Thanks for the all-22 film break down. What’s apparent is people saying “the OLine protected Bagent, if only it’d do the same for Fields…” have absolute missed the fact that Bagent had helped the pass protection more than it had helped him. I actually saw the pocket collapsing early and often live and Darnell Wright in particular played like a dog getting bulldozed and getting run around. Sure enough he was the lowest graded player on offense per PFF, and the only reason why he didn’t give up multiple sacks was because Bagent got the ball out under 2 sec. I’m hoping Wright was simply playing with bad legs because my goodness he was stiff and terrible. Borom was also bad and that’s no surprise. As the game progressed Raiders blitzed less and less as they dropped their LBs in coverage because their blitzes couldn’t get to Bagent, and that obviously helped the OLine. I don’t want to bash Fields but I just know he would’ve taken at least 3 more sacks had he played and possibly more when Raiders continue to blitz because why not? That’s what the Vikings did until he was knocked out. Bottom line is a QB absolutely can offset OLine deficiency by playing uptempo and keep defenses on the field and gassed. It’s unfair to give undeserving credit to pass protection when Bagent got the ball out quick and didn’t take sacks, just like it’s unfair to levy blame on the same pass protection when Fields held the ball too long and took sacks.

wright played with one arm so credit to him and people gotta stop putting ceilings on someone after one game. You don't need josh Allens arm for 300 yards by the way Bagent has average nfl deep ball strength but id say he has plus strength with reduced windup compared to his peers as he naturally has a shorter throwing motion from shorter arms so he's at a disadvantage with Hail Mary esque throws as the amount of work (energy transfer) is directly proportional to the distance the force operated on, all else being equal. So, 10% longer arms could in theory lead to ten percent more maximum energy transfer to the ball, which conveniently also means ten percent further throw. So 30 inch arms vs 33 inch arms could be difference between 60 and 66. however there's also alot of other variables like muscle insertions fiber type and height (bigger step and more torso range) hand size also helps you spin and roll it more spin more stable and less air drag

Bagent is foreal, his accuracy and quick release are insane. He is going to be a very consistent QB because its going to be very hard to stop his small ball game. You’d love any rookie QB, making his first start, to have a game like that. Clean, efficient, and with the drops, should have been 200 yards and 2 tuddys. No turnovers. Too much is being made about Bagent’s arm strength, especially after that case of the yips on the ball to DJ. This kid can sling it - go watch his Shepard tape. Is he Jeff George? No, but he can really make all the throws. His deep outs aren’t gonna have the same zip, but he can get them there. Overall, excellent showing by the kid. He’s got a bright future.

@@Philtration If the Bears had any NFL mid-teir QB, we would have been a contender last year before they dismantled the defense... I know we would have been in playoffs with Mitch.. the guy was 29-13, 2 of 4 years in playoffs. All the negative talk about Trubisky can be discounted by looking at all his numbers and next Gen stats.. Fields was considered Great and only had opinions to back it up, Trubisky was bad because of opinions. The one thing that mattered, in the 5 year span with the Beard, Mitch had the 2nd best winn/loss record in the NFL and we could count on him is last drive games. 87% score rate in 2 min drill.. Justing was 0-9 Mitch had 9 come from behind and 7 game winning drives.

@@rcr-zt4of None of Mitch's 6 Franchise records has a single thing to do with defense. He was 8-2 in 2020 and his 2 losses happened with the defense allowing 35+ point a game. What did the defense have to do with 75% comp rate and 94 QBR in 2020. What did the defense have to do with him becoming the fastest QB to pass for 10K yards in 2018 ? What did the defense do to make him #1 3rd down conversions throwing in 2018. What did defense do to make him only QB in NFL history to never throw a pick 6 ? What weapons on offense did he have. Well, in 2020 Nick Foles came in with the same team and lost every game he started.. and Mitch went 8-2 and went to playoffs. Defense had nothing to do with his 6 Td, 350yds passing and 50 yds rushing ? 6 Franchise records, 3 NFL records, 1st probowl since Jim M. had nothing to do with defense. What did the defense have to do with his 87% score rate in the 2 min drill. What does defense have to do most passing yards in a playoff ? You are listening to the talking heads. @@robertwadas You are missing context with Mitch’s numbers. First of all Mitch was a Pro Bowl alternate. He’s putting up all these numbers from that make him look like the second coming and he’s still not the starter with the Steelers? As far as 2018 goes this was the first year of the Nagy offense before everyone figured out his scheme that never changed and then started getting more film on Trubisky himself. He didn’t have the field vision, stumbled under pressure and didn’t have the composure to deal with a collapsing pockets. To say he’s the first Pro Bowl QB since McMahon is like saying you are the second winner at the ass kicking contest. The Bears QB history has been atrocious. So mark my words with this, Trubisky will be nothing more than a backup qb the rest of his career and most likely a journeyman going from team to team. If he was as great as you say he would be succeeding in Pittsburgh but I’m sure you will be an apologist on that end as well.

