Roundball Rock was John Tesh's masterpiece! Just as I think of Larry and Magic when I hear the CBS theme, I can see MJ switching hands and laying up a reverse midair shot when I hear the NBC theme. What a time to be alive! The CBS theme was all about the grind it out teams that dominated the 1980s: the Sixers, Celtics, Lakers, Rockets and Pistons. NBC had Michael Jordan and the Bulls and, well, I suppose the Knicks to a lesser extent. But kids today will never know how exciting the NBA was back then, all of the star players from back then are old men now...then again, many don't watch the NBA at all.

He was an NFL fan (a Saints fan, and I a Bucs fan), but wasn't an NBA fan, but I'll be damned if we didn't watch the NBA together. He and I also watched some World Series games together, especially as I got older, and during the Braves 90's run. Wish he were still here, will be 16 years in a couple months, a week and a half before Thanksgiving, we'd be watching postseason baseball and the NFL again, the NBA I lost love for till LeBron hangs up the cleats (I watched exactly 1 game this year, Curry's latest championship, Game 6).

Two of the great and legendary voices of the NBA are calling it a great career: Dick Stockton and Marv Albert. When I think of the NBA, they are the 1 and 1a of NBA play by play guys. You decide which one is which. You knew it was a big game when Stockton was calling games for CBS and Albert for NBC. The only one left that is still calling games is legendary ex-coach Hubie Brown. Hubie is still calling games at age 87. Stockton retired early this year and Albert will retire at the end of the NBA Playoffs for TNT. They are two legends of the game.

A little "NBA on CBS" fantasy... (Brent Musberger or Dick Stockton -- you pick): It's been a long season for the Champions. They've faced injuries, a tough schedule, and on occasion: fisticuffs. But that didn't stop the Celtics from racking up the best record in the league. Now come the long and grueling playoffs. Do they have enough to get them through to June? (baaahh-bah-bah-baaaah-badda-dah-dah-daaah-bah-bah-baaah DAH!) The upstart Warriors played this season with grit and determination. From Curry and Thompson's nightly three point bombing raids, to Draymond Green's rough and tumble scrapping down in the pit, Golden State rolls into the playoffs looking to prove they're among the elite teams. (baaahh-bah-bah-baaaah-badda-dah-dah-daaah-bah-bah-baaah DAH!) The Detroit Pistons are looking to punch their ticket to the NBA Finals, but they know the road starts in Boston. And when you play the Celtics, you also play against their past and the ghosts watching from the rafters in old Boston Garden. Can the Pistons motor through? And in the west, the Lakers will try and move beyond the tragedy of Kobe Bryant, and honor his memory by adding another Championship to the storied franchise. It's an NBA Playoff Double Header. The Lakers and Warriors later today. But we start in the East with the Celtics and Pistons. It's Game one of the NBA Fantasy Playoffs here on CBS...

@@aaronfennell-chametzky3206 Yeah, it's a fantasy piece, Aaron. Or did you not notice Pistons and Celtics are playing in Boston Garden (not TD Garden). Or that the Celitcs have the best record in the league? Or that the Pistons are one series from the NBA Finals. Or that the NBA is on CBS? It's a fantasy piece, Aaron, recalling the great old openings on CBS. So, yes, in my fantasy, the Warriors are an upstart team. But you're more than welcome to write your own classic "NBA on CBS" fantasy opening to the NBA Playoffs. I'm sure we'd all like to read it.

In a rematch of last year’s ECF, Miami was intent on revenge from their Game 7 defeat, while Boston’s disappointing loss in the finals had them seeking to resolve unfinished business and break the tie with the LA Lakers for banner 18. The first three games were all Miami, led by Jimmy Butler, whose ability to make all the necessary plays had his team on the verge of the championship round following a 26-point beat down in Game 3, and there were even whispers of a sweep. But Boston had other ideas in mind. Evoking the 2004 Red Sox they were intent on making history, one game at a time. This was done through defensive intensity and making the extra pass, along with a little help from those little green leprechauns with 0.1 seconds left on the clock. And so now we go return back to Boston for Game 7, where the Celtics never seem to lose, as was the case for legendary center Bill Russell, who was 10-0 in these games and is memorialized on the player uniforms and the fabled parquet floor. The winner takes on Denver, who has never played a game in June and seeks to raise their first banner to the rafters in their 47-year existence. Coming up from Boston- Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals!

And hello from the then banks of the Charles River, live from the Boston Garden. There always seemed to be magic when games are played here. Maybe it’s the parquet under the players, the banners over the players or maybe even the players themselves. We start here before shifting to the fantastic Forum in sunny Inglewood, California, where it will surely be showtime. It’s the Celtics and Lakers. One more time for the NBA World Championship.

If the NBA on NBC is Michael Jordan's theme, this one was Larry Bird & Magic Johnson

far better than the annoying theme song on NBC

I love this version. Only wish CBS would get the NBA back though. Of course, with the NCAA Men's College Basketball Tournament, Men's College Basketball on CBS, NCAA College Football (SEC Regular Season Plus SEC Championship Game, and the Sun Bowl), plus all those golf tournaments, there would be no room on the schedule for NBA basketball. 😢😢😢😭😭😭😢😢😢😭😭😭🤕🤕🤕🤒🤒🤒😦😦😦😿😿😿😟😟😟😢😢😢😭😭😭

I was sad when the NBA left CBS after the 1989-90 Finals. Never liked the NBA on NBC. NBA on ABC is ok but will NEVER compare to my NBA on CBS.

@Puzzlefan30 The NBA contract if not extended ends after the 2025 NBA Finals. The only way CBS would return to broadcasting it as if follows ESPN/ABC model. That is TNT would be the main TV partner with CBS as they already share coverage during the NCAA Hoops Tournament. And CBS getting select Regular, Playoff and all of the NBA Finals.

I think Monday would be a good day to broadcast select nba games since no other tv broadcast does monday games
@americangiant10035 жыл бұрын
@@bigtimeaze-azeramos9645 I doubt CBS or any major station i.e ABC, NBC or Fox will show games on Monday Night which is a very important night for both scripted shows i.e comedies and dramas and also reality shows. With that said, Saturday Nights makes the most sense for a prime time national game of the week. Saturday Night has the lowest amount of people watching TV in America. Thus the reason, College Football during the Fall the NHL on NBC and MLB Baseball with Fox from June-August is shown on Saturday Nights. In recent years ABC/ESPN shows a Saturday evening game from Late January-Mid April. Plus starting in summer of 2019, CBS shows a limited number of WNBA games on Saturday in prime time as well. Monday Night is probably best suited for a NBA game on basic cable such as ESPN, TNT/TBS or even Fox Sports Net.

Sounds like the Japanese Dragon Ball Z opening theme (Cha La Head Cha La) was directly inspired by this. For example the bassline starts around the same time in the intro to both, and the notes are similar with slower beat pacing in the Japanese DBZ theme.
