Fun (not really) fact, Mbps is Mega-bits per second, MBps is Mega-Bytes per second - 8 bits is 1 Byte. Your Giga-bit home internet has a theoretical maximum of 125 Mega-Bytes per second download. The main differentiation is the lower case 'b' and upercase 'B' - anywho, thanks for the info!

Happened to use our for the first time this weekend. Went from . 3 down with 1 bar of reception to 2+ down with full bars. It allowed my wife to participate in her zoom calls which then allows us to travel away from home more often. I'm placing ours in a pelican case and only setting up when needed. This will allow us to place it wherever we want ie a tent or screen tent and not have to be tied to the truck! Great review. Keep it up.

Thanks! I love that idea of keeping it remote. It is a bit inconvenient when I'm by the fire and my wife tries to call but keeps getting dropped. Then I have to go back over to the truck and turn the key and call her back.

Do you have a picture of your setup for sharing? Do you store it there and then it expands? I'm thinking on getting one to be setup also in a non permanent way. Besides I have a sedan car, not an suv, but I still like to travel to remote areas once in a while.

IMO: I wasted money on one & it’s just not worth it. That’s way too much money for for not enough results. It’s more useful in urban or suburban situations. It may be helpful in a pinch during an emergency situation in a remote location BUT… not very useful or effective for the weekend camper. It’s like paying big bucks for a sleeping bag that only keeps you 10% warm 💯😐

I still use mine all the time and notice a significant bump even out in the middle of Wyoming. It's not perfect for sure (could do Starlink or something if you really needed full connection regardless of location) but it's helpful (for me). That's one good thing about ordering it from Amazon is that you can test it and return it if it doesn't work in your area. Sorry it didn't work for you!

Interesting...on the flip side, considering most folks pay $50-$100/mo to the cell provider, and $500-1200 for a phone, if you're out there a lot $500 isn't bad at all.

Great video and I really like how you say you can’t boost a signal if there is no signal. So many people think things like this are cell towers. I have a different version of the WeBoost and agree completely with you. It does help, but just a bit... I also agree with the fact that it works best with text messages and phone calls (although sometimes it will help when loading websites). If you have an iPhone and your iMessage is not going through consider temporarily switching off iMessage and sending via SMS which is tacked onto the regular phone carrier.

4:00 the flashing red and green means you have a feedback loop between cell antenna and cell repeater because they are too close together, not much you can do about that in a truck but means the unit is running at half power. If you could move the repeater antenna father away from the cell antenna then the unit would power up with green light only and indicate full power.
@AllThingsOverlanding
@AllThingsOverlanding 2 жыл бұрын
Huh, hadn’t heard that. Do you have a link or any reference to that? Would love to learn more. I’ve had my antenna in multiple spots across my last two trucks and every time I start it up, it flashes like that for a few seconds and then turns solid green. Always assumed that it was just the start up/connection happening. Thanks for the info!
@ariepekar
@ariepekar 2 жыл бұрын
@@AllThingsOverlanding I just installed mine today and nowhere on the documentation does it indicate what the flashing means at bootup, so I called the company and they explained that it means it's running in half power mode because the antennas are too close. So tomorrow I'll be trying to put more distanced between the antennas to try to get it up to full power. The manufacturer said if the unit powers up in green light and stays green without flashing then it's in full power mode but they said you need horizontal and vertical separation from the antennas otherwise they loop back on each other and then it runs in reduced power mode.

I ran the outside antenna all the way to my tail gate on my 3rd Gen 5ft bed Tacoma. That literally almost used up all the wire running to the booster. Well, since you had them on the phone what distance did they recommend. We are talking about vehicles here. if you install it on a car the distance between the two antennae is limited. The internal antenna is almost always centrally located inside the car because that is where you sit with the phone in front of you on the dash. The furthest you could then place the external antenna would then be on the rear trunk lid. I mean what else could you do? Also what about the amplifier? The amplifier produce an electromagnetic field also, does it need to be as far away from the two antennae also? I also wonder about the power drain on your battery or load on the alternator - was there any info on that?

