I just lost my home and everything in it to the Lahaina fires. Lahaina felt so safe and comforting, the only place I’ve ever been able to be myself fully. This song came to me again today and it hit me all again. I don’t know if you can feel this type of longing in this song for a place but I feel it for Lahaina.

I met a lady the one time I was able to go to Hawaii. She was the mother-in-law of my wifes cousin. Saw her and talked to her for about 2 hours only. Full blooded Hawaiian. Unforgettable: her parting words " Remember, ahoha means love". 48 years ago.

This is the first song my mother taught me when I was 5 and learning to play her '62 Gibson D8 Grand Console. Her and my Dad played gospel and Hawai'ian songs at church. I really love this rendition. I knew Tia could sing, but DAMN! this was just so heartfelt. Too bad I was on a mobilization in 2008/09 when they sung this at the Grammy's, but glad I came across it while looking for Seabreeze and some other tunes.
