If Budapest is Hungary’s heart, then her soul lies in the Great Plain, where centuries of history have shaped her character. Historically, this region became the final destination for many nomadic peoples migrating westward from Inner and Central Asia towards Europe. Mostly barren and dry, the Great Plain spans over half of Hungary. The term 'Puszta' was coined to describe the vast grasslands of this expansive region.

ABOUT ME:
In 2013, I started my solo travel journey, leaving Indonesia in 2016 to become a full-time traveller and KZbin creator. My background in International Relations has fueled a profound interest in exploring different countries. My content focuses on exploring different cultures through the lens of a solo female traveller, aiming to capture real-life interactions and experiences.
My travels kicked off with a five-month trip across Asia, after which I moved to China in January 2017 to work as an English teacher-my first time living abroad. I left China in 2018 to fully commit to creating videos on KZbin, where I share my travels and the cultures I encounter.
Living nomadically since 2016, I settled in England in early 2022 after marrying my British husband, David. Now based in the UK, I continue to travel and share my adventures on KZbin.

I am glad that there is a tourist who shows not only Budapest, I hope you saw the 9-hole bridge in Hortobágy, I hope you get to Szeged, the Szeged cathedral is there. Don't miss Visegrád, the city of Eger, the Danube Bend, visit Héviz if you like the thermal bath, it's a very beautiful lake, Google will show you them, I'm waiting for the next experience report, and welcome to our place! :-)

I was born in eastern Hungary and raised in the suburbs of Debrecen. Hortobágy has a special place in my heart for some reason :) The way you presented the unique nature of the eastern side of hungary is absolutely fantastic! :) Have a great time in Hungary! :)

The video part at 18:59 about trains is taken in Szeghalom, the town where I lived during my childhood, it was very good feeling to see it in your video. I was also glad to see Debrecen and Békéscsaba because these were the "big cities" for me as a child, we went to these cities quite often. The whole video has a very good vibe, you have a very good sense of contacting people, thank you for the whole Hungarian series.

It was nice to see again how easily you can charm people with your kindness and cheer vibes. In Hungary people normally don't chat too much with strangers on buses and trains. Not because they aren't kind or because they are introverts. It's just a cultural thing rooted deeply in our society. Maybe that's why it is so nice to see your openness towards Hungarian locals and to experience how your kind approach and positive vibes make them open up and get chatty. This is a gift and I truly believe you bring a fresh and much needed change into anyone's life you get in touch during your travelling. So I really enjoyed the part where you met that girl on the bus to Békéscsaba - you two seemed to be soul mates 😉

Hey Syifa, I am Hungarian and was absolutely fascinated by this video. As an introvert person it was amazing to see you interacting with my fellow Hungarians, and to see your open-minded and curious approach towards our culture and people. What one usually gets from travel videos about Hungary is 'lángos' and 'goulash' and the (really spectacular) building of Pairlament, but this video really is something else. The world is filled with wonderful places and wonderful people, and you have just showed us that the real wonder and magic can be found anywhere in the world if we are open to embrace it. As to the Great Hungarian Plain, I always thought that there is some 'wild west' feeling to it. Especially, in the 19th century there were the 'betyár' (outlaws), and there are many songs and legends about their deeds. For example about the famous outlaw, 'Sándor Rózsa'. And a sunset in Hortobágy can be very similar to a sunset in the African savannah, but unfortunately we have no cheetahs or elephants, just birds and various livestock:) Anyway, your personality is charming and amazing and wishing you all the best discovering our world.

Hortobágy, the Great Plain is a very fascinating steppe in real life, that your video failed to mirror, but that's normal. I loved the mystique of it, the absolute loneliness. you are doing a great job travelling places, 99.9% of the tourists wouldn't even touch. Anything east of the river Tisza is actually protestant, apart from the very catholic Szeged. I travelled all my life on my own, backpacking. Never had any insurance but then I was lucky: never needed any. are you doing west of Hungary as well?

Hi! I'm starting to respect you more and more. Carrying out such a journey is no small thing. Outside of the tourist areas, you rarely see foreigners here. Cities with universities are, of course, exceptions. The usual additional information: 3:14 Russian-made motor train. Originally, it was also red-grey, but it was repainted blue due to the desire for a uniform design. During the communist era, the Soviet Union accumulated debts towards Hungary. This was repaid with these motor trains. They are similar to the Budapest metro, not by chance. Both were manufactured by the same company. That is why it was also called the "pusta metro" at one time. 4:18 the iconic animal of Hortobágy is the gray cattle. 4:34 the name of the color of the horse with a white spot on its forehead is star. The communist past can be discovered in many places in Hungary. E.g.: the 8-10-storey tower blocks used as apartments, public sculptures. The Békéscsaba bus station is also such a building. There is a similar one at the Budapest Déli railway station. It performs operational functions.

Hortobagy is not traditionally dry . On the contrary, Hortobagy was very wet, swampy ... until 1846. I think you have seen the big river, Tisza - the Tisza and the tributaries of the Tisza spilled out of their beds every year 1-2 times and flooded 80-90% of the Hortobagy ...State started to control the Tisza river in 1846 - after it the Hortobagy became such a dry area.

...this has been such a treat, Syifa, a countryside trip through eastern Hungary - loved it!! And the way you bump into the perfect encounters is just stunning, right from the beginning, with Bela the 'horse whisperer'. He has an amazing energy of love and peace around him... and you can see how relaxed and cared-for the animals were behaving... when he said, that they are just like us, but without thinking, I got goosebumps... ...then off to Debrecen (never heard of it, and its the 2nd biggest town in Hungary - I feel embarrassed)... such a relaxed flair... I'd be happy to study there! And the 3 African students were so sweet, and looked quite relaxed and happy - what an atmosphere right in the centre of town (with the best coffee shop)! And then on the (air-conditioned) busride to Doboz, you met Katica, right next to your seat!!. You really looked and felt like sisters!! And the super-sweetest moment of the whole video was, when the two of you stood at the station, and didn't want to let go of another, just beaming at each other (and the camera) and not stopping giggling!! 😃😄 I think one of the things that kept me off visiting Hungary is, that the language is so different, that I would have felt easily isolated and lost. But today thats no longer a point, as you show with your direct translation device - awesome!! And this countryside trip also proves again, how people have more time, and are more open there - its so much easier to get in contact, than in the big cities. I can only repeat: I enjoyed this video so, so much! Thank you, Syifa! 😍⭐🌍
