One of the great things about this show was it extensive use of hit songs and song writers to create the perfect atmosphere for the scene. This scene for example use almost the whole song for this scene alone. Nowadays that would cost the production a huge percentage of the daily budget in copyright fees just to attempt for just one song. Thats one reason why a great TV show like this will probably never happen again😞

Phil is multi talented but hasn't had the fanfare or recognition he deserves. A superb drummer, singer, songwriter, actor, and all round effortless genius.

I got this series on dvd for Christmas last year and just now got around to watching it. The way Tubbs is sitting at Castillo's desk with the dark sunglasses on is very well done and you can tell that he's still struggling emotionally from what happened, and then for extra moving effect, Long Long Way To Go kicks in. I love all the tiny bits of attention to detail here, Castillo checking his watch at 0:58 to make sure they leave for the funeral on time, Crockett lingering just outside the door at 1:01 waiting for Tubbs and how everybody walks out of the squad room together and how whoever the other detective is briefly puts his hand on Tubbs's back for a few minutes. The sheer audacity of Orlando Calderone sending flowers to the funeral made me angry for Tubbs's sake. For once, Zito and Switec weren't messing around or pulling pranks, they were there to support Tubbs.

MIAMI VICE debuted when I was 12, so I grew up on it. It introduced me to Phil Collins - one of my favorite singers - as well as many of the great recording artists of the 80's. I remember the final episode being so sad for us, because my friends and I knew it was the end of an era. Miami Vice ended just as we graduated high school, so it was truly the end of a great era.

There one thing I love about Miami Vice. The endings were seldom happy endings. It always have a sense of loss somewhere in the plot. The soundtracks were flooded with great music artists of the day.

Miami Vice defined my teenage years. It was THE show at the right place and at the right time. Everything about it was perfect. It was light years ahead of anything else back then and there hasn't been anything like it since. I doubt we'll ever see another ground breaking and game changing series that had such an impact on so many lives across the world.

There has not been a show like this since it came out. The music and the direction in these episodes says it all. We, as people are still talking about this show in 2021. That is how good the show is. We are still talking about it, today.

That scene and song is anbsolutely overwhelming! Born in 76 my parents haven't allowed me to watch the greatest series of all time. After the intro I had to go to bed. Damn I love the intros roto- tom arrangement so much...they are the reason why I became a drummer in the end. Miami Vice and all of its music will be in my heart and soul forever.

Jan Hammer is amazing, that roto tom is notorious lol i watch the series now with a good sound system and its fun to hear all the drum, bass and guitar work, had a reggae vibe too in alot of his music 🙂

Nothing screams the 1980's, more than "Miami Vice" and the soundtrack from that television show featuring the vocals of Mr Phillip Collins...I'm 53 years old and had lived the eighties as a teenager. Boy, do I miss that decade...

This is my favorite TV show. Can't believe how meaningful every scene was. Every frame is a separate piece of art. Every scene is built in a way that is deep and says a lot about the characters and situation. Every character is multi-dimensional and interesting. This is how TV should be done!
@PlanetBlake4 жыл бұрын
This episode, "Sons and Lovers", was one of the best, if not the best, episode of the series. Plus, one of the best scene-to-song matches of the series with this Phil Collins song leading up to the funeral. The note to Tubbs at the end with the words , " I'll be back", was the cherry on top of a great episode.
@blackspider1405 Жыл бұрын
Phil Collins.. everything he did in the 80s (solo and with Genesis) assured he could take it easy and tour every few years. Why bother with new albums? Pretty much everything he did in the 80s worked. I just played this a couple of days ago. It's timeless. Perfect.
