C'est un musicien légendaire, dont on avait entendu parler, çà-et-là, par les divers témoignages d'anciens musiciens qui avaient joué avec lui. Le voir pour de vrai fait chaud au coeur, enfin on le découvre !

My name is Marty. I’m a 69-year old attorney and I live in Louisville Kentucky. I went to Tulane from 1969 to 1971 and I really appreciate that you posted this video. P. S: I am also an amateur drummer.

Until today, I did not know the origin of this famous clarinet passage, although I've heard it quoted by many famous clarinetists, and others, as well. How wonderful to get to hear and see the originator. Thank you so much for posting! I'm now going to learn it from the master: Alphonse Picou, thanks to you.

This is the only "compulsory" clarinet solo in traditional Jazz. "High Society" without this solo is not "High Society". Whenever a traditional Jazz Band needs a clarinet player, the applicants are asked to play Picou's solo.
