Appliances are expensive in Mexico - especially the Baja Peninsula. Are you talking about the pool? It's just like the US - chlorinated.

She doesn't look Spanish. She could pass for Mexican though or any other Íberoamerica ethnicity. You look more Spanish than she does. Spaniards are European. There are European looking Mexicans though especially in Jalisco. I have Mexican family originally from Argentina and originally from Italy who are Mexican but in NYC people would assume they are Italian. So the reality is anyone can look Mexican since Mexican is a nationality.

Best place to live…. All depends on what you’re looking for. If you have a million dollars in your pocket, Pedregal. If you want to be in the middle of the activity, Esterito. For bigger lots and pools, Centenario. Medical is great in La Paz.

Vidal Sassoon!!! OMG... For those who do not know, he was the most famous hairdresser in the 60s, 70s & 80s. Brighton, whoever did your closed captioning screwed this up big time... I had to go back and listen to figure out some things she said actually fyi. It was obviously meant for her to meet Jamie and start that school. What an amazing story. I so enjoyed Zaida's story!!!! It is so beneficial to be bilingual in Mexico for the locals especially. More of these stories please!!! 💖

Such a wonderful video with actionable suggestions. Zaida and Pastor Jamee truly exemplify what and how we can contribute during our travels. I volunteer at my local elementary school. I have previously volunteered while being a tourist in Oaxaca. This coming January and February I plan to be in La Paz. Would love to have Brighton and Kat host an Almost Retired in Mexico group get together to meet up with local service providers that are welcoming volunteers.

What a lovely story! It's great that some folks can create a "church" without too many "rules" I am not a church goer, however about 15 years ago I found a book called "The Purpose Driven Life" and before I had even read the second chapter I noticed a seminar using that book as a guideline for being more purpose driven. I went about once a week for 6 weeks or so and met some really neat people, many were professionals looking to give back to the community. I guess this story resonated with me due to that little bit. Thank you for sharing another great story! Kindness always brings such Joy!

@@AlmostRetiredinMexico Woke is when a blond blue eyed Yoga instructor gets accused of cultural appropriation for example because she isn't from India. Woke is a disease in the USA. Another example of woke is if a Ashkenasi Jewish person gets accused of cultural appropriation for selling tacos yet he is officially Mexican. Basically woke is an anti Eurocentric and anti people of European origin that exists mostly in the USA and to some extent in anglo Canada. I doubt it exists in Mexico since Mexico has a very traditional culture. Just figured I asked because La Paz is a little close yo the woke USA. Woke is always very one sided too. It is basically an anti white or anti European movement in the USA is how I would describe it. I have very Eurocentric relatives from Mexico though but haven't spoken to them in decades. I never got the impression México was woke. Just figured I asked since you are near the border of woke USA.
@Mongoose-ct6us

KZbin deleted my reply explaining what woke means to me. An example would be they accuse you of cultural appropriation for wearing a charro outfit while totally disregarding the European origins of a lot of mariachi culture. Basically wokeism is an anti white or anti European phenotype movement that exists in the USA mainly and to some extent in anglo Canada. Another example of woke is an Ashkenasi Jewish person who owns a taco stand gets accused of cultural appropriation meanwhile even though he is Jewish his nationality is Mexican because he was born in Mexico yet the woke will still not see him as Mexican because he's white. Wokeism is also very one sided. Nobody ever accuses non white people of cultural appropriation. For example if Mexicans who aren't Jewish sell bagels nobody would say they are stealing Jewish culture nor do I think they should be accused of that. I am just pointing out that wokeism is very one sided and it's basically an anti white movement from the USA. Wokeism is actually the downfall of the USA. Hopefully it doesn't spread to Mexico which still has a very traditional culture. Countries with traditional culture aren't likely yo go woke but I figured I'd ask anyway because La Paz is very close to woke USA. @@AlmostRetiredinMexico

What a wonderful lady. Even though she's from Winnipeg (lol) and yes I've been there. Wonderful people and nature that can eat you or freeze you. Sorry It's like a pastime to pick on "Windypeg" when you are from anywhere else. I could teach basic skills i.e. Driving (trucks), welding, carpentry & wiring. But these days I religiously practice being retired. And I'm trying to get good at it. On the other hand there is my wife and very best friend who was an English teacher. She runs trivia nights for the local seniors home as well as the hospital. She's on the board of directors for a teachers pension and just raised app $8 grand to by special chairs for the hospital through that teachers pension group. Her trivia nights raise thousands of dollars for the Seniors home each time. I like to fish or garden by garden I mean cut 4 acres of grass. Right now I'm rebuilding my front deck (app 8 X14 ft.) When I'm not doing that I build utility trailers. We even have deer and humming birds that literally visit. So I'm failing at my retirement lol. In short I would say if and when you can Pay it forward. Maybe in your new home town in Mexico. Another good one Mr. B. P n D
