use your own toilet paper! My fat roommates go through 3 rolls before I'm done with one. prayer times makes no sense since religion isn't a door to open and close. a maid is a stranger in the house - who is accountable if she steals or breaks something? decoration rules and what is allowed in common spaces is a good one -- need to ask other roommates before putting in furniture or boxes in common areas. no communal anything. no pervert sounds - good one. our morbidly-obese 61 year old Filipino roommate played super-loud porn the second night she stayed in the house. I had a roommate that I had to teach everything to since her mother had always done everything for her, including making her bed. She had terrible friends who let her drink underage (if she gave them the money for the alcohol) and then left her passed out drunk and stole her cigarettes. She was also a prodigy and learned how to play the piano in a week. She'd play the same song over and over and over and...Eventually I bought her a pair of nice headphones to plug into her keyboard and we were both happier. Another roommate was literally hauled away in a straight jacket. She'd stopped taking her medication cause she'd felt better and was hallucinating and screaming. We didn't even know about the meds or her mental health issues. My least annoying roommate used to come home drunk every Friday and Saturday about 2 or 3 am to change clothes while laughing hysterically. I'd slam cabinets and doors in retaliation when she was hung over the next day. We never interacted otherwise because everything in the world seemed to piss her off no matter what I tried. She seemed to like me better after I started slamming the doors. Another roommate was sexually assaulted while camping and I had to talk her into reporting it. I was called out of class more than once to come pick her up after she had panic attacks and had to sit up late with her, telling stories until she felt safe enough to sleep. I had to leave a few months later but kept in touch and flew back for her birthday, apparently the first one anyone ever threw for her at age 20. She named her first child after me. I'm not kidding. All of these roommates were assigned to me and the only complaint any of them ever made about/to me was that I did the chores before they could get to them (can't stand dirty dishes in the sink) and that I watched too much tv sometimes. Oh, and I take really long showers. I'm still friends with most of them even though I'd never have chosen them as friends had we met otherwise.

I have a horror story. I was living with 3 other roommates, two of them were a couple living together. The routine was like this: one or the other would heavily drink (NOT in their opinion, they were just "relaxing"), then make the loudest noises until late at night. This was the lite version. The heavier routine was like this: they would drink, loudly fight with each other, even hitting each other, insults and smacks flying around. And that was NORMAL for them. The whole time I lived there I did not have a good nights sleep, also because sometimes they would make loud noise early in the morning, I never could guess when it would end OR start. And they would try to convince that I would never find better accommodations than in their house! Yeah, right!!!

Is hot water limit a thing in the USA? In most countries you just use however much you want as long as you pay for it.
@ifftv1057 жыл бұрын
depends. if u got a water boiler then the hot water will end
@sevenlexar7 жыл бұрын
As somebody who has a 'hot water limit'; it's not so much a hard limit as it is that some homes only have so much hot water at a time - then more water (which is naturally/sitting either cold or room-temp) has to be heated by the house's water system, meaning if you use too much of the hot water, there won't be enough for the next person to have a hot shower. I'm not sure if apartments have this issue though, or if the hot water tank is just bigger for bigger residential buildings. I'm also not sure people who live in-city (connected to the city water system) have this issue either, or if it's a suburban thing.
@KnightRanger387 жыл бұрын
It depends on the source of the hot water. In some countries there is hot water on demand. For instance, in Brazil most homes have electric shower heads. In the USA most homes heat tanks of water that is then distributed to the rest of the house.
@tudorjason7 жыл бұрын
Даниил Бережнов Hot water heaters are extremely common in the U.S. When the hot water runs out, you have to wait for the water to heat back up, which can take a few hours.
@issac99307 жыл бұрын
Даниил Бережнов Lol. No, we don't have a "limit" from a company or anything. We normally have a hot water tank somewhere in the house, and it only holds so much hot water. After it runs out of hot water, you have to wait for the new water in there to heat up. Some people have these things that instantly heat up the water as it moves through the pipe though, but not most people. We have one though.

