ALMOST Ready To Fly My Late Grandfather’s J-3 Cub (UPDATE #42)

First of all I want to apologize for not uploading more often or sooner. I have ran into so many problems and I have been very busy trying to get things straightened out and PERFECT on my airplane. I will explain more later and another update video. But this is a walk around video of my late Grandfather’s 1946 Piper J-3 Cub that he bought in 1968. We have actually been flying it for all these years. It hasn’t been a hanger Queun most of its life like a lot of people when they they’ve had a plane for that long. Lol!!!

Stunning! Great work. There is something so special about these aircraft. Have always been my favorite, and not sure why. Somehow the yellow J3 just speaks to the core of manned flight. Chad, you've done an amazing job on the restoration. I've watched your videos almost since day one when you got started on this amazing journey. I would say this ranks as a museum quality restoration. No detail was overlooked. Hope you're still planning for Don to due first flight. I'll be watching for it, hopefully soon. How much fuel is in the wing tank? How do you manage the fuel?

It has a 8 gallon wing tank that feeds into the main tank. So once in flight at the main gets around a half a tank you turn the valve and it gravity feeds into the main tank.

How do you polish the prop like that?

Took me about 40 hrs to get it polished. It use to be painted grey but paint was really OLD. I started with 3 inch round disc of 220 grit and went all the way up to 10,000 grit sand paper on a drill.
