferably 2 times. Kind of like you do for PC power supplies. Total components are 500W you buy a 800W or 1000W power supply. From this video the Anker 240W is probably it. The Satechi 165W is the runner up in the group 5, but out for it's higher idle power usage which is of course more complicated than a single number metric.

The 100 watt is surprisingly small and light for the adapter performance. The extra few watts are sometimes handy though I'd probably step up to the 150W if I needed that much. So, 100 for me.

I travel quite a bit, so I’m thinking carrying one multiport power adapter can be more convenient than carrying and plugging in multiple adapters. There seems to be a weight penalty, which isn’t ideal for travel, but if I only need to find one good outlet(opposed to four or more) that might be a worthwhile tradeoff.
@AllThingsOnePlace2 ай бұрын
Yeah, the Anker 240w is a heavy job, it's a decent power supply though. The 150W 747 (again 'older'), which is just out of frame in having to pick the best of is probably worth looking at. I still use my Satechi 165W, squid of wires, I don't wrap the wires, I shove it in the bag and go, again just out of making the list.

yeah, it's only out for one reason, the high idle power consumption, which if you leave any apple cable plugged in is a moot point anyway, which I do... leave multiple cables plugged in. I should've presented the runners up too. It's the only real down side it had in the review, but I've kind of pushed things in the direction of following the published standards for evaluation and technically, the 165w falls outside of the idle requirement. It has a lot of positives still. Active efficiency is still class leading. The leakage current is borderline, so could cause some user issues for 240V use. It and the Anker 150W are really up there for next in line devices within that category.
