the metal piece needs to go between the door jam and wall with the arrow pointing down [wall side]it is useless were you have it

You put the safety wedge totally wrong. The pointed end needs to go inside the door trim if it has a gap. This will be unsafe and may tip. Please refer the manual. If there is no gap, i suggest removing that safety wedge. Happy exercising!!!
