I do not support veganism and the ethical side seems even more ridiculous to me. I don’t agree in torture but I do agree in taking an animals life to nourish mine and I respect the animal for that. There are a lot of nutrients lacking in plant food as to animal products, all nutrients are readily available in animal products, you cannot say the same for plants. Animal products provide a great amount of cholesterol too which is a bonus. Let’s see how many people attack me for praising cholesterol and how cholesterol is the prime cause for clogging up your arteries

I’m by no means an expert on the topic, but I’m pretty sure that the nutrients that are lacking in plant based foods can be found in supplements. @GutsToCuts7 жыл бұрын
Much respect bro; this will convince people to look into it more even if you personally don't go 100% vegan; so this will defintley have a postive impact. In fact, you talked about plant-based eating before which got me to research it and I ended up being 100% vegan after researching it more. I can't agree with the "I'll eat a cake with an egg in it, though" argument and there are two reasons why. Let's compare it to something else immoral, so you can understand through parallel reasoning. 1. "I agree that slavery is immoral, but when I go over to a friend's place, I'll utilize the slave's services." 2. I don't think there is waste by not using an egg in a cake or whatever it is, the chef/cook just wouldn't use the egg BUT even if you could argue the egg goes in the trash anyway, the simple fact that the business had to throw that egg away convinces the business that what they are serving is not what the customers want. If I'm a business that offers vegan cakes and non-vegan cakes and I can't sell non-vegan cakes, I'm gonna make more vegan cakes! Veganism is essentially a boycott; you vote with your dollar.
@WilliamAstromAW7 жыл бұрын
GutsToCuts Well as im sure you realize slavery is not the same as meat eating, i understand what you’re saying and i agree with the you vote with your dollar argument. That being said not all meat or eggs are done in a factory in the immoral way so equating it with slavery just because factory farmed meat is basically animal slavery is not honest

@GutsToCuts7 жыл бұрын
William Åström I’m not saying it’s the same as slavery bro, there’s a reason I prefaced it with “let’s compare it to something else immoral, so you can understand through parallel reasoning.” It is to demonstrate the flawed logic in his argument about eggs in cake by using something we know is immoral so that it is easily understood why the logic doesn’t make sense.
@WilliamAstromAW7 жыл бұрын
Fair enough but still you're equating dairy and meat eating in and of itself as immoral which im saying it doesnt have to be. But then again what some classify as moral and justified is in some peoples eyes immoral so i think that is the problem that the vegan community has yet to tackle

The worst part that people often seem to neglect is refined carbohydrates, so many people walk around not knowing that they're allergic to certain foods, especially foods containing gluten and more people are allergic than you may think. There's multiple cases where individuals with rheutamoid arthiris (autoimmune disease) made the decision to totally cut ref carbs, and the symptoms went away, skin cleared up, slept better, stopped snoring. Dietrelated inflammation is imo one of the most underlooked things.

Dairy is an absolute miracle for a lot of Europeans(and people of European decent), but most people are actually naturally lactose intolerant. Access and tolerance of dairy products has at times been the difference between life and death for some. Because of this "natural" selection a lot of Europeans carry the genes necessary to tolerate dairy. Northern Europeans in particular. But even among white people it's still very many who feel discomfort from dairy. Dairy tolerance exists everywhere, but it's less common depending on where you go. I consider dairy a clean food for those who digest it without issue. Good ratio of whey and casein protein and it's incredibly cheap. Whole milk has a lot of good micronutrients and the extra calories isn't an issue for me. I don't get any extra mucus from it either. It also hydrates you like any other liquid would.

To date, there is no convincing scientific evidence that vegans are overall healthier, or live longer, than omnivores (at least those who get sufficient micronutrients in their diet and avoid excessive saturated and trans fat). It's also worth noting that plants and bacteria are sentient beings too. I do agree, however, that our environmental impact should be minimized (this goes for vegan diets too) and that the animals we consume should be treated humanely and killed as painlessly as possible.

