Sometimes some of the most concentrated Gold in a creek is the easiest Gold to get to, and is almost in plain site... You've just got to know where to look, as well as recognise the indicators and general conditions that Gold tends to be associated with. In this video I demonstrate how I sample and find such a spot.

You mate are a legend. I also do some metal detecting but for whatever reason I love to muck around panning and river sluicing. I am very new at this and havnt got anything other than flakes.. until I watched this the other night and tried a pump out and worked a small hole behind a large buried stone in the bank. I took 4 very small nuggets that I could pick up with fingers and a bunch of smaller pieces. Cant wait to get back there when the water drops and try your methods on the bedrock. Thanks again for the great video.

Great vid as alway's, i really enjoy your style, very easy going and informative, when i head back east i plan to revisit some area's in the mountains and give crevicing a go, last time i went it was in the middle of summer, a guy warned me to keep an eye out for eastern browns, so i approached the creek banging my shovel on the ground/rocks because i am not a big fan of snakes, i looked up the creek and saw some exposed bedrock, went back out and headed upstream and approached the creek again, leaned out and looked upstream, turned and looked down into the middle of the rocky creek and i saw something that resembled a snake, submerged other than it's head and parts of it's body laying on exposed rocks, i quickly assessed what i was looking at, yep that's a snake, a 6ft brown and he was looking straight at me, well i figured i had 1 metre head start on him and i high tailed it out of there and that was the end of my time looking for gold in creeks lol

+BanjoAU That's a great yarn. Do you reckon he was on to you? Maybe he was protecting a good spot. I went down to the Sarah River at Kookabrooka, NSW 3 days ago with your story fresh in my mind. I was in the river panning and then went up to get something from my car, and sure enough, when I returned, there was a big "BROWN" right where I was panning. Scared crap out of me. For the rest of the day every where I walked, I took a long handled shovel..just in case. Regards Aussie.

+Aussie Bloke Prospector hahaha, how uncanny is that lol Sorry if i put the mockers on you. Was he onto me ? I wasn't sticking around to find out, i covered 100m that would of given Ben Johnson a fright, i was on my own and 45 minutes from a town so i wasn't about to try the stand still theory. I just couldn't believe my luck, i drove 2 hours and after i gathered my thoughts and ate what was to be my lunch i drove the 2 hours home. Before my workmate warned me they love water i was even thinking of taking some goggles and try sniping, it's funny how things work out, the fact that all i had on my mind was looking out for them and bang i walked straight up on one.

Excellent information there bloke, it's exactly what I needed to know, cheers... A mate is going to visit me down in South Australia about December, I've got a fosicking map of a few creeks known to have gold close by (I live at the foot of the Adelaide hills)... I tried my hand with panning at Sovereign Hill Victoria, although the creek was man made and they lace it with gold for tourists, I still managed to get about 2 grams in about an hour of panning and gold fever struck hahaha... My mate and I plan on setting up our swags and camp for a few days doing nothing but prospecting, we're thinking of making a sluice to take with us, but I've read to start off small and master the pan before going too bloody mad with other equipment... Cheers again mate

Glad to help out mate. Yep, get the hang of the pan, but if you want to sluice, start with a small Keen river Sluice. The little one...it will get you used to it before you get into the big ones. Good luck, and keep me posted with your success mate.

Thanks for this great video! You're a great inspiration! BTW, sometime last century, I was a pilot in New Guinea and sometimes people in the West Sepik area would come to the mountain airstrips I used to fly to and they'd show me their little glass phials with granite and gold, to pay for their airfare. I'd take a very rough guess at how much gold was in a phial and pay for their tickets out of my pocket. I then mailed the gold dust back to rellies and friends in 'Straya as gifts or souvenirs.(Yes, that was a pretty stupid way of doing things.)

Saw an old timer doing similar with a windex bottle and pvc tube that went all the way through top to near the bottom of bottle in upright position. It was in effect a one way valve for gold and heavy particles, but the water was pushed in both directions, in then out. Heavy bits fell to what was the bottle top area, except they were at bottom when sucking etc. Keep doing it till it's full for a pan, then unscrew lid and empty into pan. Every crevice he did had some flecks and some small nuggets. The pvc was about 5/16", through screw lid, just a simple and easy to make tool for small crevices, in this case, the Yarra river near Warrandyte.. also found small gemstones in that same place and method. He showed us his vials of finds, and said it paid for his grog for the year..

WOW!! I will be going to Australia hopefully in 2017 my Relatives moved from Ireland to live there in 1976 After Bloody Sunday my Uncle did not want his family to grow up there anymore & because of the never ending Troubles there. They have invited me to visit them in Australia on many occasions & if I had have had GOLD FEVER BACK THEN I would have been there too!! but never too late Right? great Video!!

aside from the paintbrush- a good stiff plastic bristle hairbrush works great for that too. picks a little deeper into the cracks & scrubs out clay or flakey rock

How'd it go? A friend of mine and I are going to do some panning next year in Michigan. More or less doing it for fun, we can only get like a half ounce of gold a year here from state land.
