Alpine INE-W611D Stereo - FULL Review

Full Review of the Alpine INE-W611D 6.5-inch Touch Screen. Built-in Navi, DAB, HDMI, CD/DVD Player and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto!
Having not done a Stereo Review in a while we thought we would kick thing's off with Alpine's latest system to hit the market! Only released in May 2020 this unit is seen as Alpine's budget system that offers quite a lot of tech for the money! It also includes a CD/DVD Drive for those users that still like the old CD Tech :)
Installed into a 2005 Volkswagen Transporter T5 we run through a couple of the features and functions of this Alpine System.

Since this Video is 3 years old now, i wonder if the unit supports apple carplay via bluetooth in the meantine (firmware update or so)? Or if there is a newer Alpine unit supporting this, which fits in my mk4 shogun.

Di, I would like to know how long you can play dvd's for when you are parked up in the camper before your battery drains...or should you run it with the key in ignition mode? Thanks.

Hello from Switzerland, I have a question for you, I own an Alfa romeo 147 year 2001. The CD player doesn't work no more (( it's the model with the LCD screen)) and is kaput and it'sbeen broken for more than a year now, as I like playing my cds ( I'm old school 🤓) and don't mind much the radio. So I would love to have this particular Alpine model,, do you think it can be installed in my 147 Alfa and replace the old one ?? Sorry for asking you but I can find any info here in Switzerland. hi i have purchased one of these and can not update maps. i recieved no wire, sync tool or code for this. i have fat32 or pc on windows 10. have logged into navi toolbox and chose w611d, but it says have not registed. when connected to do update, do not reconised pc or fat32, and navi toolbox do not find the stereo. I cant seem to get anyone to help. Please can you.

So it already has Android Auto but it’s a Wired Only version. Alpine don’t do wireless solutions for Carplay or Android Auto as of yet.

Seams to be very slow. Especially android auto. Not usable for me...

I think to give it a fair opinion you need to have actual hands-on experience to say it's not usable. That's the fairest way personally. When we used the system it wasn't slow.

Deceiving device I have recently got this stereo installed and I can't be more frustrated. I clearly told the dealer that I needed a device with at least 2 USB, one for the mobile phone and another for the USB storage with my music. I have a big collection and this stereo is limited to 5000 archives. Th iPod can be connected but only to USB 1, the same connector used to get Android Auto. So you cannot have bough working at the same time Android Auto and iPod connected. This is a safety issue because it obliges connecting, disconnecting etc when there is a second USB that could be used. But Alpine designers seem to be very mind limited.

A fair review BUT I don’t think this is entirely the units fault? Surely this comes down to the dealer who you had install this system? If they knew your specific requirements and based their suggestion on this, perhaps they wouldn’t have fitted it. Again I don’t think we can blame the Alpine or the designers of the unit because it doesn’t meet your requirements. It’s sort of expecting a normal TV to be a Smart TV when it was never one in the first place? We’ve fitted a few of these now and for the price point / features it’s a great system when you compare it others. Personally I think the issues lie with the dealer fitting a unit that doesn’t meet what you actually wanted it to do. As said, just my perspective and playing Devil’s advocate.