I think on your ethical argument, it may still be a bit flawed as there really are no instances where the animal lives a long life before death for consumption. Especially in cows, the older the cow gets, the more gamey and unappealing the meat becomes. On overpopulation, that scenario would never really happen in a proper environment where the natural animal hierarchy occurs.
@matthewk17 жыл бұрын
Also on the honey example, there’s always agave. The steak once a year example also isn’t realistic as if you were already committed to not eating meat period, it’s unlikely you’d eat that steak, even once a year.

Nice message, man. Thanks for putting out that positive energy. Just some food for thought: suffering for the sake of food is no different than suffering for the sake of clothing, or any product. Just because something is easy does not make it right. Living convenient life does not make it a good life. But we all certainly wish that the easy choices in life were/are the right ones. Keep on keeping on
@SacredSkill7 жыл бұрын
Definitely agree with your points on both ethics and health. One comparison is smoking a cigarette once a year, yes it's unhealthy, but will it have any effect on you? Also, on vegan clothing, it's not as expensive as you make it out to be, and most likely cheaper than the animal based alternatives. It's not unethical to keep animal based clothing though it most definitely is to continue buying it.

100% agree. Great video. My wife and I only eat meat or fish that we have caught or that I have hunted. Which is not a lot. We probably have me every couple weeks off of a deer or smaller game or fish that we caught every couple weeks. I just feel that it makes every time you do consume an animal that you have a memory of it and are conscious of what you're doing

The thing about animal products is bioaccumulation... all these chemical and dioxins, accumulate in the tissue of the animals that eat them.. when you’re eating a plant you’re eating it with the toxins that it was contaminated with, but with animals you’re eating all of the toxins that the animal ate concentrated in its tissues.. eating animal products is much worse than plants .. bioaccumulation look it up

Me being a ranch worker, we have always raised our cattle very ethically, because the happier the animal and an animal that is well fed and treated properly is going to taste better anyway. I couldn't give up eating meat, but have been basing my diets around vegetables aside from proteins. I also agree with you about alternative protein sources though like nuts and legumes. I definitely eat more vegetables over proteins just for the satiation factor alone, and have been trying to get my meat consumption down to 2-3 days per week in one meal per day, I eat alot of oatmeal with natural ground peanut butter it my favorite breakfast! And focus on eating foods that my body digest quick and proper, because me being 6'7" 260lbs diet is a very tricky subject for me to get the proper protein to gain muscle or just keep from losing muscles cause I can lose ten lbs in a nights sleep so I do rely on milk and why products also casein and other slow digested proteins to stay satiated and keep my muscle from deteriorating or catabolizing. My go to protein though is free range turkey, beef from my butcher/or from reputable sources people I know who raise there animals well or I buy my own steers. Hardly ever to I buy meats from a chain grocery store.

AlphaDestiny I like your concepts though, cause Being a vegan would be very tough for me, but vegetarian/omnivore diets are something I can relate better too. Though opening my mind to different possibilities is what I like about your videos, see how someone else is living, and maybe use their ideas as a frame work for my own. Because everyone being different we all cant live exactly the same, though we can take good ideas and mold them for our lifestyle and fine tune them to our specific needs. Keep up the hard work and great content, a day in the life diet video would be cool. Whats your exercise looking like these day, has it changed much since your prior exercise videos, I mean specifically while your cutting weight.
@j-dragonclimbing27187 жыл бұрын
That's simply not true though @mikey. I'm not sure if you were basing your comment on the study that shows that vegans on average get more protein than non-vegans, but you have to realize vegans try harder to get enough/more protein whereas a lot of non-vegans don't. If you compare protein content in chicken vs let's say tofu (which is a go-to protein food for vegans/WFPB), chicken wins by miles. Also, less filling is not true either as seen by the fiber content in all plants. Fiber keeps you full but animals don't have fiber; this is the reason you can chug 2k+ calories in one sitting eating all you can eat BBQ for example whereas you couldn't do that with plants.

