There are versions of these on Amazon that come with an 8" USB extender cable that helps with the stability of them (the slight bump on the desk seems to make them lose connection). Having run into this exact issue with even higher quality components, like the Sound Blaster K3+, it can mitigate sound popping at the noise floor, but it still doesn't fix it. 11:56 That's not really how it works. My hypothesis is that the directional characteristics of these two microphones are slightly different. Not all cardioid condenser microphones are perfectly cardioid. There's a pattern called supercardioid with an additional lobe of sensitivity right at the rear. You should spin those two mics around and see for yourself where their null points are. The hum from your PC has a lot of medium frequency content while the keyboard is rich in high frequency content - supercardioids are usually quite sensitive to such sounds from the rear. 12:05 is straight up ignorance unless we're talking about measurement microphones or other microphones with a true omnidirectional capsule. There's also another pattern called subcardioid that you should check out. It's like a less directional cardioid pattern. Real life directional patterns can vary quite a bit due to implementation details - they can even be uneven on their sides (the t.bone EM9900 shotgun microphone comes to my mind here, and you can find full measurements on their website). Most manufacturers only post basic polar pattern charts with one or just a couple of frequencies plotted... which is a shame. They certainly have access to better data.

I have one of the cheapo capture cards and the CamLink and want to share some more findings: In OBS the standard video-proc settings for the cheapo are not optimal. Set brightness to 0, contrast to 128, hue to 0 and saturation to 128 (CamLink has this as standard). It prevents black and white crush and gives better colors. You can then still tweak the settings to your preferences. The cheapo seems to NOT record in FHD, but only half the horizontal resolution. I captured a test painting with thin lines and checkerboards from my laptop screen, no scaling, no compression. There it is obvious that the horizontal resolution is not the full 1920 pixels. Vertically though it is fine. I think this is the reason for the washed out look you mentioned. You will notice it mostly in strong contrasts, e.g. drawings and text on paper. So the output will be FHD, but the actual image resolution is lower. On the other hand I had no problems at all using it in OBS or conference apps like Zoom. That's even better than the CamLink which sometimes freezes in OBS when changing the settings. Still, for a measly 25 $ (or 20 € for me) it is absolutely okay, especially with lower end cameras or a camcorder.

I got my mic off of Amazon for $38. It's a Neewer NW-8000_USB with pop filter, mic arm and desk mount. I haven't had any complaints about the sound from any of my viewers.

I bought the same capture card. I'm using a 5yr old i3 laptop and Sony a5100. It worked but only for 720p 30 fps. Frames were dropped when using 1080p 30fps, video was downgraded to 10 fps, with significant latency. Unusable for OBS. I then bought another no-name capture card, around $60, but this was 4K and 3.0 USB. The 1080p 30fps worked with "forgivable" latency--I'm using this to make videos for the classes I teach during the pandemic, so I hope they wouldn't mind the slight delay.

Wow. People have different viewpoints. An AMAZING microphone would be a $10,000 Sony C800G. Or a a even more expensive Vintage Neumann U67 or U47. But you can get more than good enough mics for streaming with broadcast quality for less than half. Maybe even as low as $2000

Yeah, my mic was $14 and i think it is amazing. It wven came with all the acessories, not just the mic.

Did the volume knob keep turning on the new one. The sound issues could be crossed cables. I have a blue yeti and if it goes across a poorly shielded power cable I get a similar noise

I bought two of those cheap HDMI capture cards for streaming church services about a year ago; they work great. The only complaint I have is if the device feed from the source device (feed from display laptop or camera) gets power cycled OBS no longer sees the device even if it's back to fully on; you have to unplug capture card, plug it back in and reconfigure in OBS. Does that also happen with more expensive capture devices?

Those capture dongles? I just found the same one with usb 3.0 and 4k@30 / 1080@60. The price - I bought 2 including postage for AU$36. Also, maybe you can hear the difference locally, but once it gets compressed onto a youtube stream the audio difference isn't that apparent. Even when played on $1200 worth of of Onkyo 5.1

I picked up a Tonor TC-777 for about 40 bucks and I do have to say compared to my webcam mic it's a HUGE upgrade. I am holding off on any upgrades at all until I can justify one with actual revenue. You've said so many times, and so has Devin that the equipment is only a small part of what helps you grow. I think I have decent audio, lighting, and video at this point and upgrading would probably be a waste of money since I need to focus on being a better content creator both on KZbin and Twitch(both have different types of content and reasons for using the platform)

