I am sure this woman has led a fascinating life and has some great stories and she has been very industrious and smart in making her retirement work. It's somewhat misleading to say that she's living on $130 Canadian each month. She is renting part of her home and continues to work which brings in income. Not everyone is as smart and industrious as this woman or would be able to follow the same blueprint. She's also in relatively good health which works to her advantage. I think this plan could work for a subset of retirees though. Bravo to her for carving out an adventure for the next stage of her life!

The title is misleading. Her pension is only a small supplement to what she earns from rentals.
@cecilbatts883511 ай бұрын
Yes, the title is misleading and at 40 seconds I was going to respond; but then I thought I should see all of it first. That is what KZbinrs do to get you to click. It is quite common. I live on $10 per month...........but then I have other income I did not reveal, Ha.
@grignongb524011 ай бұрын
The truth is somewhere in between. $130US/month is 2,200+ pesos/month or 26,500/ year. That is enough to easily cover the fixed expenses of utilities, taxes, transportation, et cetera that she listed in the video. It's doubtful her rental income is more than $130/month. Certainly the additional income allows her a significantly more free spending lifestyle.

Canada gives 1400$ monthly pension, even immigrants who have never worked in the country. After living there 10 years and being a resident or citizen, everyone is qualified for $ 1400 per month. So, I don't understand why this Canadian lady could only have 130$ in pension from Cabada. Even my grandmother, who immigrated from the Carribbean to Canada and never worked in Canada and never contributed a dime in taxes to the system, was qualified fir 1400$ per month. So, help me understand why this woman only received 130$ per month in pension from Canada. I understand that the 130$ is a pension from the works that she has done over the years she lived I Canada. What she doesn't know is, she is still qualified fir the 1400$ monthly. My mother didn't work in Canada much. Based on her work, she ws only qualified for around 110$ monthly, but as I said, even if someone never worked in Canada, they are still qualified for the Federal pension. She can still apply for it and she will get it.
@AlmostRetiredinMexico Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment. Rennie took her pension early, which cut the amount some. And she also mentioned something about re-applying. There may also be a limit based on Rennie living outside Canada. For US citizens, the benefits that are "earned" by working in the US can be collected outside the US. But the benefits that are "unearned" which apply whether or not you worked, can only be collected if you live inside the US. But I'll pass along your comment to Rennie so she can look into it.
@renniemartin5587 Жыл бұрын
I am getting the max allowed as I live outside the country. I have applied for my OAS but am still waiting and it will also only be a very small amount. If I was living in Canada then I would be entitled to a minimum living wage.

@AlmostRetiredinMexico Жыл бұрын
I agree. About 50% pay federal income tax (and cannot get a refund back.) But they all pay property and sales tax. "Illegals" in Mexico pay sales and property tax, but are more likely to skip the income tax.
@RishayanPorMexico Жыл бұрын
Undocumented people in the US pay ALOT of taxes, sales tax, income tax, property tax( those that own properties), etc. and get little or nothing in return. Certainly a lot more than 50% of them. And everybody in Mexico pay sales tax, as it is hidden in the price of almost everything you buy. But very few pay property tax, only the rich and middle class who live in certain urban areas. In most rural areas across Mexico, nobody pays property taxes and even in some large urban areas. When I lived in the urban sprawl of Puebla, my landlord told me that his junta auxiliar does not (yet) have to pay any property tax, rich or poor.
@AlmostRetiredinMexico Жыл бұрын
@@RishayanPorMexico They all pay sales and property tax, but a lot of them work under the table and avoid income tax (which is true of many people in these low-income fields - it doesn't matter if they are immigrants or were born in the USA.) Many undocumented immigrants are taken advantage of by their employers too. I didn't know about property tax issues in Mexico. I pay every year. Maybe it has to do with how long you've lived somewhere. If you've bought in the past 10 years, the government has better records of you. If your home has been in your family for generations, the records may be limited. I really don't know - but thanks for sharing that!
@RishayanPorMexico Жыл бұрын
@@AlmostRetiredinMexico yea, you're right. The government today has advanced tremendously with their technology. Recent property owners are probably more susceptible to being taxed. But I have always lived in the ""bad side"" of towns where the government still hasn't completely conquered, and so anything still goes. Most of the people I know either live on communal lands or properties that have been in their families for at least half a century. And nobody I know pay any taxes whatsoever. A few years ago, the government sent a bunch of wet behind the ears college kids with computers to a small rural village near mine to formally register every property, with the intent to start charging property taxes. But the people chased the kids out of town with machetes, and the government hasn't been back since.( and still nobody pays any property taxes!).
