If x = 0 is a solution to the equation that you wrote at the beginning. I don't think you're allowed to divide by x^3, since that would be dividing by 0?

So this will always result in being multiplied only by one function of x or one function of y. What about when it’s both? One particular instance of this would be when someone multiplied it by x^-a y^-b. You’d have to add a to each x term and b to each y term after doing the partial derivatives and set each expression that has the same x and y powers to match their coefficients to solve for a and b. Pretty much, what would we do if it is multiplied by more than just one function? Divide and hope for the best, or perhaps find some particular insight some other way? The x^a and y^b was some easy one I just came up rn but I can imagine there are all sorts of things you can do to mess w those exact equations 😂

I know it's too late to ask a doubt about this concept relative to the upload date but can we consider any equation as an almost exact derivative equation or it have to be only in the form of (constant × partial derivative of m wrt to y = partial derivative of n wrt to x)

so you're special integrating factor can either be Mu(x) or Mu(y) and not both?
@mike11022
@mike11022 7 жыл бұрын
In general Mu is a function of x AND y. But in that case, Mu is harder/extremely hard/impossible to find. There is a partial differential relationship that Mu(x,y) must satisfy, which can be used to guess Mu, but there isn't an explicit formula for Mu.
