Mike, I appreciate that you are candid about having been homeless. I had been homeless at one point also. The only way to end the stigma about the homeless is to reference it as something that can happen to anyone for a variety of reasons. Thank you.

You are absolutely right. I came from a truly wonderful loving family. Yet I still got hooked on prescription opiates, that led to Street opiates. 22 years of the most severe of addiction, to be had. (I've been *clean for 3years* now) I'm sure one can imagine, like your "average" drug addict, i become alienated from family, friends &all loved one. So I was homeless for many hard years. I look 20+ years older than my older siblings. Sadly street life truly drains the life right out of you.

PaperDoll Baby ..God Bless you for getting clean, it’s a long hard road but you just gotta take it one day at a time. I also had many hard years stuck on opiates. It really is the devils drug because you can get hooked so freakin easily and even by getting them in a legitimate way by a dr too! It’s crazy and scary but thank God I got clean too and i have a very happy and full life now. And at times I felt like I never would be back to the old me.. but God works in mysterious ways & He gave me that last lil push I needed to finally say to myself, “Enough! I’m getting help.” So God bless any and all who may be struggling w addiction and/or homelessness.. there is always Hope of a better life and we All deserve it! rich or poor- It can literally take down anyone, addiction does Not discriminate! Keep the faith I’m rooting for you! XO! And God Bless you Mike, you’re s beautiful person for sharing your past troubles! Love & Light to y’all! 😉👍🏻💜✌🏻🙏❤️☝️😃🌸

There is no shame in being homeless. The shame comes from judging them. Thanks Mike your a very good man 👍.
@pampatterson5919
@pampatterson5919 5 жыл бұрын
The shame is in being in a position to help and being too cold and choosing not to. Every person that walks by a soul in need earns a sin. I have never been one to live extravagant, but I have always tried to fulfill a need of theirs when I spotted a soul in need. This is a huge disappointment to me in our society that there are such economical divides. That banks would rather rush people out of their homes and let them rot across the country unlived in, all the while human beings are losing faith in the intellect of their own kind simply for their greed and inability to offer grace and a solution more becoming of a good neighbour. There are far too many causes of homelessness, but none of them should be acceptable. God be with us to close the divide and bring our humanity back to rational thought.

Poverty is a state of mind as much as physical assets or lack thereof. Most people I've met who are homeless would really prefer somewhere to call home, no matter the size of the dwelling. As Bill Gates discovered, wealth can be measured in terms of generosity of spirit. As others have mentioned, I very much appreciate your honesty in sharing Michael. Time, 24 hours a day, is one of the few aspects of life which is metered without regard to anything - that is, totally without bias - to everyone and all life forms on this planet Earth. Respecting our environment ought to be something in every person's awareness, as we (as a collective) foul our nest daily.

Most ATMs in the UK (though we call them cash-points) are free to use. We're only charged to withdraw money from certain cash-points. They're usually in areas that are slightly remote, so you have no other choice. We only use them if we really have to. Many if us refuse to use a cash-point if there's a charge. (Charges also vary, depending on where you are. London is much more expensive than small towns.)

I live in the UK, one thing I have heard is that when making a cup of tea, rich people put milk in first, then the tea bag, and then the boiled water. As I don't personally know any rich people, I don't know if it's true or not. I tried that once and the result was gross, the tea didn't brew properly and it was far too milky despite me using the same amount of milk I would normally. For us 'poor' people, we put the tea bag in, pour in the boiling water, let it sit for around five minutes, stir vigorously, squeeze out the tea bag and THEN add the milk (and sugar if wanted). Since you're americans I'll let you know I am NOT talking about the cold lipton tea you serve there (I had some when I visited arizona served with lemon, it was nice, but it was not like tea at home)... I mean tea served hot, like typhoo, PG tips or Tetleys (not to be confused with the beer of the same name which is a generic bitter ale). I buy typhoo, £1 for 80 tea bags is a bargain, and it doesn't taste like a cheap tea, it's actually quite strong and really nice :)

I'm 67 years old and just five years ago I became homeless. My roommate became violent and I HAD to leave. I naively thought oh I'll find somewhere to go. All hotels were full. It was freezing cold and all the shelters were full. I had nowhere to go so I faked a migraine headache and went to the ER just to warm up. And as far ad the Hope diamond being irreplaceable, there are many more beautiful and rare gemstones. I went to the Smithsonian Institution and saw the Hope diamond and it basically looked like a piece of blue glass. (You all knew the Hope was blue, right?) Most really valuable jewelry or stones/pearls are in private collections or museums.

Outdoor showers are pretty common in the warmer parts of the World. We live in Australia and we certainly have one! (Helps to recycle water too - make sure to use garden-friendly products!). As for cars - rich people DON'T change theirs when the latest model pops up - they tend to keep them well-serviced and get as much value out of the investment as possible. When they are beyond economical repair, they replace with new. We are lucky here in that corrosion is not a problem, and many pretty wealthy friends (as in Consultant Surgeon wealthy!) keep their cars for a decade or more.

The banter you have with Tristan works very well. Here is another poor people use income to survive. Rich do their best to reduce income using it like an allowance. There day to day life expenses are paid by the corporation (housing, meals, vactions and vehicles are corporate costs not part of personal expenses)

I live in hurricane county I bought a large mobile home. I had a above code foundation built and the set on it and fastened down so it is a single family home. It was the least expensive means to get close to the best hurricane construction as a stick built was 3x as much Another difference between middle class and rich.

When I was growing up, we called big spoons "dog food spoons". I'm pretty sure the rich call them something different (mixing spoons?) and use them for a different purpose. BTW, we used dog food spoons for mixing cookie batter or as serving spoons too but still called them dog food spoons. "I need a dog food spoon for this macaroni and cheese, then we'll be ready to eat!"

During my lifetime I’ve been very poor and very wealthy. I got tired of living in my pickup, so I went to college. We now have a nice income. 5 years ago we bought 1/4 of a Mtn and built a custom home into the side. Our house is a modest one. 3 bdrm 3 bath with an over sized 2 car garage. We’re still frugal. In 21 my wife’s 18 year old Camry needed to be replaced so I bought her a 2 year old Outback with only 5,600 miles and last year I replaced my 12 year old RAV4 with a 3 year old Forester Touring with 4,700 miles. We’ll drive them until they start needing major repairs. We’ll be driving our 12 year old pickup until we die.
