For anyone who does not already know this, each zone in the expansions has a main side quest story, you usually have to do the first quest of which to get the aether currents. The story for The Peaks in Stormblood is actually all about Black Rose, it's origins and what it does. (Edit: it is the Castrum Oriens story in The Fringes not The Peaks my bad.)

I agree with you guys on Alisaie, as well. She and her brother have gone through the most growth among the Scions, but they also had the most room to grow to begin with, and Alisaie's arc has been very satisfying. Shadowbringers does start a tad slow again, but it gets rolling faster than Stormblood did after a couple of really poignant bits and a breather episode and then it just doesn't slow down until 6.3. Endwalker manages to top Shadowbringers, but Shadowbringers is a truly excellent expansion.

So while I've been commenting here and there as I binge your whole series, this was where I caught up to MSQ. When you said it was rough, it was ABSOLUTELY EXCRUCIATING. Not knowing what would happen, not having even seen any trailers for Shadowbringers yet, I had NO CLUE what was happening to the Scions! This was also before they required the Crystal Tower alliance raid for MSQ, that didn't happen until 5.3! So I had NO IDEA WHO THIS G'RAHA THAT EVERYONE KEPT TALKING ABOUT EVEN WAS (i did it on an alt character shortly after catching up on MSQ (this was also before they added NG+, so I couldn't even redo it on my main ;; )). Even as I went through base Shadowbringers, I was largely clueless as to the who or what of it all. Ameryic's point when talking to Varis reminds me alot of real life to an unsettling degree: Of war. In Ishgard, we were able to see what happened, why it happened, and were given the whole truth the good and the bad. To everyone else that WASN'T there-which is a lot of people, it looks like Ishgard took their oppositions down and then extended the olive branch. We know Nidhogg was the problem because we were there to see it but the world may not-we never get to read that Heavensward memoir and since theyres no ducking internet in Eorzea news of that peace conference is basically word of mouth if at all. Hearken back to real life, we know war is a travesty that destroys all it touches but how much of what we see about both sides is actually true when we weren't given a chance to see the truth play out in its entirety and the "truth" we DO see has changed hands who knows how many times before reaching us?

The common theory for why Ghimyt Dark is the way it is is because it was actually supposed to be the testing ground for Trusts (which would become Duty Supports later). As ShB was the first expansion with Trusts/Duty Supports, they needed to figure out if AI companions would work properly in a dungeon setting before that. I don't know if that was confirmed anywhere, but a lot of people say that. It makes a certain amount of sense because in addition to normal dungeon behavior, they also need Trusts to do special actions from time to time (whether it's for easter egg character moments or to resolve dungeon mechanics that would not be doable by an AI under normal behavior).

The thing i find most hilarious about Varis's plan is that he somehow has forgotten that Calamities tend to be 1000-1500 years apart. Like, did he just think he was going to live another 8000 years? And that they're near apocalyptic events, Bahamut was the exception because of Louisiox, but the true devastation of them is horrifying and tends to cull humanity to the brink. Encyclopedia Eorzia part 1 was published before Shadowbringers and is safe to read, goes into the calamities time lines and is a must read for lore nerds. Also about the Imperial Family line of succession since the game makes it really hard to piece together unless you remember throwaway lines from ARR; Solus had two sons, those 2 sons also have a son of their own. Solus's eldest son died in early adulthood, but a line of succession was never established whether the crown passed to Solus's grandson via his first born, or to Solus's second born son. This is what lead to the civil war between uncle and nephew and why Zeno's being named heir while his identity is in question could potentially help the uncles claim as he has a legitimate heir of his own who does not have the already bad rep Zeno's has plus also might be possessed by a demon. The uncle starts to look good in the eyes of the people, Varis worried about a second civil war. And before Solus, the Garlean Empire was the Garlean Republic with Senators in charge. Solus came in a Julius Ceaser'd that shit.

The thing with the first time you *realize* it's Gaius being the first time you hear him voiced in a scene after meeting him only could throw off English voiced scene players. The actors on the other versions didn't change. And it's for that reason I believe all the lead up cutscenes with him are unvoiced. Because he would've been 10000000000% recognized immediately if he'd started talking in that first cutscene with Shadowhunter if I had the audio on JPN.
@rob42902 жыл бұрын
It's funny you mention that there'd be more fanfare if you hadn't guessed that it was Gaius - I think they wanted you to know (or at least have a strong guess) it was Gaius from the start. Initially it was just his mask that was supposed to give him away but most people (unless they got into discussions online) would glaze right over that and their character apparently recognizing him was a surprise or confusing point for the player. They went back and reworked his abilities after the Praetorium update to match and make it obvious he was using the same skills, so that they could make it more apparent in The Burn that it was him.

The audio seems to cut out Krile's voice at around 6:08.

06:09 does the audio for Krile cut out for anyone else?

Yeah, it ducks out for some reason for a few seconds.

I think Solus mentioned that they could make bodies out of aether, but that it's just must easier to have a ready made body prepared in advance. This was mentioned in the bit when he talks about the body clones. So they don't require another person to serve as their host.

The stuff with the gas gets explained much more in depth later sorta. But more then anything it’s more simply about what actually causes calamity and why they are all elementally aspected except for one which was darkness. It’s why in 1.0 no one thought a 7th umberal calamity was going to happen due to having six they went through all ready

The ending killed me 😂 very well done As many have said though clones have been established in Crystal Tower via Unei and Doga but also just like around Azys Lla in general with a lot of the enemies IIRC
