Oh my goodness. I played this back in the day, and talk about jump scares!

the atmosphere and immersion was pretty ground breaking for the early 90s. I can't remember if I played it on the 286-16 or 486DX33 but the animations at full speed were incredibly smooth for the time which made the combat and deaths scenes feel far more visceral despite the somewhat weird and angular graphics. It also goes without saying that resident evil was heavily inspired by the alone in the dark with some of the scenes being seemingly homages to the earlier game.

I'd have been so jealous in '92, as I couldn't get this to run on my IBM PS1 back then. It ran Midwinter and Armour Geddon, which had more polygons, so never understood why it wouldn't boot Alone In The Dark.

I remember the game. It was very atmospheric and one of the first "3d games"

We are so spoiled these days. Imagine not being able to put all graphic settings up to max with ray tracing on because you don't have an rtx4090, the pain..!

I never heard that before, that's perfect. Lands of Lore comes to mind. I had so much fun with that game, and part 2 as well. I recently watched someone stream it. Long forgotten areas and items kept bringing back feelings. Nostalgia!
