I backed in 2.6.2, and it's BONKERS what it's turned into. I used to just think it was fun to take off from Oliver, fly around, and land. Just being able to walk around my ship and stuff was amazing. This new stuff, even if some of it is broken, is mindboggling. I'm not much of a gamer or anything, but I can't stay away from this damned thing for too long, real life be damned!

If you haven't played Karnage Chronicles, you should check it out. It released in 2020, but it's still the game I load when I'm showing VR to someone who's never played before. Up to 4 player co-op.

The non PvP'ers that have been in the PTU have had nothing good to say about it. Components hidden behind PvP. A abandoned "wasteland" that also, *somehow*, has resources more valuable than Quantanium. People unable to complete the simplest mission because areas are camped, or their landed ships get destroyed within minutes. Players who have been waiting for years for a new system can't do or explore anything, while PvP'ers tell everyone to "Stay in Stanton". I'm not excited, or optimistic.

Sadlly that's just the reality of video gamers. I'm horrible at PvP but I'll just make friends with PvPers to be my bodyguards. But I'm not a gamer, I'm more an explorer, RPer, and someone who wants to do support rather than front line gameplay.

The moment you offer subscriptions to play something, I think you can't really say you have a service 'in alpha' anymore. The players are paying to play, the service is 'live'.

To be fair they did make it sound like sq42 was 6 months out in 2016(this is also when they got me to pledge) right before they rolled it back to square one for new tech. I think they could say it's early access but to me I think there are still 2 core tech pieces out standing that would be where I would put the goal for out of alpha and that's dynamic meshing and starsim(quantum)

Bored, I have had the Quest 1, 2 and 3 and play coop with my brother and sister. They just added coop to green hell which is great and on sale. Dungeons of Eternety is amazing in coop. Demeo is coop and tabletop D&D style game, super fun. Just to name a few.

4.0 really does seem to be the patch thats going to turn SC into a daily playable game. Up till now its been a bit of a drop in drop out experience for a few weeks at a time. I think its probably fair for them to start pushing it as early access even though its is really still a definite alpha. Look at World of Tanks for example, it was still officially in beta for many many years.

I think that until you stop having the chance to fall through the floor at any moment that it can be considered an alpha. Even minecraft in early alpha was more solid when it comes to problems like that. When they say the push to 1.0 the way I read it is as the push to beta 1.0 rather than full complete game 1.0 release (and I know that's what they think they mean), which is probably another 40 years away at this rate in my eyes.

Escape from Tarkov has been in early access since 2016 and still considered early access to this day. I dont see SC being full release for a good while and will be a live service early access game

nah in no way 4.0 is gonna be the last major update. i think 1.0 is so far away that there is time for other major updates and optimizations

I think that everything before the 3.2x series was basically varying levels of "tech demo" and not really an "alpha game". The current builds feel more like "Alpha" to me. Beta... we'll have to see 4.0 but honestly, considering how games are released now Beta quality would probably be fine as long as they No-Mans-Sky the thing. But one thing I'm interested in is 1.0 being the actual gameplay and mechanics. Right now, none of the mechanics we've been playing with are even remotely quality enough for the type of game CIG is shooting for. I have a feeling that is purely by design. Also I'm kind of hoping the people who spent a fortune on the game (for themselves and not for an org) learning very sharply that they aren't going to be able to use their investment to just *win* as a player. Its going to be interesting to see how CR deals with it - considering how much he hates spoilers and how much he wants players to enjoy his game. Will he cater to the people who throw money at him, or will he cater to the player who just buys a $45 package? I think if he caters to the $45 package owner it will play VERY well to the future of the game.

Just bear in mind this thing is going to be EXTREMELY broken and buggy, and many major features originally promised were cut. Essentially we’re getting another empty system and wormholes with a new ship and minor updates and a very broken server meshing still that sees minimal to no performance improvement. Given they won’t be back until February if this goes live at the end of the year, don’t expect a fix for it for awhile as well
