"My job isn't hard. It's important, and it's complicated, but it's not hard. Usually everything is quiet; I can watch the snow fall and the birds weaving through the trees. I'm mostly here in case something goes wrong... but we all did our jobs when we built this place, and besides a little nudge or double check from time to time, things don't really go wrong. This little control station where I spend the winters is like a monastery - a temple to the quiet, the solitude, the purpose, the vigilance to be a guiding hand that keeps vital things flowing like smooth water. I have my thoughts and the wind and the snow and the silence and it's perfect. My relatives ask me 'how can you spend those months alone?' They don't understand. I'm not alone - the world flows through me like a river. There is nowhere, no time, where I am more alive or at peace."

The fact that I'm not the only one who finds an inexplicable feeling of comfort and calm in an ambient like this brings me hope that I'm not alone... Thank you for uploading this stuff, it hits something deep inside of me that I can't explain. EDIT have you considered creating an outpost in an open space without any forest? To me, tree-less landscapes inspire raw emotions that fit these atmospheres very well

"You're the new guy, right? Made it through training, that's good... first shift flying solo? Shit, hope you brought something to keep you busy. It can get pretty brutal up there without something to do. I... know they probably told you this already, but... don't worry if you start talking to yourself after a week or two. It's the isolation that makes you start, I think. Most of us do it. And remember, if you hear someone responding to you - even if you're sure it was just your imagination - press the green button. Just like they taught you in training. Oh, and make sure you call in your meal orders on time, or else you'll have to eat the prepackaged stuff that's in the fridge. It ain't bad, but it ain't good either."
