The ages of the Band-Aids were not exaggerated. In fact, there were several famous groupies that were even younger. Lori Mattox was 14 when she began a two-year relationship with Jimmy Paige from Led Zeppelin and 17 when she started dating Mick Jagger. Sable Starr was 13 when she had sex with Iggy Pop and 14 the first time she slept with David Bowie. Bebe Buell (Liv Tyler's mom) was 15 when she became a groupie. Most of them went on to "date" several other rockstars as well. It was very common for adult rockstars to be sleeping with very young girls. Both Steven Tyler and Ted Nugent even had legal guardianship of their underage girlfriends. (I am using terms like "sleeping with" and "dating" because that's how these women described it, but let's be real, the term we should be using is statutory rape.)

This is one of my favorite films. Here are a few interesting facts about it: It's the semi-autobiographical story of Cameron Crowe, the director and writer, who became Rolling Stone's youngest ever journalist in 1973 at age fifteen. He was often assigned to interview the "difficult bands" that didn't trust the magazine because they found his youth and earnestness endearing. Crowe once toured with The Allman Brothers, and just like Russell, Greg Allman first denied his story to Rolling Stone's fact-checkers before coming clean and admitting it was all true. The inspiration for Penny Lane was Pennie Lane Trumbull, who formed a group with her friends that followed bands on tour called The Flying Garter Girls, the inspiration for The Band-Aids. The scene where Russell jumps off a roof into a pool was based on Duane Allman doing the same from the third floor of a hotel while on tour. According to Crowe, the "I am a golden god!" line was a quote from Robert Plant. Lester Bangs and Ben Fong-Torres were real people. The movie flopped at the box office, not even earning back its budget, but it was a critical success, winning the Oscar for Best Screenplay, Golden Globes for Best Picture - musical or comedy and Best Supporting Actress (Kate Hudson), and a Grammy for the soundtrack. Russell Hammond was originally meant to be played by Brad Pitt, but during rehearsals, he and Crowe agreed he was not a good fit for the role.

Definitely a comfort movie for me. Funny, heartwarming and nostalgic. Absolute banger soundtrack too.

This is essentially the autobiography of the person who wrote & directed it, Cameron Crowe. He's a hugely successful film director now but started as a music journalist at like 15 yrs old. It went almost exactly as shown in the movie. Became a big writer at Rolling Stone magazine. He said everything that happens to William in the movie happened to him in some form in his early years as a music journalist. "I"m a golden god' is attributed to Robert Plant, singer for Led Zeppelin. Crowe went on tour with the Allman Bros and this tour w/the fictional band is based somewhat on that. One of the best movies ever.

Such a great cast because the writer/director is extremely famous. "Fastimes at Ridgemont High' is based on an article he wrote when he went undercover at a high school student in the 70s. He took all that stuff and then he was hired to write the movie, too. He wrote & directed 'Jerry McGuire' w/Tom Cruise, Renee Zellweger and Cuba Gooding Jr., wrote and directed 'Singles', an iconic Grunge era movie set in Seattle with members of Pearl Jam & Soundgarden in the cast, along with Matt Dillon and a bunch of people you'd recognize. Also 'Say Anything' with John Cusack and Ione Skye and a bunch of other great people. And 'Vanilla Sky' with Tom Cruise and a bunch of other stars. He was also married to a rock star, Nancy Wilson from the rock band Heart that she and her sister founded. She created a lot of the original music for Almost Famous, like the songs Stillwater did, along with some other actual rock stars from the era, including Peter Frampton who played one of the managers.

Also Aussie Noah Taylor who plays Sabini in Peaky Blinders amongst other things. Frances McDormand was amazing in this, probably the best haha. And the list goes on lol. Great reaction, thank you!

i LOVE this movie. and the cast is stacked. the writing is great. because the person who made this movie is the kid. its based on his actual experience when he was a teenager. i get the mom being protective. not the way she was at home, but with the tour. i wouldn't let my 15 year old go on tour with a band surrounded by drugs and sex and all sorts of craziness. but I get that she didn't want to drive him away like his sister. this movie is fun but also serious and shows some of the darker aspects of how things were back then. if you didn't look up all the cast after the movie you should. all of the groupies were from things, pretty much everyone in the movie was someone recognizable for other things. also yes jason lee was in my name is earl, but if you've never seen the Kevin smith movies you really have to see them. he's in most of those. and if you liked the main kid I recommend the movie Saved! it is a fun satire that he is in.

When I rewatch the movie I always pick up something different. I think penny realized at the end that the band only viewed her as a groupie but in her mind she was different bc she only slept with Russel and she thought the relationship was deeper than how Russel actually viewed it. Fairuza Balk talked about the “groupies” at the end bc they don’t actually love the band, just their status but these band members aren’t seeing any difference between the two groups at all.
@ralphbarf7736 ай бұрын
When you rewatch take notice of the conflict in this film, it is about fantasy self-perception and the image of people who can't see who they are, this is represented as being cool vs reality or being authentic. William, his mother, and his mentor are authentic and live in the real world, William is the enemy as he could expose flaws making characters uncool which would ruin their perceived image. Along the way and in the end, the other characters get dragged into reality. This is a masterpiece, If you take notice almost every scene sets up the conflict of reality, being authentic vs image, being cool.

Loosely based on writer/director, Cameron Crowe’s life as a young rock critic. So far, this is Kate Hudson’s one and only Oscar nomination (supporting role). Not sure if you realized that Ana Paquin was in the movie who played as Rogue in the live action X-Men movies of which both came out the same year, later would play in True Blood series on HBO. This did win Cameron Crowe an Oscar for original screenplay. Always loved this film of how immersive it feels like you’re taken alongside William (played by Patrick Fugit, Gone Girl, Babylon, First Man, Saved!) in his feature film debut. I guess I also have a soft spot of the roadtrip movie. This was probably his magnum opus. He’s stumbled afterward to today. I hope he’s got another slew of good ones to bounce back. One of his most famous films he’s written/directed are Jerry Maguire (1996) and Say Anything (1989).
