Until today, I did not know the origin of this famous clarinet passage, although I've heard it quoted by many famous clarinetists, and others, as well. This is the only "compulsory" clarinet solo in traditional Jazz. "High Society" without this solo is not "High Society". Whenever a traditional Jazz Band needs a clarinet player, the applicants are asked to play Picou's solo.
