As someone who has played drums essentially my whole life - dad played and got me on a kit almost as soon as I could sit up, now going on 30 - I can say that anyone can play the drums but it is probably the instrument family that benefits the most from natural talent and sense of rhythm! Like anyone can do it but if you have a natural sense of rhythm it helps! And no you do not have to be ambidextrous as most kits and beats are right-handed and can be left-handed. There is also a massive mental aspect of drumming. One reason Estepario wows even us drummers is that he can literally maintain and interplay multiple complex beats on each of his hands and feet at the same time, almost flawlessly. I saw someone else say that this is because of his brains ability to process multiple strings of thought at the same time, something not everyone can do easily and takes years to master! He is an absolute beast when it comes to his training, practicing and mental regimes to keep himself in peak condition for drumming! He's a real inspiration! Not only to drummers but just to anyone looking to improve themselves!

I have been playing drums since I was 7yrs old so that's 41 yrs now....Play in a cover band in Las Vegas .......There are 2 types of drummers..Ones that can read sheet music and ones who can just play by ear.....

Definitely check out the revs studio version of this.. The guy was insane on the drum (rip the rev).. First song I ever heard was Eternal Rest many years ago and worth a look at for their early stuff.. Newer to community so just found this vid but I've been playing guitar for 4 years now and guitar for 3 :) edit: answer to 2nd question is that learning music in general is really about preference. There are sheets to learn drum parts but to my knowledge most drummers including myself prefer to learn by ear as it you catch the feel the drums provide way more and being able to feel the drums is really important. I also just think I have a pretty good ear and find reading a sheet tedious, annoying, and frustrating sometimes

Funny enough when I was 15 (the rev)(rip)ex-avenged sevenfold drummer was a huge influence on me when I first started and I’m 28 now so he still one of my favorite drummers, he also was an amazing pianist and he wrote majority of the guitars, piano and drums up til his last album with the band…oh he was also a talented singer and back up vocalist as well!!!

I used to be a percussionist many moons ago. I first started when I was around 9 when I was in an orchestra. I played violin, viola, cello and bass. During my four years in the orchestra I learned to play kettle drums which turned into drums like you’re reacting to but nowhere near that level. Physically I can’t play anymore because of broken bones ironically.

Hey Ash, that was cool, but then I'm a big fan of Avenged Sevenfold - saw them a few years ago backed by Disturbed ... Was an epic gig. It was a sad day when their original drummer died. Don't play the drums, but have been a bass player for 43 years (I'm 59 now), and I also do some keyboards/sequencing (via Ableton Live). I was self taught, although I did learn to read music and play trombone when I was pretty young, but don't read it nowadays - mostly play by ear!

Hi, I play drums and bass which I learned on my own. There is what is called sheet music for all instruments. For me, the drums are one of the hardest instruments to play because it requires a lot of coordination. Bota hands and feet have to be able to hit diferent notes at the same time unlike the bass for example, you only use your hands, no feet involve. The cowbell sound is the inverted simbal in front of him. What makes el Estepario so good is his presision and speed. The guy is something else. One last thing, since his name is in spanish you have to pronounce the i like it was an e in english. Hope that I got all your questions. Good reaction.

@@lda5803 I cant read music either. We play by ear. Lots of misicians like that. You need what is called perfect pitch hearing to be able to play without reading. Not easy at all.

I'm a multi instrumentalist. Guitar, bass, drums, piano, cello and fiddle. Been playing music since about 1994-1995. This is by no means an easy song on drums.

I've played guitar off and on for a few years, and I know good playing when I hear it. These guys may not be on my "go-to" list, but I can appreciate good playing when I hear it. Being off and on on guitar, I'll fight for my life through a Death or Gojira song, but I'll occasionally play some Blink-182 for what feels like an easy win. That's not to hype up anyone or put anybody down; simplicity can say a lot. Metal just leans towards the extreme in all respects.

I think they’re Meinl stacked trash cymbals that you’re referring to. Limb independence rather than ambidextrous. He’s playing at a very advanced level; sometimes “easier” songs are more difficult to play actually. Hope this helps 🤘

I have been learning music since 2001 I can play the drums guitar and bass. I’m self taught music has been life since I can remember. So there’s a lot when it comes with music and music theory when learning but for me I just play what I feel and correct it when it doesn’t feel right. I also covered it in my band in 2007 😂 not even on this level but it was fun. Awesome reaction at the end of the day is about having fun doing what you do.
