We call it a "Dutch Fit" when the tolerance of a shaft that a bearing is being pressed onto is slightly loose, using a small punch and peen the surface where the bearing seats. The dimple the punch mark creates will end up slightly higher than the surface of the original shaft. You may have to do several punches around the entire shaft. The shaft is tapered because the end is not supported while being machined, the pressure of the cutting tool moving slightly faster than it is removing material. Good Luck, love the channel !

I was shown a method of increasing outside diameter or inside diameter of things like this by a technician I worked with early in my career. He would take a center punch and a hammer making punches around the circumference. Proved to me that although you are making dents with the punch, the material has to go somewhere so the outside of the punched material goes up. I have used this successfully for bearing support surfaces of inner and outer races many times over the years since.

Another issue I found with the rubber knobs was that the outer sheath of rubber is not adhered to the inner barrel and if it spins on that barrel, it can loosen your knob cap and you’ll pull the whole sleeve off.

@riccardocarbo24794 жыл бұрын
I think I might have a few answers to toss around. First, you won't like... drape some crazy glue gel around the 0.05 gap (a bit on the shaft) and the Fkr sit for 2 hours in a warm spot. Assemble the handle the rest of the way. Once that glue is dry and not misshapen by testing it too soon, it really can't fall out because the tolerance is too tight. Second idea; run a piece of dental floss parallel against the shaft and drop the bearing over it and pull the floss as you push down the bearing. That Johnson n Johnson "mint waxed" is probably ideal. "I floss my bearings. Shutup." Third idea; it's nasty but it can work. Squeeze the base of your shaft... with a toothy... set of pliers with the splined edges biting out the aluminum with raised roughness that fills the space. It's likely to last. But really, the first attempt should be the cyanoacrylate glue-gel, or even the rubberized type, and if it doesn't work, it's removable with acetone. A 0.05 tolearance is a sweaty fingerprint thick. You might consider an epoxy or JB weld, (use a ghost thin coating to fill it. Once you get it tight, the only play (rocking) you'll have left is between the bearings and the raceways. Been fixing and fishing reels since I'm 9, so I've gotten jiggy with it, as I've often seen you do, too. Fun to think about! What do you think of those ideas??
@TackleAdvisors4 жыл бұрын
Those are all very good ideas, conceptually....Where it becomes difficult is the .05 becomes .025 when you have to accommodate for the fact it's a sleeve on a cylinder. So now you have to get really fine. I just received yesterday another Gomexus care package..handles with knobs pre installed...and they wobble just like this...Shimming is perfection....Gotta look at them and see if it's the post's diameter being too narrow. I have some 1/8" wide mylar tape that may actually fit the bill....boy would that be a awesome!
@riccardocarbo24794 жыл бұрын
@@TackleAdvisors I'm fairly sure then, that the tolerance-play is in their bearings. I thought all the play was just between the shaft and cylinder race. I used to work in a Boeing parts mfg plant and the ball-bearings were so tight, I couldn't even rotate them with my fingers, let alone feel any side play. If the new Gomex knobs wobble, chances are there's more play in the bearings than around the shaft. But you can test that out on your bearing installer to see the wobble play in isolation. The problem with BBs in the handles is dirt exposure and premature wear if unsealed. For a guy who doesn't vibe with BB under the spool, then why the handle? Feel? A system of 2 or 3 bushing sleeves, each inserted interior to its larger (Russian dolls) and then sealed by screwing the handle on, would be more solid than dim sum bearings in some damn knob. (Good one?) And, the mylar tape is going to catch n crush away, like pulling down socks. Crazy glue that bastard. Insert the BB onto shaft, dribble glue down the side of the shaft to trickle into the gap, filling it. Grease the bottom to prevent glue leakage. Dry 2 hours. Try it. I don't know where your other 0.025 come into play. Keep the faith!

Gomexus will give you a free handle shaft (with a truer diameter from end to end), then that can be installed on your Certate LT, but you’d have to drill out your reel’s stock handle shaft to get it off, then install Gomexus’ shaft with a supplied screw. Also the diagram on Gomexus’ site doesn’t show the use of the washers on the Daiwa handle shaft; only the bushing ...whereas on the Shimano shaft pictorial, they use one washer before sliding the first bearing on. gomexusgroup.com/collections/frontpage/products/gomexus-galaxy-22mm-titanium-knob-for-spinning-and-baitcasting-reel-t22

Ok, don't know how this is applicable. The guys I work with fit bearings into shafts for large electric motors. When the bearings are new out of the box they are too small to fit over the shaft. They put the bearings into a machine that heats them up with some sort of electro magnetic induction. The thermal expansion allows the bearing to fit over the shaft. They are positioned correctly and when they cool down they are snug in place, you physically cannot move them. I don't know how they get them off again as I have not seen that side. I always wondered if the tech could be scaled down. What do you think?
@TackleAdvisors4 жыл бұрын
If i'm not mistaken that's how many of the 2 piece gears are assembled.....whether it be fishing reels or power tools...so I assume it could be....it's possible that's how some of the knob posts are fit to the handles..unless it's just a standard press fit which is likely. I don't think you'd want to not be able to remove the bearing though.
