I met my future wife at the Napier Hospital in 1965. A lot of wonderful memories has now gone with the demolition of the buildings.I was in a group of young fellows working there until our plans for the future came about. Sometimes at night we would go to the telephone switch board, the operator would let us put a call over to the Nursing home. Calling nurse Brown, Dr Kildare or Ben Casey, would like to talk to you. Sometimes the night supervisor might get upset and complain to someone.? My wife and I are still together. One day we might get back there and just walk about remembering those very important good ole days.

That is Hinepare the old nurses hostel. Was then turned into a public hostel before closing. In the old laundry room at the back there was a door that lead to a tunnel that u could access to get to the old hospital that was across the road.

Interesting perspective. Crown Health Finance sold this land and buildings to Todd Property who have used Napier City Council as the primary developers of the site using Demolition One. This structure as you see it, had pumps taking water out from under the building(s) to the roadside. These pumps have been removed by "the developers" and now that water which came up as a natural spring has been let go to spill everywhere into the landscape. No one who is developing this land will admit the water is there and because it is a Government driven project through NCC there is a lot of antagonism, refusal to talk by Council and Councillors and anyone else who is either clipping the ticket through the sale or even worse, the sale of these sections at the Apex of the hill to unsuspecting homeowners who are buying WET LAND on which they will build polystyrene housing. This is serious stuff and should be brought into the daylight for ALL Napier people to see. The council has put a layer of yellow soil on top of the land to soak up the water but the area most affected where the water is eking through is still wet. I dont' want to be alone in this fight for justice for homeowners, existing and future. This subdivision has to be exposed for what it is. There is plenty of evidence to show that there are water fissures on this side of Napier Hill and the gardens have water finding its own way through to the lower levels. Todd Property and the Napier City Council and the Minister for Local Authorities MUST ACKNOWLEDGE THE WATER and fix it and not push it onto the next homeowners.
@LostKiwi5 жыл бұрын
Very interesting, I had no idea about this but it does make sense. There's a lot of things the council needs to do better, and most of them are to do with water.

its not abandoned the local maori have proved that their ansesters gave the land for a hospital, if it was not to be a hopital the land must be returned to the local tribe. succesive governments have refused to return the land as it is now worth hundreds of millions. so the war goes on in the courts. even though years ago the courts said the government should return the land. i was born there and my ansestral home was on another hill overlooking the hospital.
