Great review and plenty of safety tips which I like to see, I have the bsa lightning se and it’s a cracking little rifle, bought it just before the first lockdown before prices went a tad silly. Bsa airguns have been around for years and have a good track record and are definitely value for money, just wish more companies put a thumb scallop for those who like to shoot thumb up, are you listening Weihrauch! Another thing I like about the bsa safety catches are that they are silent which can make or break a shot, many other springers or gas rams have this click which is enough to spook your quarry, again are you listening Weihrauch! But yes I love the bsa lightnings had them all over the years but settled on the Se as one of my grab and go guns and it’s never let me down, pure quality.

Hi. Got both GRT and spring version of this BSA. They are super guns, really nice to handle. But....... Had to put in a longer trigger adjustment screw to get rid of the excessive creep. The GRT is really smooth and shot well till it lost power. BSA are looking at it as we speak! The springer is savage on scopes and the stock bolts keep coming loose. Needs threadlock on to keep tight. Nice review, cheers

The trigger is plastic and is heavy. I put longer M2.5 x 10mm bolt in my trigger to et better adjustment, though when doing this hit and bang the stock stock to make sure the trigger isn't too light of a hair trigger and causes it to fire. It's best to use 2 or 3 spring washers to get the correct setting for a lighter trigger.

Finally a person that shows how to load a pellet like i do on a Brake barrel, to me, if the sear lets go fo any reason, will be very hard to keep it from going balistic, i realize that i tend to grab the barrel whit less and less force when tryng to put a little 177 on a little hole
@airgunextra
@airgunextra 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, a lot safer. However some break barrels require a bit of tension to reveal the breech even if you don't cock it - the HW90K is like that - so you have to make sure it won't ping back and pinch a finger.

Think ppl may need to test different pellets as those 4.52 AA DF’s have a fairly big spread.., but is that because it’s a new rifle and the barrel isn’t leaded in yet. Wouldn’t mind seeing a follow up vid of this a few months down the line just to see if that grouping improves with time and lead. I haven’t got a gas ram in the “cabinet” yet and this looks better than other gas ram items.😎

Great Review Richard. I bought this rifle with a tactical stock in 22 , having not shot a gun in years I decided to see if would still enjoy it. Thought I'd start with a spring or gas ram before stepping up to a PCP gun. Really pleased with the BSA , it's a decent gun for the money. However, I do feel it goes off with a bit of a crack. Is it worth throwing an extra silencer on the end or do you think it won't make much of a difference? I know shorter barrels can produce more noise .

Could you tell me what version feels the smoothest in recoil and cocking action , the gas ram or Springer ?
@airgunextra
@airgunextra 2 жыл бұрын
It really depends on the rifle. A good springer is nice and smooth and a bad one is horrible. The same for a gas ram. The difference is that with a gas ram of course you are not compressing a spring. Gas rams can also sometimes feel like they get harder to cock the closer you get to fully compressing the air chamber.

@airgunextra
@airgunextra 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Barry. I'm glad you are listening so closely to every word. I think if you are shooting continuously on the range, cocking, loading and firing you can get away without setting the safety catch each time. But if you're hunting for instance and leaving the gun cocked for any period of time, then the safety catch going on is a must.

@airgunextra
@airgunextra Жыл бұрын
Hi Darren. Sorry to hear you're having issues. Springers/gas rams are more difficult to shoot accurately than PCPs, as I'm sure you know. The best results come from holding the rifle exactly the same way each time to allow the rifle to recoil consistently. That doesn't mean you have to hold it in a death grip, just the same consistent pressure of hold. Also, make sure you look down the centre of the scope each time. Changing your eye position will also result in shot to shot inconsistency. Other than that, if you haven't already done so, its worth giving the barrel a good clean with a pull through kit and ensuring all the stock bolts and screws are nice and tight. And of course, you may need to have to try different brands of pellets to find one that works best with your rifle. Test them at 15 metres to find which groups best and then move the range out. As a general rule, stick to the quality brands - JSB, Air Arms, H&N etc...Good luck and let us know how you get on. If you ever find yourself near Reading on a Saturday you'd be very welcome to drop in to Reading Air Target Shooting club - just let me know in advance.

I have rhe gas ram .22 version and its one of the worst guns I have ever owned......it groups 5 or 6 pellets then it has flyers all over rhe place....I've tried all jsb and h+n pellets. Cleaned the barrel etc. The barrel has a pin instead of a screw to keep the breech jaws nice and tight so it will develop lateral movement after a while. It has been back to bsa and it came back even worse. The trigger is shocking for a £300 rifle. I've had air rifles for 40 years and to be honest it's not as good as a Mercury I had in the 80,s

Mine was exactly the same. Good group then chase the zero all over the place. Turned out the springer version was shaking it's stock bolts AND scope screws loose! Used threadlock on the stock bolts, just keep an eye on the scope now. It's so harsh firing it pulled the recoil pin out!

Hi. Personally I don't think it is necessary to apply the safety after each shot if you are shooting under controlled conditions on a range. Unlike say if you are hunting and you are unlikely to take a shot for some time after cocking. Thanks for watching.

RWS superdomes you’ll get pellet on pellet. The lightning is one of the best shooting best looking and best kept secrets out there. It embarrasses rifles at twice the price.

Hi Dave. You're right that the Lightning is a great rifle, and certainly a looker. I get your earlier point regarding the raised mount and recoil. I've always dealt with the issue, whenever it has occurred, with an arrester block so I can mount a scope as low to the barrel as possible. That said, with a decent set of mounts, I don't often find scope creep an issue. I'm glad you're enjoying your BSAs and flying the flag!

@@airgunextra cheers I’ve seen so many scopes fall off. And with the rail and low mounts the doesn’t end up any tall. The new version of the rail is called the RRR is a two piece rail. A stop block with a suspension rubber and the front scope rail. I don’t like the tall mounts I have to use to fit a 50/56mm scope. It looks like the scope is on stilts. I know it’s just aesthetics but from a technical and engineering perspective a recoilless mount and low scope mounts make sense. And protects your scope. We how savage spring guns are on scopes Hey what do I know. Loved the video.

Hi Alan. Do I understand correctly that you are suggesting a break barrel rifle be cocked so that when the cocking action is finished the barrel is pointed down at the floor (so effectively point the barrel at the floor and raise the butt in the air? Have you used a break barrel?

Hi David. It's a conundrum. I know plenty of people will disagree, but in my experience gas rams are more difficult to shoot accurately than springers, and certainly less tuneable. The only exception to this is the HW90 which I tested and found to be great to shoot. Of course, budget is a major factor, but I'd say that if you can stretch to it, Weihrauch has the break barrel springer market pretty much sewn up. When it comes to underlevers, they and Air Arms are the best.
