In a historic move, Alphabet Inc. (GOOG, GOOGL) has announced it's first-ever $70 billion share repurchase program and quarterly dividend. The dividend, set at $0.20 per share, will be distributed to eligible shareholders on June 17, 2024.

I feel investors should be focusing on under-the-radar stocks, and considering the current rollercoaster nature of the stock market, Because 35% of my $270k portfolio comprises of plummeting stocks which were once revered and i don't know where to go here out of devastation.

Safest approach i feel to tackle it is to diversify investments. By spreading investments across different asset classes, like bonds, real estate, and international stocks, they can reduce the impact of a market meltdown. its important to seek the guidance of an expert.

A lot of folks downplay the role of advlsors until being burnt by their own emotions. I remember couple summers back, after my lengthy divorce, I needed a good boost to help my business stay afloat, hence I researched for licensed advisors and came across someone of utmost qualifications. She's helped grow my reserve notwithstanding inflation, from $275k to $850K.

I don't think it says anything about Google other than they realize that a lot of mutual funds can only invest in companies that pay out dividends. So google basically added a pretty meaningless dividend just to qualify. . I own a company called NAT that has a 13% dividend.. they run oil tankers and have a ton of money coming in, but really don't have much of a way to use it except occasionally adding a tanker to their fleet.. so basically every quarter they return most of their profits to shareholders.

NAT is so 2020. I got outta that so fast. Everyone knows that dividends = no growth prospects. Who cares about a handful of mutual funds if you're on the verge of dominating a particular market? I'd rather that Google cancel their dividends and pump those pennies into R&D.

Hello, I need some advice. I work 2 jobs to support my family, and I am selling many personal possessions to try to get to a single Bitcoin. I am battling debt, how do you make such in few days? Is there any way to make money from cryptocurrency trading?...

I've been talking to Andras Bohm consultant, for long now, mostly because I lack the knowledge and energy to deal with these ongoing market circumstances. there are more aspects of the market than the average individual is aware of. Having an investing counselor is now the best line of action, especially for those who are close to retiring..

All this means is that Google is out of ideas. Instead of innovating, they have to appease shareholders by traditional financial manoeuvring. In other words, Google has topped out.

Not really, the dividend is so low that it obviously is something they worked out with some wall street firms. Many mutual funds have strict rules, and many can't buy a stock unless it has a dividend. That is pretty obviously what this is about. The $70b buyback is more of what you said. They simply don't see anywhere they can invest that money that would grow the business significantly. I would rather see a buyback than some risky acquisition.

@@PeterSedesse So you're basically saying what I said "... they have to appease shareholders by traditional financial manoeuvring". When Google first hit the scene, they were lauded as an innovator, brimming with ideas. Today, they are the next Yahoo in the making. Their share price can continue to grow for some time by leveraging financial mechanisms. But if search, android and their various other services are maxed out... without new ideas, it's just a matter of time before they're relegated to history. In spirit, it should have been them to bring AI to the forefront... But now we'll have to see if they can keep pace.

@@goldeneastgun I'm not as pessimistic. Google is spending a ton on capex related to AI. But even still they have $110 billion in cash on hand and search and KZbin keep it just piling in. So what to do with all that money. You also need to keep in mind that msft, meta, Amazon and Google have a ton of scrutiny by the govt if they try to buy any major company. Not like Google can buy Adobe or TikTok. Google has a responsibility, if they can't find an effective way to use that money, to return the value to shareholders. I think if they weren't spending a ton on AI that you would be right.

Microsoft started paying dividends in 2003. I think it’s safe to say they didn’t top out in 2003…

Look at other big techs, most of them pay out a [small] dividend. Can you really make a point saying that Apple, microsoft, meta, NVDA are “out of ideas” from what they have been doing? Paying out an appropriate amount not only doesn’t interrupt their business operations or hinder ideas generation, it’s a great financial tool to drive shareholder values (in addition to buybacks) through higher adoptions into other funds. Numerous companies with great innovative ideas because of the lack of execution; this includes executing the financial methods, so please don’t disregard this. Operationally, maintaining a healthy dividends also keeps management in-check for their innovative ideas, so any projects they want to work on must be seriously vested, and it has nothing to do with them being “out of ideas”. Google doing dividends is the best-bang-for-your-buck move to immediately improve the values of shareholders, who are Googl’s primary ‘clients’ whose main focus is capital return.
