Drea I have to say what an awesome video ty for sharing this with us! Your plants are all lovely and you have such a great variety. Another thing I really like is that you use your plants as decor and don't just have them hidden away in a crowded cabinet like so many KZbinrs seem to do! I like to see plants that are displayed and growing using good old natural light and at times lack of natural light lol. Your passion for your plants really shows and I prefer your style compared to the ones that hoard hundreds of plants into cabinets and plant rooms all smooshed together 🤣

Janee’, I was at Aldi last week, and on the way out from the corner of my eye I saw large plants in the distance, but was trying to get back home and out of the cold!🥶🤣🤣🤣 Now, I wish I had checked out the plants. Plus, I want another peace Lily. That one you bought is HUGE!! To prevent root rot, you can add lots of pumice and orchard bark to the soil. And since Peace Lilies are such “vocal” plants, don’t water them until they begin to flop. To me, that would be a LOT of water if you go the water-only route. Good luck with your Aldi plants. They are a steal and I am so glad for you, dear.🪴🧡🪴❤️😊

Sure it's too late by now...but regarding the begonia maculata... maybe you can place a small stake in the pot and tie it back to support it in further or pull the whole cluster together leaving a lot of growth around the entire plant again

Guttation: I'm finding a happy medium with my Alocasia. If I water immediately when the soil dries, and just let it run through, it doesn't guttate. At least during the winter. My Schismatoglottis (the same as you have) has never guttate. What I was doing before, is "water well until the soil was fully moisturized" the Alocasia 1:13:04 seemed to get too much water. I'm extremely new to both plants so the learning curve is quick. Spider Mites: I've decided that a monthly leaf wash/wipe down may be really helpful. The awful cold snap we had was nerve wracking. The house got down to 60...but for the most part, my plants managed to deal with it. I did "look for you" down here when you were visityou parents and sister, but this city is so darned huge, I knew I wouldn't see you. Anyhoo...hope what I'm saying makes sense.

I have success with Watermelon peperomia in Ca. Fuller plant more light! Adapt plant Slowly to eastern direct morning(best) sunlight or filtered through curtains or shade cloth Lol in brighter location. Perfect leaves-- maintain ph 6.5 When ph is off you get deformed leaves. Once leaves are deform they stay deform, baby leaves must grow in perfect. I water and fertilize ph corrected. Plant easily rots with saturated soil. When I water I let drain completely then suck out any extra drops out of pot by sitting pot on toilet paper. Watermelon peperomia is my wishlist plant from the 80's !!!
@AlohaPlantLife2 жыл бұрын
Just curious what fertilizer you use?
@ktabktab60252 жыл бұрын
@@AlohaPlantLife I believe that the Australians success with watermelon peperomia is due indirectly to balanced ph 6.5 to 7 either by 1 fertilizing organically with fish emulsion and sea weed extract(helps root grow and prevents dormancy or slow growth)which balances the ph organically or 2 with a ph balanced Hydroponic nutrient foliage focus but any expensive ph balanced Hydroponic nutrient for cannabis here in the US would work and the way to go if you don't mind spending the money. Dynagro is cheaper and has all the nutrients but is not ph balanced and you must balance the ph yourself. I use the cheapest DIY Hydroponic mix --Master blend. 1/4 tsp calcium nitrate, 1/4 tsp miracle-gro(or any water soluble fertilizer with micros), 1/8 tsp Epsom salt in a gallon of distilled water. Since I'm to cheap to buy distilled water I use 2/3 my tap water and 1/3 rain water(this mixture give me the right ph in my area, other places may vary). I Make my own ph buffer by neutralizing vinegar with egg shells in a large container. I want excess egg shell to vinegar so that after it stops fizzing the resulting liquid is in the right ph. I add 1 Tbs of this neutralized vinegar to the 1 gallon fertilizer solution. I water my watermelon peperomia with this solution. The first watering of each month I water with just plain water to flush excess salts and fertilizer. And of course drain and sit the pot on toilet paper. Sitting the pot on something absorbent like toilet paper to suck up extra water is a life saver and absolute must after a repot when the roots are damaged. I fertilize organically lightly on top of this since I believe that organic matter helps maintain the proper ph, but the main thing is to stop watering at the wrong ph. I believe watermelon peperomia look great from the nursery because potting soil is ph adjusted but watering with water with the wrong ph will slowly change the ph of the soil in the pot thus deformed leaves:(

Love your plants! You make we want more and I have 50! Watermelon peperomia is my favorite, maybe give it another try with a new plant because yours looks sad. Only tips are well draining soil and it loves to be snug in its pot!
@lindasimmons21972 жыл бұрын
I have a Peperomia Watermelon…I found mine was getting leggy, leaves splitting and eventually dying and falling off. I knew it wasn’t a water problem so it had to be lighting. And that was it. This was going to be its last chance (I also had a Harmony’s Gold Dust Woman in the same pot). I put the pot in direct sun/part shade (south facing window), and within the past couple of weeks it has so many new GOOD leaves! I treat her like my succulents. She gets a good drink 1-2 times a month in the winter, maybe every 10 days in the summer. Now with the correct lighting she is growing.

Hi Drea! I'm new to your channel and I'm loving your content. I'm currently battling a mild to moderate spider mite infestation. I've sprayed down every. single. one of my plants with your diy pesticide and scrubbed the bejeesus out of the leaves and stems on the plants that were actually affected as far as I could tell with my handy dandy magnifying glass. I even vacuumed the walls😳I am isolating some of my plants in my gym, but it's really cold and dark in there right now. I'm wondering whether it's safe to put my plants back (particularly my huge monstera that I can't really put anywhere other than my windowless shower) if I continue to treat them weekly. I'm getting really stressed out about losing plants because they're sitting in cold, dark places and could really use some reassurance!🥺

You just have to use your best judgment as to whether you’ve got it under control yet or not. You definitely don’t want to be spreading it to more plants, that’s just going to stress you out even more.

So with Toby I just got lucky. He was already older when I started getting into plants and he really never showed in interest in messing with them. When I got Theo and George I didn’t know what to expect. Luckily George could care less about them. Theo on the other hand, knows I don’t want him messing with them so when he wants my attention he purposely goes and messes with them and will continue to do so until I give him whatever it is he wants which is highly annoying🙄 The rest of the time he doesn’t give them a second thought.

@@AlohaPlantLife I watch house plants videos on KZbin for years only now Google algorithm decided to suggest your channel to me. From the point of view of the viewer to see large array of happy plants and compare why are they so with other not so happy is extremely fast learning (plus appreciating your effort ) for about an hour and forty minutes. Fiew sentences about care would not make it too long. Yes I could dig bowels of YT for your care videos but this is not why I watched your tour. The major reason why your plants look so good is the amount of light they have in your house in my opinion. Tell Toby he is an amazing Cat and I adore him.