I bought one for my work truck. It does work, but the only way I get a boost in bars is I have to literally place my cell phone on top of the inside antenna. It is BS when he says he can separate the phone 1 foot or so from the inside antenna😅. They need to have a better inside your vehicle antenna
@AllThingsOverlanding
@AllThingsOverlanding 10 ай бұрын
Maybe you should check with Wilson or swap it for a new one. Definitely not BS for me, but maybe you got a lemon. In the video when I did my speed test, I'm sitting in that seating position that I'm in in the video when I did the test. So, I'm probably 3 feet or so from the output antenna. I've also had buddies come up and lean in both windows with all three of us on it at the same time just barely within the cab and it boosted all of their phones too.

I really like mine and use it quite a bit. When I bought mine, I got it off of Amazon because I figured I would take it into my local national forest (where I take the majority of my trips) to determine if it worked in my area or not. It works great, so it was a keeper. But, at least in my experience, if I had any problems or it was disappointing, it's really easy to return through Amazon, haha. It's a big investment so it makes sense to test it to confirm before committing. Good luck!

Little tip... Don't say you would love to sell you something... Just say "I would love to help you with what you need" if you say I want to sell you something sounds like you just want my money. But instead you want to be able to help them with what they are looking for.

I had to go back and watch through the video because I couldn't think of where I said that, haha. Regarding the WeBoost, I definitely just talk about what applications it makes sense for. I found where you were talking about and it's my patches, :D. I don't know that anyone "needs" my patches, but if anyone likes the channel and wants a patch, I'd be happy to sell them one, haha. That's a great point though and I definitely would never try to "sell" anyone anything that I'm reviewing because I'm just trying to pass on information so people can make their own decisions. Keeping me honest! I love it! Have a good rest of your week!

Its mega BITS per second (mbps), not mega BYTES (mBps), in the context you are referring to. "Bits" measure speed, "Bytes" measure size.

A bit is just a single binary data point. A byte is 8 bits, which is what binary uses to define a character. Both can be used to measure size and download speed, although we typically stick to megabits for speed!

@@RevereOverland All of this is great to know guys, but FYI, I’m not trying to be the foremost expert on internet speed terminology and semantics. Just trying to show that with the Weboost you get more data transfer and without you get less, 😂. But thank you all for the info!

Starlink is pretty fascinating. But for the RV version it’s $600 for the hardware pulse $135/month for the service with spotty reception at this time. The weboost is $500 once with no additional fees so I’m good for now. www.starlinkhardware.com/starlink-prices/

For someone who drives with children who like to watch Netflix 😂 would this be a good invest for long trips ?
@AllThingsOverlanding
@AllThingsOverlanding 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Jadi, it could be. If you drive through a lot of areas where reception gets very spotty and drops a lot then it may be a good investment. Honestly though, if you have the space on your device I generally try to pre-download shows from Netflix so that I don’t have to worry about having a good enough signal to watch them. Could save you a few bucks! I like having connectivity mainly for being able to reach the family in an emergency if there’s spotty reception.

Super helpful and constructive feedback. I tested it when I couldn't even get texts to load and then turned on the WeBoost, which is the actual use case for this product. It's not a magical device powered by mana, it's a piece of technology that takes weak signal and boosts it. With over 9K views, over 180 thumbs up, and more than 55 comments, almost all of which say it was helpful, I think I'll leave it up. You can go spend $500 and buy your own and go out and test it however you want though! Thanks for the comment and for watching!

@@AllThingsOverlanding I know what it does but if your gonna test it ,use variance in cell tower distance (Reception) ...to get a better Outlook on how it performs ...and I wish you mentioned who was your cell provider because if your on anything less than Verizon in America you at a disadvantage out the gate...I'm not trying to bash you anymore I'm just a tech guy myself.

@@john__blick1962 I get it. I am on Verizon. I tested it in a location (national forest in my state that I frequent) in a spot where I usually have sketchy reception to see how it would improve. That's my use case so that's how I tested it. Not mad, but "delete this garbage" is a little harsh if we're being honest for something that's an honest test for a product I bought with my own money and used in a place where I had sketchy reception repeatedly. Again, no skin off my back. You're welcome to do all the tests you want on your own channel. I just hope it's helpful for some.
