I love the way the nose harks back to Alpines of the past. Bravo Alpine for delivering a champion right out of the box! Long live the Alpine brand and the Alpine philosophy! Absolutely compelling video!

A lot of these comments are haters that don't appreciate the fact alpine is a very good brand and keep trash talking about how unreliable is going to be because it's Renault. Seriously people who say that are ignorants

@richardhoulton40166 жыл бұрын
James Dickenson It’s not meant to be a “numbers” car. Alpine haven’t gone chasing Nurburgring lap times. The suspension is deliberately soft and “road car” oriented (like Mazda’s MX5). It’s meant to be a “fun driver’s car”...nothing else. It’s certainly not supposed to win drag races. If you want that then buy a Hellcat....or a Tesla.

Why couldn’t Renault sport engineers match Porsche anyhow? Renaults record at formula 1 is second only to Ferrari and they have competed as engine providers or as a team for years. There is plenty of know how within Renault sport
@fxdx686 жыл бұрын
because they know that if they were building a car better and more expensive than a Porsche nobody would buy it.... most people buy a brand and Alpine is not there yet.
@lightningleaf236 жыл бұрын
Marin Kustić yes that’s the issue in Britain there’s this mentality that only the Germans can produce sports and luxury cars. Whilst all the other makers produce cheap shopping cars. Don’t think it’s a huge surprise a car company at the forefront of motorsport can produce good sports cars.
@iKozchu6 жыл бұрын
In France aswell we dont take Renault's cars as matching german cars because of finitions and plastics vibrating after some km traveled for example
@lightningleaf236 жыл бұрын
yndras the problem is if Renault made a car with an interior like a BMW it would cost 30,000 and people wouldn’t buy it. So they make a car with cheaper scratchy plastic and charge 20,000 but the auto reviewers complain about the interior. The fact it 10,000 cheaper and you could buy a second car with the money saved isn’t mentioned.
@iKozchu6 жыл бұрын
Chris lightning Well usually bmw cars last longer (1997-2000's bmw could do way more km than a renault clio or whatever) so it's worth aswell. Plus they dont loose as much value as renault because of bad plastics and more fiability and everything... But yeah they are great cars for value and a lot of equipements aswell, just that they aren't on the level of german cars in terms of overall quality imo

Didn't they ditch the manual because the dual clutch weight less in the end? That's what I've heard from most sources.
@praetor476 жыл бұрын
just PR. it would weigh roughly the same (if not less) with a manual. it probably wasn't worth the cost to R&D and produce the 2 different versions, as they want to compete with the Cayman which is sold mostly in automatic trim, and not the Miata, which is mostly manual. had they gone with the manual, this would've been my attainable dream car, but as it is, i'd rather dream about a Cayman GT4 or a 997.2 GTS 2, which don't cost all that much more, have fare better interiors, are much more practical, 6cyl NA engines, and, most importantly, a manual gearbox. and they'll hold their value really well
@richardhoulton40166 жыл бұрын
They ditched the manual so they didn’t have to engineer complex mechanical linkages to the gear lever and clutch pedal. Paddles (and accelerator) are “by-wire”. I doubt that a DCT would be lighter than a manual.

The problem was: with the budget, they can't do 1 good auto AND 1 good manual gearbox. They made some market research and choose to make only the automatic gearbox. That is kind of sad but, hey ! The gearbox is good so i take it !
@DILINGER06 жыл бұрын
Most of Cayman sold by Porsche are PDK. The demand of sport cars with manual gearbox is going down year by year. Alpine is not going to sell as many cars as Porsche does, so they must to take the best option. EDC is lighter, faster, more demanded and if you can use it as a manual gear box, is not a big problem.

Obvious. Lighter, faster and with this kind of car so reactive, is better to keep your hands on the wheel all the time. All (now I can't remember if there are someone) the supercars are automatic, most of the Cayman that are sold by Porsche are PDK, the 4C is automatic, most of TT are DSG.... Anyway, the gearbox can be handle fully manual but without stick and pedal clutch.