One of my friends used to live with a guy who genuinely had the worst personal hygiene I've ever heard of. He had chronic urinary incontinence, but didn't even have a proper bin to dispose of his adult diapers. Instead, after often wearing the same one for an entire day (and thus, always reeking of piss and having noticeable piss marks on his clothes from overflow), he'd stash them in plastic shopping bags, under his bed. At one point, the other housemates staged an intervention, after one contracted an E.coli infection (contrary to popular belief, urine is NOT sterile once it leaves the body, because it picks up a ton of bacteria on its way out) and they found 19 leaking bags stuffed with used, festering diapers under his bed. This was around the same time he'd stopped paying rent, after "quitting" his job (who wants to buy food from a guy who reeks of piss from 20 paces away??), so thankfully, they were able to kick him out. When that happened, they also got rid of the sofa where he usually slept (probably because his bed was a giant, stinking biohazard), which no one else had even touched in over a year because it also reeked of piss and was covered in little stains 😫 The only reasons any of them put up with it for so long were awkwardness and one housemate's utter spinelessness.

yep. I've worked with people like that, too. So, how to screen them out? Asking them to show up at a certain time to meet is sometimes a good indicator. If they are late or change the time at short notice, that could mean they are self-absorbed. An accidental sign happened with one roommate - we set out 3 chairs in an empty room for me, the landlord, and the prospective tenant. She sees us both, puts her purse on one chair, sits in the other, and obviously thinks its my duty to stand up the entire time while she and the landlord talk. and she was late.

I clean up my mess when I’m cooking. I clean things up daily. My roommates are a couple and they are lazy asfff. They barley ever freaking clean, and they’re the ones who makes most of the freaking mess! Then when they do clean (rarely) they only clean one part of the room. For example, when I do the dishes, I clean the WHOLE kitchen. Wash the dishes, take out the trash, sweep the floors, wipe down the counters and the stove. Their lazy ass will only do the dishes. We’ve only been living together a month and they’re already bothering me with this.

One of my current roommates is a nightmare. Literally will sleep majority of the day, use up most of the things such as toilet paper, milk (especially milk and will drink it lips on the bottle) bread, etc and not replace it at all. She also brings her bike in the living after countless times being told that it's unwanted. Has two of the world's most annoying Yappy little dogs. Constantly pace back and forth to smoke out front of the house (it's a shotgun home so she has to cross my room to do so). And to top things off, does not pay any bills. The "nicest" thing I can say about this person is she did take me in off the streets and cleans up very well, however this living arrangement goes down in the books for me as my worse experience ever living with someone.

During a job I had down in the Grand Canyon National Park, I had a roommate in the employee dorm I lived in who drank a lot and even brought a friend over to sleep with both being drunk out of their minds. Needless to say, it can be rough when one drinks and the other doesn't. Thankfully my experience in the Navy taught me how to deal with the situation.

No.22 : refill the toilet paper roll when it's out Same goes when the trash is full, throw it out and place a new trash bag in the bin. There is a certain roommate who fills up the trash bin & NEVER bother put a new trash bag and throw out the full one. Every single time, WE put a new empty trash bag, she will filled that bin up. Not even once she bother to help clear the trash and put new bag in the bin. I'm sure there are others who can relate to this too.

You asked for a story, here's a good one! I had a house mate that NEVER locked the door. I would come home more often than not to a complete stranger sitting on the couch watching my tv and eating my food and my house mate was still at work. When I asked each one who they were and where's "Joe" they would tell me, oh I'm a friend of "Joe" and he said I could hang out whenever I wanted, don't know where he is, probably work??? Bad enough? Apparently no! More than one house crasher at a time would start occurring. Then things started to disappear around the house. Last straw was when I came home to find a very drug induced party in the living room with broken shit everywhere, a chick coming out of the bathroom wearing one of my skirts and jewelry, and a couple f*cking on my bed and "Joe" was no where to be found. Unfortunately, even after leaving the house and on to a far better living situation, I still have "Joe" in my life as he lives in the same neighborhood and we have a few common hang out spots. To this day, even after many arguments, his breaking the lease, and the landlord suing him, I have not received a single apology or even a speck of remorse from that hellish man. In fact, he blames me for the whole mess for not setting boundaries for his friends while he wasn't there. Da'f*ck?! He recently had his house robbed blind, and still won't accept that locking the door and having better friends might have changed things a bit. IDIOT!!! Moral to the story... Background check, and references for everyone sharing your space. Oh, and photographing my stuff and renter's insurance might have saved me some grief too.

