Max Harrison Sorry but I'm getting really racked off with people banging on about bloody manual. Manual gearboxes are out of date and old fashioned. The fastest way the get ultimate performance is via a great double clutch paddle shift gearbox like this. Racing cars don't have manuals anymore nor should high performance road cars. Time to move on and accept it.

Love the styling of the original. This remake has most of the key cues of the old and i think it looks attractive in an unconventional way. Well done Renault for making this happen not just from a stylistic perspective but also for adhering to the lightweight sports car philosophy.

Apart from this new Alpine, the french sport cars aren't that exciting here. The Peugeot 308 GTi obliterates any Golf around any track but it' based on a high volume production cars. Until this Alpine, french were dreaming about german, italian or US sport cars. ;)

The laguna is actually a pretty boring car to drive, except the version with rear wheel steering (that was the first in his class if i'm correct). The mid engine clio was cool, but not enough produced. It wasn't a total innovative project like the Alpine is.

I really wasn't excited about this car until I saw this video and now I'm really quite interested to see how this turns out. I know it's not everybody's cup of tea when it comes to styling but I think it's beautiful and pays homage nicely to the original A110 which I'm also a fan of. The weight is pretty amazing. 300KG lighter then a Cayman is a serious weight difference.

Sumptuous line, fine and timeless. This Alpine will age as well as the first. The sound is beautiful for a four cylinder. And a 1.8-liter engine that competes with a Porsche ... Congratulations to the entire team at Renault. Porsche seems to be targeted by Renault-Nissan: the Alpine against the Cayman and the GT-R facing the 911. The future is promising ...

@Mattp1976 Surely the point of a sports car like this is to make it as fun as possible? A manual may be old fashioned (heck, any ICE car is old-fashined), but it would make the car a hell of a lot more fun for the driver.

+schumiisking Sure, paddle shifters has its up sides, I can understand that. Something like a Ferrari 488 I'm glad they only built with a paddle shifter, because it's designed to be an ultra-precise track weapon. With a car like the A110 however, I think they've missed the mark if they were aiming for a pure driving experience aimed at competing against the Cayman. You cannot beat a manual for driver involvement.

This car is a direct competitor for the Alfa 4C only, as dimensions are the same, engine size and Hp, including the weight. Of course one shouldn't be surprised that the Alpine is small, so was the original. Likewise, should we be surprised of the Alfa 4C being so small? Not. The Alfa 33 Stradale was tiny, and that is the design thee Alfa 4C is paying homage to. As in the 4C there is no manual offered, and that is a good thing as the dual clutch is so much better and faster. To satisfy one's desire for a manual, perhaps find a used early 2000 sports car for cheap. One other thing, the Porsche718, although a great car, is a totally different class of vehicle, in my opinion not relatable or comparable to the Alpine or 4C. Nice to see Alpine bringing back a modern version of its icon of yesteryear. History is important, and these cars (Alpine and Alfa) will continue to remind us, and uphold the reputation for these famous Marques.

What I think... FInally! It took way too long for alpine to come back. From the moment I heard there'd be another roadcar from Alpine I was stoked! The old A110 is just such an iconic car, and a beautiful car too. I saw the Vision one irl in Brussels, I'd say about a year back now, next to an old one and...yeah... Just a perfect modern take on the classic one!!! I also love how small it is because the old one isn't a big car either. Nowadays a lot of cars seem to be obese but the A110 is just like it should be. Great work guys at Alpine/Renault (motorsport)!!!
