In my experience. The B&W PI8 sounds twice as good as the AZ80S. The sound of the PI8 is truly unmatched. Listening to music on the PI8 is special. They filled a hole in my heart that I didn't know I had. Super wide sound stage every voice and instrument is distinguishable. The PI8 are in a league of their own. The best listening experience in a pair of earbuds, in my opinion.

i dont recommend them, i went thru 3 different ones in one year because they all have connectivity issues where one earbud just loses connection and you just can't connect them anymore. Love its sound quality and anc but it doesnt matter

Question for Picky Audio…. I’m now a fan of your KZbin channel and love your reviews (very science driven) and find them the most helpful…. I’m using a pair of first generation Bose quietcomfort earbuds.. Great nc but way toooo much base and very flat sound…. Local store didn’t have the BW Pi8 but I did pick up a pair of the Tech AZ80’s after your review…. Incredible! Great sound, good NC, incredible software….. So stacking all this up against “just the sound quality” and setting aside that we all have different ears, and different preferences, etc….. Is the sound on the BW Pi8’s that “much better” than the Techs that most listeners should forgo the other items and dive in for the superior sound quality?

Great work here man! I currently have the Momentum 4 and the AZ80's and I am trying to decide which one to send back. Based on sound alone I am leaning towards the AZ80s. It just seems like they do indeed have a wider soundstage and better separation. I am using them on dynamic EQ. I seem to remember that was your favorite as well? This chart really helped me just now. I was going to actually send them both back and get the PI8s... but this helped me to see that I am already on the right track! Thanks again.

I also have the Mark Levinson's 5909 for indoor so really no actual need of the Pi8, at least not until they drop to a reasonable price. I have the PX8 over ear headphones and these sounded markedly better when hooked up to iPhone by USB C, just wondering is it a similar story here. Hi! First, thanks for such a detailed review! For these, is the "ANC on" an automatic ANC where it would turn off when there is no noise? I always think ANC off is preferable for the sound and I don't want to go to the app to turn it off every time.

I tested them for a short period before I ranked every earbud. Sound is easily a 9 maybe a 9.5. Comfort was great as well.

Did they get rid of that stupid option where you HAD to go through the app to turn on passthrough? For the Pi7 S2, you'd have to turn passthrough off of you wanted to have actual noise cancelling. It was a mind boggling design choice. Is the app easy to connect to, or does it still take multiple attempts to connect to the app?

I love the AZ80’s but they died on me out of nowhere. Not dead because they work but the left earbud sound output is like a whisper. I already own the PX8 and love them so I got the PI8. I also liked the PI5’s I got a while ago so I don’t expect me to dislike the PI8

Can you compare them to the Beoplay EX's? Their SQ is my reference (by a long shot from the Sony's and AirPod pro2's), but ANC sucks and transparency sucks more, but still worth it. Update: Bought the Pi8's, loved the sound, had connectivity problems and weird glitches where one bud is ANC and the other is in transparency mode. They would flipflop when activating the ANC. Weird issue. I think compared to the B&O's, the B&O's still sound amazing but the clarity and detail of the newer premium buds maked them sound a bit tired. I went with the AZ80's and I think they're better in every category. Just my 2¢

Great review. Guess they're relying on the brand bane to carry sales since better performing buds are available for less money. I tried out the pi7 s2 and was unimpressed. They sounded fantastic for hip hop and electronic, but terrible with genres like rock. Hard to believe you couldn't customize the EQ with those.

@@hasseygolf With the possible exception of the Sony XM5, to get better sound quality than Airpods Pro 2 you will have to give up some strength in noise cancellation. The Devialet Gemini 2 is one of my favourites.

I'm sure they sound great but the mic quality sucks compared to some cheaper ear buds. I use the phone a lot at work and it's noisy. Gonna have to pass on these for the mic failure.

The Pi8 compared to the AZ80's in my opinion is pretty superior in terms of sound quality. I have both device's. I was very impressed by the AZ80's. If you're going in for the best performer in terms of quality sound and detail and also volume... the Pi8 is a no brainer.

the only thing the bugs me about B&W, once you buy one of their expensive items, example PX8 Cans, you may never get an app firmware update, when you showed the equalizer on the Pi8, I thought, wow! at last, an possible update for the PX8 within the app, but it was not to be, Yes my PX8 are gangster sounding as I am sure the Pi8 are, but come on B&W, "pull your finger out" and get with some firmware updates for everyone that spent the big $$ - I will stick with my Pearl Pro 👌👌

Unfortunately I would have to sell my Technics AZ80, Sennheiser MTW4 and Bose QC Ultra all together for 70-80% off the original purchased price in order to buy these Pi8 buds. Not 100% convinced. And I don't have any other BW stuff but do have other Sennheiser and Bose products. Which means, I would have to sell those too and get BW over ear headphones and soundbars as well, which i can't really afford right now.

Absolutely love my B&W over-ear headphones but their in-ears have indeed been lacking so far for a number of reasons. Not really worth the money. Just dont feel like spending that much on tws earbuds anymore, got az80, mtw3, mtw4(replacement for my broken mtw3 during warranty period, and after 3months of using them happily....its broken again and I'm done with sennheiser) I'm using galaxy buds 2 pro on my S23+ and I couldn't be happier.

My galaxy buds 2 pro accidentally went for a swim in my bathing suit pocket (which I immediately realized after the fact, and tried to save them). I took the buds case apart (really easy to do) and cleaned out all the water I could see. The buds are working perfectly, except for the case having issues charging the right earbud specifically. Weighing on whether or not it's worth it to replace the case with an oem used one on ebay for $30

I have had many headphones like Sony WF-XM5, Sennheiser MTW3, Huawei Freebuds pro 3, B&O Beoplay EX and currently the Samsung Galaxy buds2 pro, they are the most comfortable headphones I have ever had. The sound may not be the best but they are extremely discreet and small. I love them. The Galaxy buds2 pro are my first buds of Samsung.

I sold my Sony WF1000XM5. They sounded too processed and artificial. They're small slippery and just felt too plasticky, not premium at all. Also pretty poor fit. Also dubious battery life. It drains inconsistent. Got the Pi8's. Sorry Sony.

Some real resonable buds I found for under 100 were the JBL Vibe Beams. They don't clog easy, they are comforatble, long long battery, decent sound quality that rivals my smaznug bud pro 2's, and they come with anc some how!
