I'm wondering if the events of the game are some sort of hallucination based on an interaction with her medication. I noticed she drinks grapefruit juice when she opens the safe, grapefruit juice interacts with a number of different medications. The most common effect is increasing the amount of bioavailable medication in the blood, leading to a potential overdose. However, when it comes to MAOI antidepressants, grapefruit juice (among other foods high in tyramine) will cause severe increases in blood pressure and confusion.

Tragedy aside, the monster becomes somewhat amusing if you picture it as just a really aggressive interior (re)decorator given it becomes clear rather quickly it's not physically a threat. I do appreciate the lack of scare chord jumpscares though.

When i was a kid in the 80s, i watched an episode of Buck Rogers in the 21st century where they had laser dot vampires that could slip under the door. After that, when i was going to sleep, i was always worried about the laser dot vampire, i think i'd had a nightmare or something, and i was fretful. i always made sure i had my koala teddy bear on one side and my cat on the other when i went to sleep. As an adult, it seems a bit cold because i'm reasonably sure the principle was if the laser dot vampire did happen to rock up, getting in under the door, one of those two would be the first to fall prey whichever side it came from, giving me time to escape.

@@mothratemporalradio517 as a kid, I had night terrors of the green goo from Monster Blood for Breakfast. Something about it being a amorphous glob of something caused me to be absolutely horrified. I almost expected the last call to be "Hi, Simon here. Were there any calls for me?"
@pyrosnineActual2 жыл бұрын
The main issue is the phone call made little sense for how old Simon was...and the grown scary man made no sense nor tied into the whole "eaten by wolves thing". Obviously, it's some sort of drug-based nightmare from taking antidepressants and doesn't have to be logical, but it makes the bloody text and the pieces of paper meaningless fluff. If the story was that it was an adult woman and Simon was her husband or her partying brother who died in an accident, it'd make more sense. Maybe was a crazy party guy who had a bunch of friends- and thus she was used to a lot of calls for Simon? So then when he dies from something stupid- he drank too much and fell asleep outside, and she went to bed early, he died of exposure and she feels guilty about it, and the endless but innocent phone calls from Simon's friends who aren't in the know have been driving her insane with grief.
@CrowSkeleton2 жыл бұрын
Honestly, most explanations would make more sense than "eaten by wolves"...
@TheSquareOnes2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the whole game seemed like generic nonsense but the "explanation" in the first ending actually made it outright stupid. It's sad how lazy some horror game designers can be, this is literally nothing but atmosphere and story yet somehow they forgot to work on either of them. If it were some casual freeware project that would be one thing but apparently this is a $5 game, not expensive but I can't imagine not feeling ripped off for that amount when it was barely interesting enough to watch in a half hour video.
@CrowSkeleton2 жыл бұрын
See, I like the furnace guy's implication that this woman is suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning and has neither a son called Simon nor a pack of feral Chippendales in her house. The meds being just ADHD/anxiety meds would be a hell of a twist.

There's some potential in there. The sound design wasn't bad, the atmosphere for the most part. The story was as bare bones as it gets, it wasn't long before it became very obvious, and then a very rushed ending.

The beginning definitely was the strongest part of this game since it still seemed plausible, home invasion as a theme can be hella scary. However once it turned into a fully paranormal scenario it lost its touch and became rather predictable.

@Ricky The Davis Johnson Its fair to say that after the monster became an unanimated standing man the game's tension went away, maybe if you've played fewer games like this but this is a standard amateur horror game.
@MusicoftheDamned2 жыл бұрын
Yeah. This isn't a bad, but after that, it becomes rather clear the "monster" is more there to torment this person than an actual threat you have to flee from. Granted, that already seemed obvious given how low your "sprint" speed is, provided ABG was even actually using it.

There's some really good atmosphere here but like most walking simulators all the fear falls away fast when you realize you're in no real danger, to the point that it starts to get funny. Still a fantastic effort tho. I loved the first hiding one, and the bit where the house was full of them but then there was that gargoyle thing. Great ideas there. Tho one thing that got me was that Simon was just a little kid if we're going from the photo but the people calling for him sounded way older. Also, the backrooms ending felt too soup d'jour to take seriously.