Hi, right now I'm in my room it is 12:47 AM and my roommate is banging on some dishes and silverware in the kitchen, some pots too, stacking them in the dishwasher after he cooked some stuff...really banging, no soft touches! Also he wakes up every morning to have breakfast with his daughter that comes over every day at 5 AM before work...a thing that he did not mention when I first moved in...you got it..at 5 AM and that breakfast is not a light one...full cookout...frying stuff, taking out the dishes from the dishwasher and stacking them...TV on in the kitchen...the whole package...not caring that I am sleeping at that time...when I talked to him once at 5 AM and asked him to be more considerate about the noise, because he wakes me up, his response was "I do this every morning man, my daughter comes to eat with me every time, I have to cook and do dishes" and got upset that I told him that he's being loud...like I was the one bothering him...I also can't really confront him about it like I would do with a regular roommate because he is the landlord of the place and basically he owns the house, I pay him cash with no contract...thus the "I have the right to do this" attitude, but he doesn't respect quiet hours...he does the 5 AM cookout till around 6:30-7:00 AM and then goes back to bed like nothing happened ...and this will go on and on...next day he'll be at it again...WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOU WERE ME? It would be hard to move too, because I live close to my work place...but it seems like that would be the only option to get some decent sleep!

I have a roommate who is 30 yrs older than me and I've known him for 2 years. I mostly do the cleaning (kitchen, bathroom, dishes and the trash) and most times buying the remaining groceries for him if he forgot them. Most of the time he'll cook for the both of us but oftentimes he forgets to wash the pans after he is done cooking and I would wash it. He's more of a "I'll get to it later" person whereas me I'm the "get up and do it and get it out the way" person. But most of the time we get along pretty well. So, in my dorms, we don't have to share rooms. It's just bathrooms and the kitchen that we share (bathroom with one other person and kitchen with everyone else-sixteen in total). This year, I just share the kitchen, but last year was horrible. I had a bathroom mate that would throw up in the SHOWER and not clean it up. She would literally just leave it there for a few days. She and the other girl next to me got kicked out for bringing people in the middle of the night to party and steal everyone's food. This year I'm keeping all of my food in my room, but thankfully so far the people who are here are pretty nice.

Now this is a kind of stupid question. I'm a high school senior with the ambition of transferring from community college to a higher education. Since I won't likely live in school dorms, I've been considering living in an apartment. My mom says that I will likely need a roommate (*eye-roll* IDK why, I'm much more responsible by myself). I'm a pretty individualistic person - I'll make my own food, do my own clothes, clean up after myself, etc... I wouldn't mind a roommate who is equally responsible and respectful (though I know that won't always be the case.) *Now to my stupid question* - do you make food for each other? For breakfast, do you make food only for yourself or for your roomate as well? Do you prepare a meal and lay it out for both of you? That's one thing I've been thinking a little worriedly about. As I mentioned, I'm individualistic, but that comes from my social anxiety and introversion. Hopefully, HOPEFULLY I will become close friends with my RM, (or will be beforehand), but in the case I don't, I'm kind of dreading those awkward table moments where you're eating and you don't know what to say and you die from awkwardness.I mean, I can't control everything and I certainly can't control someone else (heavens no). *TL:DR* - Do you make yourself food or food for both of you?

In 7th grade, my school went on a class trip to Williamsburg. The trip was fine, but my roommates weren't. We have this weird request system and for some reason, it failed completely and placed me in the room of the three most annoying people in my grade (no one that I chose). They spent the entire four days playing poker for oreos and drinking root beer. So I shut myself into the bathroom in the lobby for hours at a time.

I live with two 30-something-year-old roommates. They rarely clean up after themselves in communal spaces. They eat all of the food no matter if it was just me paying for it (one time it was $1500 worth of groceries gone within a month) or me forcing everyone to chip in. The one with a cat... has yet to take care of their own cat in the 6 months they've lived here (I feed it, clean the litterbox, and pay out of my own pocket to keep it fed and clean). One of them also keeps using my laundry soap to the point where one time the jug is full when I first use it, to the second time it's nearly empty. They smoke pot in their rooms (lease says no smoking), vape in all rooms, and are noisy at all hours of the night, which disrupts my sleep and has suppressed my immune system to the point where I've had nearly 10 sick days in the past month. They both frequently enter my bedroom when I'm not home. Some of my possessions have disappeared. I'm moving out by the end of the month. Never having roommates again.

I've lived with men, women, many ages, some gay, some had grown kids.... try hard to never keep things in common areas, but always locked in your bedroom. It is inconvenient, but prevents lots of fights and distrust. One roommate will do something bad and allow other roommates or the landlord to think someone else did it. I was cheated out of my security deposit this way. I should've taken better and far more pictures.
