Maguire's criticism came at the end of Ole's time. He was playing alongside Lindelof (mainly) or Bailly in a back 2. He looked slow. His turning circle was the size of a bus. He was all over the place. However, he was also given the captaincy early on in his United career, and I think that was the incorrect decision. The shirt weighs heavy, let alone the captaincy. Since he was stripped of the captaincy by Ten Hag, he's got his head down and given 100% every time he's played. His confidence has grown and he's been brilliant for us for a few years now. But, as he does with England, he looks so much more comfortable in a back 3 as he has 2 others to cover when he steps up into midfield or if the opposition get in behind. He's first choice now, and I don't think any United fan would criticise the way he's come back and got his head down. I wish Rashford and Sancho would do the same. They'd be better players if they followed Harry Mags.

But he can easily be a CDM if he had some more pace as he is very good with ball and very decent ball carrier. Also he has an eye for goal better than Hojlund aka dollar store Haaland for sure.

The best thing that happened for maguire at utd was giving up the captaincy, it was taking focus away from his own game. I'll admit while he was captain and putting in poor performances weekly I was "maguire out" and I wasn't too sure when he said he wasn't leaving and was gonna fight for his place in the team but he got his (big boat) head down and really started putting in the work and Amorim coming in and focusing on playing a back 3 seems to really be working well for him. His desire to stick around and fight in the face of the boo's and insults shows he does care about being a utd player. I wish rashford would've done the same he gad that great season under ETH and I thought that was gonna be his turning point but then he got a new contract and started coasting.

He has been relegated 3 or 4 times in his career, he was purchased for an insanely high fee, mainly because he's English. Maguire cost in excess of £80 million, therefore he gets judged on that metric. It is abundantly clear to anybody with half a brain to see that he can't play in a team that plays a high line. We have seen him do very well recently in the centre of a back 3 where Utd are spending most of the game defending deep. Utd play Southampton Thursday, let's see how well he does with the high line, or will Yoro start ahead of him? Edit: Also, I may add that he was absolutely fantastic vs. Liverpool. One of the best on the pitch. But it doesn't negate the fact that the criticism over the years was justified. It was absolutely justified because he was not good enough.
