@dynamicworlds15 жыл бұрын
@@Nerobyrne hey, authors can write all the erotica they want without much judgement from me. Even some of the very dark stuff out there can be turned into....let's call it "inspiration for consentual fantasy play" and even the stuff that can't people generally have a better time seperating erotic fantasies from reality (especially with half-way decent sex-ed). It's the _romanticizing_ of abusive behavior where I start to have problems, and while it is far from contained specifically to romance novels and/or dirrected at women, that is a big source of it and does a lot of harm. If someone has an unrealistic view of sex but a healthy understanding of relationships, that problem can be talked through. If someone has an unhealthy understanding of relationships....well, you're not going to bang that problem out in the bedroom. (Also, consent and extreme abuse don't really coexist, so...)

Make sure that, whenever the alpha male does something horrible, their romantic partner calls them out on it, only for her to be overcome with lust. After they f***, make sure that she gives up on the argument, because, you know, he had a hard childhood. Don’t forget to make them get engaged after they knew each other for a grand total of 1 month and have the characters dismiss any suggestions at the possibility that they’re moving too fast. Finally, remember that character development is difficult, so, instead of the alpha hero actually changing throughout the course of the book (as the female protagonist is “fixing him”), just have characters say that there’s been character development, despite there being little to no change in their behaviour

@@Adventurewizard44 Yea they are meant for the readers to project themselves onto. The idea is that they are "Hollywood-ugly", as in, because they are usually so QUIRKY and DIFFERENT they don't know how to carry themselves well so they look plain and boring like most readers probably think of themselves. But if the power of falling in love thrusts them into self-optimizing mode or their new love interests gifts them pretty things, they show unexpected beauty and glam up. There's also a ton of other stuff interwoven with that, like the fact that ignorance of one's charmes still is considered a positive trait, because a woman who is pretty and knows it and possible acts accordingly is considered an evil manipulator. The likeable protagonist can't be like that, they must think they are normal or below average while all the side characters constantly praise how stunning she actually is. Considering romance is mostly women writing for other women, it's ridiculous how much we stick to dumb, kinda toxic old-fashioned views on women.

You forgot the LOVE TRIANGLE where two hot sexy guys fight over the girl! Seriously i hate love triangles, they are so rarely done right and it is absurd in how many times a dude is literally made and designed to appeal to the girl to spice up the triangle.
@lexa23105 жыл бұрын
Or in Anime. Where it is mostly the other way around. Honestly, why do we need them? Is it just to have a stupid reason to insert more sexy characters for the fan base? Or are people just unable to write 2 people in a relationship without adding artificial drama?

The third wheel is only a male of it's a YA novel. In other novels (or films) the third wheel is the sudden reappearance of the alpha males sexier ex in the third act.

In these fantasies the Love Triangle is... mostly just there to hype up the Alpha. No really, I've seen a LOT of love triangles in these but they never EVER approach being a legitimate romantic rival. (Jacob, while people liked him... was never even shown to be a legit possibility for Bella)

It should be the popular opinion because it's true. No matter what it is, sex sells. It always does. You can have zero effort on anything, as long as you're good at describing how hot a character is you'll get reads.