Based on a sample size of one game his footwork, release, arm strength and approach to the game remind me of Alex Smith. That could all change after his next start but sample size of 1 his footwork, release, decisions, read progression and leadership and poise are way beyond what one would expect to see from game 1 of one of the best ever DII QBs now an undrafted rookie in the NFL. The kid has been a winner all his life. Winning in the NFL is his dream and as unlikely as it is he is now an NFL winning QB. When you encounter life long winners like this that work hard and are the best at every level they ever play you play them until the reps and opportunities prove they are or are not the truth. Is Bagent going to be a suuccessful NFL QB? Highly unlikely but nobody knows for sure until he is given the starts and its decided on the field. Bagent has been a winner his entire life and you can't measure heart and innate leadership skills and charisma. Let the kid play a few games and see what happens. However it works out he won an NFL game as a two time All American DII QB so good for Tyson!

Everyone knows the Vikings blitz more than any team in the league and the Bears had 10 days to figure out how to cope with it. Unfortunately due to Fields injury we don't know how he would have faired against the Raiders aided by a stellar game running the ball. BAGENT looked great in GAME 1!! Hell of a game for an undrafted Rookie!! I want to see more! We have all the tape we need on Fields. He MIGHT get to his second read before he takes off. He's antsy in the pocket and misses wide open receivers when he could simply make a simple maneuver, stay in the pocket and make a throw! Fields doesn't make throws with anticipation, but waits until the receivers get open. He's not the answer. TRADE FIELDS

So are you riding with Bagent after 1 game against the Raiders??? Or do you want the Bears to draft a QB #1 overall after trading Fields?? Fields is under contract - You can conceivably keep him and make him the back-up, riding Bagent until the wheels fall off - Trade #1 overall pick similar to what they did this year and add additional talent and future draft capital. In theory the Bears could end up with another top 5 pick in 2025 depending on who they trade with allowing them to draft a QB if needed.

Bagent may not be the answer if he has no deep ball accuracy. Maybe he does, maybe he doesn’t, I haven’t seen it so I don’t know. What I do know is without vertical threat teams will simply drop LBs back in coverage and pull up safeties to crowd the field and take away the underneath stuff. To be successful in this league a QB has to be able to play both ways; get the ball out quickly when he’s getting blitzed and take shots downfield when LBs drop back and safeties pull up. Fields can take shots downfield but hasn’t shown he’s able to dink and dunk instead of taking sacks while Bagent seems like the polar opposite of him. If only we can mash the two of them together…

Well the news media does it again. They are trying to create a QB controversy between Bagent and Fields. The unwritten rule is when the starter is injured and then returns, he is once again the starter. In most case that may not happen if the Backup is leading a team to a win streak.....then there is an issue. What has occurred is a lot of conjecture to promote a contrived controversy to get eyes on the Sport Talk shows. This in turn allows a fan base to make comments which creates a vehicle for a form of entertainment. Everyone has their favorite show and receive enjoyment from listening to what the talking heads have to say. Even though in most cases it is predictable. One Monday listen to four or five shows and see the content is quite repetitive. It just sounds different since some sports commentators are more charismatic than others. The guys on the Tape are very entertaining as is the After the Show - Show as well as Kaps new show. Some others are good but lack personalities. However, some people like the straight scoop without the excitement

BUT it is also true that Bagent really helped them out. I've watched the game 3 times now, and there were a good handful of times where Bagent avoided pressures and even sacks by being very aware & getting rid of it quickly (ususally to someone who might even make a play). He made that line better, and like Tim Jenkins said over & over "it cannot be overstated how important that quick release is".

This is false. At the combine he had the 2nd fasted mph on the ball of all the QBs. And Bear receivers have remarked that "the kid can really spin it" (if you know what that means).
