I think the translation for that word would be genuine happiness for the other person. Authentically genuine

G-d is slow to anger and rich in love. On a lighter note, in Shtisel father and son talk about Nachman and there being no dispair.

Thank you for your lectures. They are inspiring and illuminating. May I respectfully submit: the word "LeFargen", פארגנטער, is not Hebrew, it is Yiddish. I am not aware of a true Hebrew translation for it. In English the word is to congratulate. It sounds unsatisfactory because of the perfunctory way in which the word is often used today. However to congratulate means to rejoice in, that is, to express joy in, the achievement of another. Other words that could be used would be to commend, to laud, to extol (fairly outdated) or to praise. All come close, but none of these really express joy. Hope that helps!

לפרגן to be vicariously happy. Vicarious. Vicarious is when a person lives through someone else’s experience in their imagination.

I think Bqlak was intimidated by the size of Hashems people. He was afraid they would take over the area. He had Balaam look at their size more than once from different angles of the land to make him visually see the size of the tribes. And I'm pretty sure jealousy played a part? But mostly he felt threatened and wanted to eliminate what he considered an enemy of his kingdom. Someone he was afraid would take over.
