FILM DESCRIPTION:
Young Keda tries to survive alone in the wilderness after he's left for dead during his first hunt with his Cro-Magnon tribe. He soon forms an unlikely alliance with a lone wolf that was abandoned by its pack. Facing overwhelming odds and nonstop danger, Keda and the wolf must now trek through a harsh and unforgiving landscape to make it home before winter.

There’s quite a few Palaeolithic figurines that show the type of clothing that people wore during that times, and it’s typically a sewn garment much like the parkas of the Inuit. Grave sites also reveal that these garments were often beautifully decorated with beads and shells. The backpack idea is also more or less accurate, as it’s just a bag Keda’s carrying on his back. The famous iceman, Ötzi, was found with a backpack that was supported with a wooden frame. Going back further than the 5,300-year-old iceman, it’s been discovered that some of the aforementioned Palaeolithic figurines are shown with the lines of a backpack carved upon their backs.

Basically yea. U gotta keep in mind a dog is just a domesticated wolf. And a lone wolf is easier to calm and be friendly since they are all alone. U just have to be very careful when doing so. Which in this movie he was.
