I used to work for Mr & Mrs Yee at Kowloon's Chop Suey place in Wyandotte back in the 80's. They made the best Chinese American food around! I sure miss them and their food. Sad that it's no longer there. I live out of state now and haven't had ABC in so many years. It was so good.

What do you think the crispy coating is on the outside of the chicken? That was my favorite part!

I've been in Michigan all my life and I tell you I'm one of the few Michiganders who has no intentions of ever leaving. I love it here. I've been around the world but there is no place like Michigan. Almond Chicken and Faygo Pop (not soda) are Michigan staples.

My son and his classmates put together a recipe book at school as an art project some 30 years ago (all recipes donated by moms and dads). Funny enough there was a recipe for Almond Boneless Chicken. It taste just like the restaurants.

Would you be able to share that? No way I can get ABC out of state so thinking about trying to make it.

PC Henderson I will post it here for you tomorrow. I lost the book in a move and I did change it a bit just to make it easier for me cooking for our large family. Hope I don’t let you down.

Also widespread in WA State!! I grew up loving the almond fried chicken in local Chinese restaurants, namely Jack Lee's Chinese Gardens in Pasco Wa.. Many other places made it like your ABC... When I enlisted in the USMC, and got stationed in SoCal, every place that had "Almond Chicken" served up a chow mein type dish!! Every time I went home on leave I had to go get some REAL ALMOND FRIED CHICKEN!! I never knew it was big in the "other" apple state as well!! 😊

You can find this pretty much anywhere in Seattle but good luck trying to find it anywhere in Phoenix. Now I make it myself and while it’s not as good as back home, at least I’ve got something better than the “almond chicken” they serve here.

Shout out to KO SHENG, Columbus OHIO! Best War Su Gai ever! Which is it's ORIGINAL name! I fear it will be gone soon, been around decades. The cornstarch is key but so is the baking powder for it's puffiness. What Kims seems to lack is just a SIDE of GRAVY! Which I am sure they offered? Ko Sheng's various rice options have onion in it, and it's a game changer. My favorite dish on the planet, and this has nothing to do with MSG! The only recipe I have found that compares on Utube is from "fortunecooking" 9 years ago! Allow me to elaborate a bit... What makes it so extra special is the gravy. It's a yellow chicken based gravy that is not heavy on Asian sauces or dark. It is very thick, and although the puffy breaded chicken is literally smothered in it, the chicken still retains some crispiness throughout. Especially when eaten fresh. Since I have moved outside of town, my SO, if circumstances has him going to that part of Columbus, will make a special stop just for me to buy it! Even after nearly an hour to get here, and set to eat, it is FANTASTIC, and still very warm! In 8 years, I have only been able to have it twice. =( I have spent the last few years literally trying to perfect this recipe. If I ever do, I would have to make it known. I have had War Su Gai at every single restaurant that serves it if I am able and NOTHING compares to Ko Sheng. YES, they are still open after decades! But how much longer? I have asked named Chef's to venture there, study it, visit, record it, want to know the story of this place that haunts my taste buds. But no one has ever bothered. What a royal place with such little renown. I usually don't speak up much, but THIS recipe deserves recognition when done RIGHT! Ty, Kims and Ko Sheng for providing something people will NEVER forget in their lifetime.