The reason I want to start eating more fruits and veggies rather than meat is energy levels. I’m seriously so tired all the time and I need to nap DAILY. I also need to take stimulants to get an intense workout in. Has your energy levels went up since you’ve transitioned?
@taco5647 жыл бұрын
I’m usually getting about 6-7 hours of sleep at night. But I’ve experimented with more sleep and it legit does nothing. I’m thinking I’m deficient of something in my diet

Get the same calory content and you have the same energy. Decreasing systemic inflammation increases energy level by promoting gut health. For example by reducing constipation and IBD. Your results are not conclusive if you're cripplingly dependent on stimulants.

Alex, I remember a year or so ago when you categorically denied the validity of a moral argument for veganism. I haven't been a subscriber for a while because of some political disagreements I had with you (not that one), but it is so great to see that you have come around on the question of acknowledging compassion for animal suffering as a viable reason to go vegan, since it is, IMHO, probably the strongest. Part of my own critique of the "vegan movement" mirrors yours in regard to the cult-like quality. We (vegans) are sometimes extremely biased and inflexible in our reasoning and unable to apply principles to complex situations, like trying to say that people in third-world countries should go vegan rather than doing what they need to do to survive. In other words, we lack nuance and analytical skills. So I'm 100% with you on that. At the same time, I'm sure you'd agree that many many groups of people can be like this. It is just especially striking and irritating when vegans do it because we claim to come from some moral high ground. Sanctimony sucks ass, no doubts there. When it comes to eating "one steak per year," my opinion is that anyone who does this is not a vegan, but of course that doesn't make you a bad person. Being vegan doesn't make someone a good person. It is just that there is a definition of veganism that is worth adhering to. We are not perfect, but we use our freedom of choice to do the best we can reasonably. That's why "plant-based" is a handy term. But we must own our choices. Even though I'm not a subscriber currently, I'm happy for your growth and seeing how far you've come, and your fitness advice and coaching continue to positively impact my life. Peace

ALEX THE ONLY REASON I HAVE NOT GONE VEGAN IS BECAUSE IT IS SO DIFFICULT TO BULK ON A VEGAN DIET. Can you make a video or mention in your q&a how to bulk on a vegan diet? It seems simple, but eating a surplus of calories on a plant based diet, from my experience, is just painful. From what I have been lead to believe, a plant based diet is only good for cutting or maintenance.

I agree with a lot of your points, but the pasture raised grass fed is worse for the environment despite the health and ethic benefits. However drastically reducing meat consumption would considerably would reduce the environmental impact. It would take the entirety of North America/central to supply just the USpasture raised farms due to the immense amount of land used for grazing, for current consumption levels. Also grass fed cows produce more methane, which due to its chemical bonds stores more energy and thus heat than co2, due to the way cows digest grass. Anyway nice video, been here since you had 15,000 subs, bought naturally enchanted last year, I’ll keep watchin.

I agree with you 1000% percent. I hate giving myself a label, I eat vegetarian about 90% of the time but like you I won't refuse someone's food, I'll just eat less meat. I think by putting such strict guidelines on it that can scare people away and make them not want to try. I also agree that for certain cultures like the traditional Inuit who eat wild meat is totally respectable. At the end of the day someone could take it so far and you could question their use of plastic or driving or flying.. all of that resulted in habitat destruction which killed insects and mammals.... but if you're conscience and try to recycle and reuse and do the least damage without completely restricting yourself of any pleasure (in moderation) then you're doing a great job. Props Alex! This is an educated and informed view of veganism - a voice that is often clouded over with vegan extremism. There should not be an us versus them mentality or even an "us" for that matter. Your thoughts on hunting, judgement of others, and moderation are very much the way forward and to a collective awareness and greater appreciation for the food we eat.