Is there some reason for streaming you need frame rates above 30 FPS? I mean for normal videos, movies and stuff you want to stay as close to 24-30 FPS as possible so I’m confused about why this is a problem. Maybe with streaming the extra frames means that even if your internet is bad then it’ll still look pretty good (less dropped frames)?
@MrJBA793 жыл бұрын
I have two 1080p @ 30fps cameras incl. the Logitech C922 Pro.. and because they're not 60fps they will always look loggy against a 60fps stream. What I'm looking for is respectable, well priced, 60fps options.
@kipling19573 жыл бұрын
I have one and it works perfectly on a Canon 80D and C100 MK2. I also use an ATEM Mini Pro and there’s no difference in image quality can detect in 1080P/30FPS, and no glitches so far. It comes in handy when I need a portable and simple set-up away from my main studio.

I realize this is an "old" video, but the neewer nw-7000 is a solid $50 usb mic, but as with any audio solution, setting up your space properly and applying appropriate filters will go a long way to improving quality.

hey have you checked out samson meteor mic? its a microphone built for recording acoustic instruments but I have found that it really works well for a budget starter streaming microphone and its only $60

Sounds like maybe the cheapo mic isn't clocked right...having both of those mics simultaneously plugged in, both using their own internal A/D converters, unless you specifically were able to set both mics to clock to the computer's internal clock (or whatever clock, as long as it was the same) one will be mis-clocked...might be worth a test with ONLY the cheapo connected.

The purple hue of the cheapo cam it's probably because they cheaper so much that it doesn't even have a infrared filter, it would explain why the dark corner looked more bright

So. The cheap microphone sounded fine on the video before you did your personal playback and got interference. I am thinking it was an issue with the closed loop. When you said you heard the Humm I actually had to change my home theater system from 40 volume to 60 to be able to hear it.

I bought a webcam from Hong Kong in 2007 - $5 shipped (I was in college). My black shirts were gray, red was usually pink, and the rest fairly normal. Focus was achieved by screwing/unscrewing the lens. I was, however, successful in talking to my sister across the US. I see ebay still has 0.3 million pixel "HD" webcams for sale. I wouldn't advise getting that unless you want a laugh.

Definitely would wanna see the Cheapo Depot camera test. Also been able to find a c922 on ebay, but c920's are pretty scarce. The quality of the c922 is far less washed out than the c920 like if the white balance is higher by default.

I bought the Neewer 8000 USB microphone for 38€ with a full set (arm, pop-filter, etc.) and it doesn't sound as bad as this. For video calls in university it's a massive jump from my logitech headset mic. Also the 1080p Webcam (branded as Teknet at the time) I bought for 20€ 2-3 years ago might look a bit washed out, but it doesn't have these color problems, so it probably depends on which one you get. So depending on what you want to do, maybe the cheapo stuff is enough, especially if you don't have an extra 100€ or so to spare, but want to achieve a quality level where most people won't complain about the audio. A level where you know it's not good, but not bad enough to be annoying.
@Daedgeman4 жыл бұрын
Ok, so I actually bought that cheapo capture card before you did the video and I can say that your findings were correct. HOWEVER, I was recording a video using my Canon M100 in the same lighting and setting that I stream / record in and I found that my picture suddenly started going dark. I reset OBS several times and determined that the card was overheating. I ended up putting a fan on the card and it stopped it from overheating but I did find that the saturation and tint were wavering slightly. Not enough that it would be noticed in a face cam setting but as a full screen setting it would totally be detectable. So I've ordered the Elgato CamLink since I can't afford not to have a camera work when I need to make content. The bottom line is you get what you pay for. If you would like to see pictures of what was happening let me know and I can send them.

I'm based in malaysia, got the cheapo capture card for less than 7 USD, bought a used hero3+ black for about 50 bucks, and spent about 20 $ more for for cables, clamp mounts etc, and about 30$ on lights and into obs, and its the best setup in my whole school, other than that one crazy lecturer who spent about $2k on a dslr, elgato capture card, and fancy rgb lights. thanks for all the pointers! also i've tested the 4k in and it seems to work on OBS, but i usually just run 1080 cos on Zoom and Lark (which we use for Uni), the max possible is 1080p. My total cost came out to about 120-130 USD including all the extra bits and pieces i bought along the way. still since the logitech c920 is selling for about 110 USD, its not that far off and way better image quality. I run a SSL 2 and a 1" cardioid condenser for my audio so it sounds excellent as well.

Any digital-to-digital adapter such as HDMI capture will have a lot less difference regardless of any device as long as the device works at all. Any analog-to-digital device (such as microphone or camera) will really hurt you if you go with low quality = too cheap.
