My story is nearly identical to you. I found this guitar one morning at the local used gear shop for $699 US. I called my wife and she encouraged me to go buy it. I had it by lunch time. I’d wanted one for nearly a decade since they were introduced.

Great video, I bought this guitar about 6 months ago and I'm glad to hear someone else didn't gel with the pickups, to start with it sounded great but lacked variety, I took out the active pickups and put in a passive set, I'm much happier and its a definite keeper!

Seems like Jim Root is moving towards a more passive sound as well with his new emg pickups too. P90 in the neck is my favorite!
@cormacio10011 ай бұрын
I've tried the Jim Root Tele and really liked it but I ended going for the Mexican Jim Root Jazzmaster. I picked it for 2 reasons, the block inlays and the the pickups that were on it. At the time it was the only Jim Root model with the EMG Jim Root Signature Daemonum Open-Coil Active Humbuckers. I believe they are now in his new Charvel models. They sound awesome and are super versatile in my opinion. Super Hot but kind of sound like passive pickups. I use them in my band for hard rock not metal
@alexradsby11 ай бұрын
I also think the jazzmaster would be the right pick! Those pickups needs to be in all his guitars. Well done! 👏🙂

I’ve got the 57/66 TW in my LTD EC-1000, and they are a definite improvement over the 81/60 to me at least. They still sound like EMG’s, but they are a little bit more passive in feel and have a little bit of that character in the tone. I’m thinking about trying out Fishmans, I just can’t solder to save my life so thats more of a commitment than the EMGs. Great video as always, man. Keep it up!
@alexradsby2 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! That's kinda what I'm thinking too about the 57/66 set! AND if im trying out fishman then I'm absolutely leaving my guitar with a luthier to fix it for me 😅

Thank you man! It means a lot! Yes the current EMG set in this aren't the best. Though his white jazzmaster are supposed to have more dynamic and warm pickups from emg. They are meant to sound like passives 🙂

Have you tried Fishman Fluence pickups before? They have 2 voices that you change by (usually) having a push/pull pot. The 2 voices are typically active and passive and I personally really like them. Like you I wasn’t a fan of EMG’s but the Fishman pickups I think are great - I have a set of moderns in 1 guitar and a Will Adler set to put in another Edit: started typing before the end of the video when you mention Fishmans, so of course you’ve heard of them 😂

No tone control? That’s interesting. Kinda matches the lack of dynamics you were talking about though. Looks amazing. Nice playing samples 🤘 Never played EMGs. Love the case!! I think your weight conversion was a little off. 6 lbs would be super light. Great find for that price! Wow
@alexradsby2 жыл бұрын
I used the google? 😅 get on metric already haha EMGs 81/60 are fun for 15-30 minutes after you relived your youth metal phase, you kinda want a more versitile guitar 😝 hopefully these new pickups will deliver what I need.

I don’t know if Fender ever changed this, but I had one of these from an older batch and it had a single action truss rod which eventually became pretty problematic. My neck warped and the only fix was to use a heat blanket and clamp to get it straightened again.

I would take the volume knob off completely... and put in a kill switch. OR... put in some PAF style pickups. It is a great skeleton for some good PAFs ...the mahogany body...the hardtail...HH routing..with the good back contours. I've been lusting after the black Jazzmaster shaped black Jim Root...and probably putting in some burstbucker type of passive HBS. I've never actually played active pickups, so I just don't know...but I like the rock- hard rock tones of GnR, Pearl Jam more than the heavy metal tones of Slipknot or...any metal.

I got one of these about three months ago and I don’t like it at all. I cannot stop the buzzing mostly at the 12th fret and higher unless I have the action so high you hear the notes out of tune when fretted. Does anyone else have this problem? It’s almost as if there’s too much play in the strings when picked you see them move around quite a lot and I have a 64 for the low B and it’s still rattles away. Just looking for any help from people who own this guitar. Only ever heard good things about it but I really disappointed with it. I think I might have some how got a dud.
@alexradsby Жыл бұрын
I am sorry that you're experiencing problems. I would recommend you giving it to a guitar tech to get it setup properly. Definitely sounds like a setup problem, could be any number of problems from frets not being properly leveled to neck relief. A tech would fix this for $70-100. I do this for 95% of my guitars if I can't solve it myself by either neck relief, bridge height, neck shimming or nut height (cut properly for the tuning I'm in, definitely tech needed or go really slow). Definitely worth letting a professional do it for you.

@@alexradsby I think you're right, I think I know what I'm doing as long as everything goes the way it's supposed to but if there's any problems, I have no idea what I'm actually doing. I will look into finding a guitar tech/luthier around where I live.
