Love it! Just watched the whole series and I'm completely astonished by the Mississippi river region and it's culture! I always have been curious about the American culture, specially by the Deep South. When the quarantine is over and things get better economically in my country, I surely will pay a visit to your country, and maybe make a road trip through the South. Greetings from Brazil!

I'd stay out of the south, Mississippi is the most racist state in the country. Elvis presley stole music from black people, he was far from the king of rock and roll, sister Rosetta Thorpe actually invented rock n roll sound. They are famous racist of violence against ppl of color in Mississippi, like Jim Crow, The church bombings, Emitt Till, Mississippi Burning, and thousands more stories.

What's amazing about Mark Twain isn't just that he was a riverboat captain, but that he decided to become one at about age 14, and he tells the whole story in his book "Life On The Mississippi" which is free online. It's a hell of a story, as with all of his books.

Elvis had a big place in Hawaii overlooking shark's cove on the north shore of Oahu. We used to go by his place all the time, going up and down the hill and we asked my mom who this guy was, and it seemed he was a musician and also a movie star, which was pretty confusing. And for guitars, well, some like Gibson, some like Fender, Gretsch, Martin, there's no one best.

Fun Fact: Mark Twain is really Samuel Clemens. Suto names were used heavily during those times.
@seadog915
@seadog915 4 жыл бұрын
Another fun fact, the term "Mark Twain" means 2 fathoms (deep) of water. On the river they would use a line with a weight on the end and a knot every 6 feet.A fathom is 6 ft. and he was a steamship Pilot for a while before his writing career. That meant it was deep enough for your boat & I guess he liked the sound of that!

I'm surprised that there's no mention of the New Madrid Fault and the Great earthquakes of 1811 &1812 which caused the river to flow backwards

My question remains, Why this city still in old days? The building and everything looks from 50 or 60 years ago. While America is transformed beyond our minds, this city still there why?

No wonder the river is so sick. Dredging like that all the time has to be killing it. I understand the economy of it, but the ecosystem is screaming.
