I stopped playing ranked with Shen last season because it was simply impossible to get good teammates. I found myself carrying more games as Shen, than helping the hypercarry, actually carry. Shen ranked just seems like a coinflip, where you lose 75% of games, and win 25%. i really hope this season saves him!

There's no reason not to use d shield on every toplane champion right now except when your direct counter the enemy laner. Rn it's the best gold value especially compared to blade + gold and xp are now much more valuable since all items are less cost efficient now so you want to stay and last hit in lane as long as possible. Even lolaytics stats say that D shield has a higher avg wr than ring and blade. Play d shield together with green rune to cheat out sustain. Ofc shen being sleeper OP w 2 adaptive and blade is an exception just like counter laning
